Where from? I like etymology of stuff like this and have never heard it before. A quick Google search came up with nothing.

Help me! (Can't get to mun)
Superfluous J replied to Mondriaan's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
@Mondriaanas this has been explained every possible way anybody can think of, we need to know specifically what you are having trouble with. -
automatically targeting
Superfluous J replied to Claas2008's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Nothing in the stock game automatically goes to anything, waypoints, targets, or anything. And it likely never will. As has been said, what you want to do is outside the scope of the game UI, even if it's inside the scope of what's possible to do in the game engine. Mods are the way to go to add the functionality to the UI/UX. -
It is November, and my signature did not lie.

Congrats! I hope your spouse is just as crazy as you are. -
You're moving 63m/s and need to move -63m/s, so the whole burn should cost you 126m/s. No problem. Also note, I never, ever, EVER look at the numbers. I look at the orbit in map mode as I'm approaching the world, and just make sure I come in so my ship's trajectory is touching the target orbit in (as close to) the same direction as the orbit is going (as possible). You can tell "which way should I go?" by the swirling going on on the orbit itself, and "which way am I going" in your target line because there is a little circle denoting when you'll leave the SOI.

I don't have a dog, but it is true that if I did and we had problems, I'd probably not look for programmatic solutions to them. (this is a fun way to say I don't know what that meant)

I started a new lightly modded career and visited Mun and Minmus. Why is that in any way significant? It's the first time I've played outside of challenges in who knows how long. Over a year I bet.
-
By all means they should switch engines. I mean, what's 5 more years' delay now?
-
Basically what Vanamonde said. Early on (Mun and Minmus, basically) I do whatever they ask me to do. If a juicy Minmus contract comes up and I haven't done much on Mun, I'll whip up a quick Minmus mission, I mean I'm going there anyway. But by the time I'm going interplanetary I've usually got tons of money and science so it's more about what I want to do than what anybody else wants. At that point I'll only take Satellite contracts for places that still need some relays and contracts specifically for the place I want to go (usually governed by orbital mechanics).
-
This is exactly the opposite of correct.
-
Yes. Multiple times. Probably in the double digits. Two of my challenges basically require it. Neither Caveman Evolved nor The No-Contract Career require a full tech tree but it's easy to do if you complete them, seeing as you end up going most everywhere in the system by the time you're done. I've added links to them to shamelessly plug them so you can see practical examples of people doing it.

Polar Orbit Relay Kommunication
Superfluous J replied to Stosh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Personally I just complete 3-5 satellite contracts around every body, and give those satellites enough relay antennas to reach Kerbin. Then, the satellites pay for themselves (or more) and I get a relay network not just for free, but for negative funds. Sure they're not perfectly set up (though you can move them after if you're persnickety) but in my experience 5 satellites gives coverage almost always, and those few times it doesn't I have a chance to think up a plan b. -
You should look into RP-0 and RP-1. I don't know much about them but from what I read, they are the way to play if you want the most realism.
-
Because https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mythical_Man-Month I have never, ever seen proof of that.

But they want to make more than $120 from total sales, surely.

Kerbal Space Program 2 to be released [at unspecified date in 2022]
Superfluous J replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2020
It's actually still 2020 but KSP2is still scheduled to release in Fall of 2021 unless someone posts information to the contrary. That's not to say it'll actually RELEASE in Fall of 2021. There's just no concrete news otherwise. -
totm november 2020 Threads of the month: November 2020
Superfluous J replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in Threads of the Month
I believe they're thanking you for participating, not "being right" -
What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)
Superfluous J replied to a topic in The Lounge
I've been all-in for the past month or so on Stone Story RPG. It's got an amazing twist on the idle RPG genre in that you have a full* programming language to tell your guy what to do** and you really need to watch him and the bad guys so you can correctly code for all the possibilities. In addition to just the general game, the developer is actively adding "events" that encourage you to mix up your otherwise working code to adapt to the changing environment to gain the bonus goodies. Oh and it's entirely ascii based and is some of the best animated ascii art I've ever encountered. *The programming language is not entirely full. But it's pretty good and continually getting more features. **Actually, what to equip. The character decides what to do based on that so you're more guiding him than telling him what to do. -
Contract Won't Complete
Superfluous J replied to Popestar's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I always meet asteroids at Pe, then slow them down just enough to not go anywhere, and then either burn way out at Ap or get a Mun encounter (or both) to do the actual moving around. Either of the strategies (far out to tweak Pe right away or accept Pe for the first pass and fix it later) works, and I don't think - properly executed - either is much better than the other in general. But if you're meeting at Pe and have the time, it seems launching directly East is better in a lot of cases than (what I've always done and just assume was best), launching into the correct orbit from KSC by skewing your launch direction. Granted, polar orbits don't cost as much extra as retrograde orbits, and skewed orbits in different directions cost different amounts, but I'm at least going to look into it next time. -
It's sorted by mass. At least, in my VAB it is because I sort by mass and can't find anything if it's not sorted by mass. If they aren't already addressing this in KSP2, then the game is going to suck no matter how many suggestions we make. Something as fundamentally fixable as this should have been in the design spec from the start.

Contract Won't Complete
Superfluous J replied to Popestar's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
That's pretty interesting, actually. I wonder what other things would benefit from this idea. Asteroid encounters are one, if their Pe is near the equator it's probably better to do a "normal" launch, get your Ap way out as far as is practical, then do the orbit adjusting way out there.
