What is the most HORRIBLE way one of your kerbals died
StrandedonEarth replied to 322997am's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just lost a 3-star 'geer because he went OIT (Orbit Into Terrain). Specifically, he orbited into a mountainside on Gilly, while I wasn't looking. He just wasn't there in very low Gilly orbit anymore. The AstroComplex said he was KIA. I knew I should have sent him down to mine the surface sooner, but I had a flotilla of probes out at Jool to manage. -
Shoot for the Mun, because even if you miss you'll reach the stars!

I wonder if my kids would play it more if it was on their XB1. They've dabbled a little on the PC but haven't really gone far with it. Maybe the new tutorials will help.

Any plans for stock larger SRB's?
StrandedonEarth replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
SRBs burn from the center to the edge. The shape of the 'chamber' in the center determines the thrust curve. And yes, the burn rate depends on the propellant formula . -

What should the first Mars City/Colony be called?
StrandedonEarth replied to Fr8monkey's topic in The Lounge
First Base? Gallala? Valhalla? "We Made It"? -

That's actually an impressive number even by todays standards. Are you sure it wasn't 5mpg? We had an original "Pong" console. Later we had a Colecovision (Zaxxon, Ladybug, QBert), while my cousin had an Atari 2600. I was introduced to the Apple IIe at school, with such wonderful games as "Choplifter" and "Wizardy." When my friend got an NES, it was sports games: "Blades of Steel," "Tecmo Bowl," and "SNK Baseball," as well as "Link" and "Ultima." Then came the Sega Genesis console, and the "NHL 94" and up series of games. There was also a series of chopper warfare games (Desert Strike, Urban Strike, Jungle Strike) which I quite enjoyed, and I wish there was a modern version. There was also a golf game that I can't remember the name of, but we'd play "Howie Meeker Golf" (He was a Canadian hockey broadcast analyst, who liked to use the 'Telestrator') After every hole, we'd "Stop it right there!" (save it) and after a bad shot it'd be ""k, now, back it up" (load save) That way we could get some wicked scores going. Like quicksaves in KSP

dock for boats
StrandedonEarth replied to volcanic_wolf's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yeah, I guess I see your point. How about we put it in a perfectly kerbal position: at the end of the runway! You better get that bird airborne (or stopped if you just got it on the ground) or there's gonna be some fireworks! -
dock for boats
StrandedonEarth replied to volcanic_wolf's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I haven't played with waterborne vehicles, and I don't use aircraft very often. That said, I can see how a drydock/shipyard facility would be useful, as well as a slipway or harbour to launch watercraft from (with an animation of a kerbal breaking a bottle of shampagne over the bow, possibly sinking it!). On Airfield Island, of course Didn't the aircraft parts orginally start out as a mod? Perhaps a modder can make this work? -
Where are my Canadian brethren and how do you use KSP
StrandedonEarth replied to DoctorDavinci's topic in The Lounge
Wet Coast here. I'm not sure what you mean by "How do you use KSP?" I, uh, build rockets and launch stuff to the farthest reaches of the Kerbol system (I haven't gone RSS/RO yet) and then try to land stuff. I may even try to return Kerbals back to their home! I haven't been able to interest my friends in this fantastic simulgame yet. Edit: I mostly build rockets and stations, or land all-in-one bases. I don't have the patience to do much with aircraft or rovers, although I can successfully build and use them if needed. -
[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
StrandedonEarth replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Awesome, Thanks for the update, KAC makes things so much easier. Any idea if/when you'll be able to stockify it? -
"Would you, could you, on a barge? Would you, could you, with a rocket this large? "I do not like three engine slams, I do not like them, slammed I am. I do not like it on a ship, as it makes my airframe drip"
-
Likewise, that's why I only posted those three words, cuz that's all I had...
-
It sounds good in theory, but also remember that even at Mach 3 / 2000mph, you're still a lot of dV away from orbital velocity @ 17,500mph
-
"...slammed I am!" And off to Jeb's Junkyard and SpaceCraft Parts it goes!

Kerbal Space Program patch 1.1.3 is now available!
StrandedonEarth commented on KasperVld's article in Developer Articles
Wait... what? Apparently Squad finally learned that Telus is the name of the major telephone/internet (and now cable TV) provider in BC and Alberta. No more exploding landing legs, yay! And I might finally possibly maybe see the Magic Boulder (or not)! -

I haven't used sepratrons on Kickbacks for a long time. Place the decoupler high, using the gizmo to slide the SRB down so the nozzles are beside or below the main engines. Place the struts low. The decouplers will kick the top of the Kickback away, while the bottom will already be past the main engines
