Good one. It's so useless I forgot it existed. Back in the day someone told me it helped consoling rovers. I tried it and didn't really notice anything. Ooh here's another one: Missions. I actually like the idea of making them, but there's no reason to put in the effort because nobody (including me) seems all that interested in playing them.

The implied "because if you do..." is implied.

As an engineer, you have also had the situation where everybody wants you to "just finish" something you know is woefully unprepared for release, and can't "just" be finished all simple like that. You can't wait for it to be perfect. But you also can't shove it out the door unfinished.

Basically, the entire reason to get into LKO first is because LKO is the cheapest you can get into *an* orbit, and once you're in any old orbit you can plan your next steps at leisure. It's not all that much more expensive to launch to LKO and then later use a carefully planned maneuver node to transfer to Mun, than it is to launch directly from the KSC to a transfer orbit directly to Mun. And the uncertainty involved in the direct route means that the direct route may end up being *more* costly due to the need for mid-course corrections. You know the orbit you want to be in, so launching directly into it is better. If you were instead trying to rendezvous with a satellite in that orbit, it may be better to launch to LKO first so you could plan out the rest.

automatic way to flyby gilly
Superfluous J replied to antipro's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I actually detailed this in a video I did years ago. Hopefully nothing has changed in the engine since then. Here's a direct link to 18:30 where I start the Gilly flyby stuff: https://youtu.be/fu0KsI6IFa0?t=1110 Here's the whole video in a spoiler: (Note, I don't use Mechjeb so if you want help with that I can't help you. But this somewhat labor intensive process will guarantee you a flyby) -
Cyberpunk 2077 is here, what are you gonna do?
Superfluous J replied to Serenity's topic in The Lounge
I admit with undecided though I know exactly how I'll go with this. If it's on Game Pass I'll play it because it'll essentially be free. If it's not I won't. If it is obviously awesome and in my wheelhouse, maybe I'll buy it next Summer when it's $15 on sale. -
Do you have extra ground stations enabled? If not, you'll only have comms when the KSC is in direct line of sight.

Warp to next node
Superfluous J replied to eberkain's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well no, not the whole time. You had to upgrade the tracking station and/or mission control for it. And it was added relatively recently, like 1.6 or something. -
Warp to next node

Green button on the navball near the red one to cancel the maneuver. -
Also there are some contracts that seem to come back again and again, so maybe they're expiring and then getting reoffered.

As far as most useless features, I'd say the entire "advanced" tab in the VAB, other than the subassembly area. I don't think I've ever used anything in that entire area except to see what it was all about. I'd use the resource filter except there's no way (that I know of) to filter for "LF only" when looking for tanks that don't have oxidizer. And I've never, ever cared if a part was made by Rockomax, Kerbodyne, or Jeb's Junkyard. if that entire thing went away and subassemblies was somewhere permanent on the screen, I'd never miss it. Another one is the "funny" recaps on contracts. They're not just useless, they're detrimental as Contract Configurator contracts sometimes have useful information there and I miss that useful information because my brain has been so trained to not even look at it. Probably Reputation could be nixed as well. It's confusing and fluid, and so easy to get that you can basically always assume you have enough to get 3-star contracts all the time. It's not USELESS as I obviously use it. I can't not. I don't ACTIVELY use it though except when min/maxing a challenge to convert rep to funds or science.

IMO It has all the robotic stuff.

totm december 2020 What are you thankful for?
Superfluous J replied to AlamoVampire's topic in The Lounge
I have 2 off the top of my head. My SO The chance to work from home - even though the reason is bad the result has been fantastic. -
Out of curiosity, what does the micronode give you that the cubic octagonal strut would not? The Okto-2 (flat one) is the best early game probe core, and the lightest probe that can scan biomes and hold all static (non-maneuver, non-target related) directions. It's frequently the only probe core I use. The ant is okay. I may also have never used the Kodiak Naaw Dres is less useless than Eeloo. At least it has asteroids.

I think there are protections to keep resellers buying cheap and selling high(er) but I don't know how it works. But I think it keeps you from doing just that. Like, you have to pick who you buy it for at the time of purchase and no takebacks, or something like that. I've been pretty unimpressed with the sale so far. The only game I really want is Hades and I'm pretty unsure if I'll like it so 20% ain't cutting it. If it was like 80% off it'd be a no brainer.

Came here to say this. It's beaten in every single way by the Cubic Octagonal Strut.
