What defines a craft as "new"?
Superfluous J replied to Sharpy's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
What @Ultimate Steve said. I've literally had satellites launched from the pad with that "new" thing checked, have it be unchecked upon reaching orbit. I sadly don't have the time to do the due diligence required to file a bug report with Squad or whatever mod may be causing it to occur. But I know it's happened on satellites that did nothing more than get staged to drop empty tanks and unused engines getting from the pad to their orbit. So yeah, I cheat it and feel no shame. -
What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?
Superfluous J replied to todofwar's topic in Science & Spaceflight
...which implies it will be achievable in 30 years (said in 1955 and achieved in 1985) and simple some time in the future (we don't know the year the Mr Fusion was made in, obviously not 2015 so I always assumed he went forward further but never mentioned it) -

Not to defend Dman's friends but I suspect their age group and our age group are different age groups. Perhaps with an age group or two in between. -
[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
Superfluous J replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Naaw KAC works fine for me. I'm still on KSP 1.2 so maybe that's it but until it stops working I'm happy to use it as-is. -

Yeah but it's a REALLY BIG missile. I mean, you see that warning to stand back an entire 4 meters, right? -
[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
Superfluous J replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
They were added before KSP had the warp-here option. I was among those who asked for it, though I'm not sure if I asked in this thread or not. I was also one of the first to ask to turn it off when I accidentally clicked it for the 3rd time. The problem with making KAC smaller is that everything you cut cuts out someone's favorite alarm type. You only want maneuver nodes. Others want sunrise/sunset, others really like Ap alarms and SOI changes. If I don't care about maneuver node alarms, are you cool with them being eliminated? I would suggest you find the maneuver node alarm stuff in this code and pull it out and make a new mod out of it. I'm fairly sure many would use it. I personally wouldn't unless you added TWP integration and SOI alarms at the very least, but I won't complain if you don't. -

I'm really enjoying that multiple people have said they are having problems interacting with this thread on their phones. I'm not sure if it's ironic or merely amusing.- 66 replies

So they're performing in a socially acceptable way? About the same time a social taboo becomes acceptable. -

I think this falls into the category of "You're not having fun the way I'm having fun." If they're enjoying their phones what do you care? For all you know they're checking in with work that they were able to get out of for just this one night to go out on this date. Or they're checking the nanny cam to make sure the babysitter isn't dropping their kid. Or they're playing Farmville or checking Facebook. Again, why do you care so much? -
Are you talking planes? Do a search for "VTOL" there are hundreds of tutorials out there and dozens of good ones

Trouble with satellite network mission
Superfluous J replied to Enrico shark's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In the future, don't disable viewing of the ship type you are using in the tracking station. Makes helping you a bit confusing This is a 3-star contract. They are the hardest. I eventually got it by getting the Ap and Pe within 5 meters, and burning north at the AN (as it's retrograde) at 2% thrust using shift and ctrl to barely thrust at all. With the tools available in Stock, this is amount of precision is ridiculously tight. But I got it, so hey. -
Well I *WAS* able to turn SAS on, which I think you weren't with a tourist. I kinda guessed that with the Stayputnik on top that you needed it for control, but hey it wasn't in the contest rules so FWIW I tilted 5-10 degrees immediately, let it get up to about 50m/s, then just cranked it down to the East as much as I could (not much). By the time the solid let out I was tilted maybe 60 degrees off the horizon. I kicked it off and then ran the Reliant at about 1/3 throttle sideways, to keep going but not send my Ap into deep space. When the Ap just hit 70km, my Pe was still underground but not much.

My 2nd try (the first I flipped out because I got a bit too aggressive on 2nd stage turning, because I didn't turn the 1st stage enough before aerodynamics said "no"), got to VLKO (71ish km ap/pe) with 27.92 LF in the tank. I decided to splurge and burn my Pe down to 40 instead of 69.9 and during re-entry had 24.68 LF in the tank. 4 jpgs behind a spoiler:

Fairings lack hitbox
Superfluous J replied to vitekc45c's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I can confirm neither of these. I built a fairing at the bottom of a command pod, held up by i-beams, andreleased the fairing. It fell to the ground and sat there, on top of the ground, supported by the fairing edges. I then reloaded and instead of decoupling, released the fairing itslef. The pieces all fell to the ground and lay there as you'd expect. They maybe didn't act like they would perfectly, and spun a bit, but they quickly settled down and lay flat. -
Rendezvousing with Polar Munar Station
Superfluous J replied to Quadkiller's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There are 4 main ways to do it. Click "quote" under a post, and it'll quote that post and you can answer it. You can also edit within what you're posting, to pare it down like I did above. Click the "+" next to the word "quote", this will add the quote to a queue and you can then, when you're ready to post, click "Quote 2 posts" or whatever it says in the bottom right of your browser and it'll insert them all at once. Use your mouse to highlight some text, and the forum should bring up a "quote this" button that will immediately put just what you highlighted into a quote. I actually did this to quote you above. Sometimes it's wonky and you have to try twice, and on mobile it's almost impossible. And finally, if you type a @ followed by someone's name, a drop down will come up and you can select the person's name. You MUST actually select the name, and not just type it. This way you can reference someone without directly quoting them. Example: @Quadkiller -
I've never downloaded a craft file where I wasn't helping someone with something, or as part of my "Contractor" series where viewers submitted craft to me to fly. I have built a few things to match what I've seen on the forums though, like my Eve lifters borrow heavily from others' work.

Rendezvousing with Polar Munar Station
Superfluous J replied to Quadkiller's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
All you need to do is time your burn so you arrive at Mun when your station is orbiting parallel to Mun's orbit around Kerbin. This means you can do such a transfer twice a month. I'm on my phone now so can't really explain it better or use pictures. -
I work tonight. Don't pity me though, it's sweet OT and I'm stuffing my face tomorrow instead of shopping.

Mun to Minmus DIRECTLY?
Superfluous J replied to NeverEnoughFuel!!'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Sure I do this all the time, though you don't want them in line, you want Minmus in front of Mun, like Duna is to Kerbin on the interplanetary transfer. Pro tip: it's cheaper to go to Minmus and back from Mun than it is to reverse your Mun orbit, so if you're nailing 3 satellite contracts you may want to consider Mun-Minmus-Mun instead of Mun-Mun-Minmus. -
... Excuse me, monstah. You said crossing the streams was bad.

What's the problem? Everybody* knows you just need to bounce the dineutrons through a phased array of gravitons, reversing the flux rate at just the right time to produce the thrust. *At least Geordi LaForge does.
