Same date as Starship, maybe trying to take a bit of the publicity

Maybe.  New Glenn going up at 0 dark thirty and IFT-7 in the evening around 16 hours later, so big gap in between.  NG will be 9th for MST and west coast (if I’m temporally squinting correctly)

Seriously, they're flying a mass simulator. Why the first flight at OMG-o'clock?

Maybe they want it to show less if something goes wrong? Explosion would be big either way, but at night, Poof! then nothing, vs Poof! then debris raining down?

Could be weather at launch and landing barge.  Maybe it’s PR.  Night launches are so pretty.  And if something goes wrong fading to black will be easier?

It is weird how many new rockets have been going up in the middle of the night. I’d think especially for a maiden flight they’d want daylight for better video data, if the payload doesn’t demand elsewise. SLS, Vulcan, now Nooglin….

SLS had launch window constraints for the Moon given that it's a piece of junk, and can't get there with a circular parking orbit.

Plus, if you're going to the Moon, you have to go at night when it comes out. ;)

Can confirm this, moon was out when I was there. Unrelated Orion under Orion.

Moon was further over to the left of this image.

Dumb theory, but maybe Bezos wants to see the launch and has other things going on during the day.

There's talk about maybe sending their payload cislunar (hence window timing)?

That would be impressive... but where does it go after?

Elon's car isn't likely to crash into someone's house, given it's in a solar orbit.

Tesla Roadster - Live Orbital Position

Cislunar keeps it in the neighborhood, doesn't it?

If they aim for an moon flyby they can either send it into deep space with an moon slingshot: classic KSP moon satellite mission where you forget to add solar panels.
Or an free return trajectory where it impact some planned place on earth, might even an moon impact.

All is nice to show you can control second stage for days I assume.

Sunday 1am means Saturday 10pm my time. While I usually want to be asleep by then, it’s a Saturday so I don’t have to be. Hopefully they can launch at the start of the window; because I may not be able to stay awake for the whole window

Take a nap prior.  Steep yourself in the mysterious arcane arts of the elderly and toddlers for the win!

The shiny bits are still just stainless steel, right? Interesting that they would show it in bronze instead of the conventional silver.

No, that is their composite TPS I think.
