Technical term for diving to the AP?
StrandedonEarth replied to paracusia's topic in Science & Spaceflight
No problemo -
I read that for English class, back in Grade 8 or 9. Around 30+ years ago. I should go find a copy

Stephen King, you say? Gotta read The Stand. Edit: And have you read The Green Mile? Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, and Michael Flynn collaborated on a fun little salute to fandom, Fallen Angels Some may differ, but I enjoyed The DragonRiders of Pern series by Anne McAffrey (don't bother with the later ones written or co-written by her son Todd), as well as her "Talent" series (especially the first 3, the Pegasus trilogy) For an enjoyable taste of of intrigue and warfare in Ancient Egypt, I highly recommend River God, Warlock, and The Quest by Wilbur Smith. I was somehow disappointed by Desert God (written fourth, but chronologically second), and I'm not really sure why.

What was the hardest thing you've done in KSP?
StrandedonEarth replied to RandomUser's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Trying to eject a 3600 ton asteroid from the Kerbol system. Before ISRU. I gave up after sending a phalanx or two of spearships out to it. If I had known about the TCA mod back then (if it even existed then) I just might have been able to get it moving where I wanted it to go. -
It's rather hard to balance science, IMO. If you simply crank up the difficulty / crank down the science return sliders, it just becomes too grindy. I think it would be better to chop the science returns after the first biome or two on a body (except maybe Kerbin itself, since the returns there are tiny anyways); this would encourage going interplanetary, and probably require interplanetary to complete the tree. I certainly couldn't be bothered to land on every biome on the Mun yet again, after a few careers with completed tech trees.

And yet it's true, I didn't realize that either. http://www.cpu-world.com/info/Intel/Intel_Core_i7_Mobile.html

Sledge-o-matic will take care of that!

I don't know how those compare, but in the end it depends how many instructions per second, or flops, the chip can crank out. The best way to tell that is to find some benchmark scores, but again, those can only give good comparisons if processor is the only variable. Things like motherboard, RAM, and graphics also affect benchmark scores, and some different benchmarks highlight the different strengths of different chips. I hear AMD chips are lousy for gaming but good if you want to do a lot of video processing.

Nice, what was the mass and part count on the pad? Today, I had to retrieve Bob from the orbiting MinLab due to a medical emergency. I forgot to put any solar panels on the ship I launched, but it had plenty of battery capacity, and was able to recharge when it docked to the station. It also ventured down to the MinBase to get some crew experience, and Bill KAS'd some batteries over to charge it up. With careful battery management, I was also able to do a quick peek into kerbolar orbit before returining to Kerbin to finish the training run

I never really thought of acronymizing my ship names, but this thread inspired me. I noticed I already some easily acronymed ships, the MuST - Mun Surface Taxi - and the MiST - Minmus Surface Taxi. Then I built the DOLT - Duna Orbiter Lander Tandem

1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2...where/ how to get?
StrandedonEarth replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I usually make a new folder to extract the zip into, then you can just copy your save folder (funds, sci, and rep are written into the .sfs file) directly over. In my C: drive I have folders for "KSP 90," "KSP 104," "KSP 105," and "KSP 1_1." Backed up on my external drive I have such folders as "KSP 235," "KSP 24," and "KSP 25." This way, if there's a (mod) part the new version doesn't like, you can go into the old version and remove it. -
Probably not much to see in the dark, and then the glare from the rocket engine. Which begs the question, if it's a GTO flight, then why did they need to launch in the middle of the night?

WOOOOOOHOOOOO Now that's a great thing to wake up to! Hey look, they have nav blinkers on the legs! They'll just have to start getting those birds back in the air!

1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2...where/ how to get?
StrandedonEarth replied to strider3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The patcher seemed to work to go from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1. After using it to patch to 1.1.2, CKAN thought it was looking at 1.0.5 Just go to the store, and click on "Download" where it says you bought KSP. Then download the version you want. Don't bother with the installer, it works about as well as the patcher. Unzip it to the folder of your choice, then copy over any save folders you want from the "saves" folder, as well as any mods from the "gamedata" folder (warning, they may not work properly with the new version, you may need to download the latest version of the mod)). I, along with many others, like to use CKAN to manage mods, it makes it so much easier. -
Red Dragon confirmed!!
StrandedonEarth replied to MajorLeaugeRocketScience's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Pure aluminum and it's alloys (I imagine there are probably exceptions) quickly forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide when exposed to air, Scratch it, and the exposed aluminum oxidizes and the layer is restored. That's why aluminum is so corrosion resistant. The same principle applies to the chromium used in stainless steel. Mercury, however, will mess up that process.- 453 replies
