He wants to finish his own personal drive-about before putting up a challenge. But it did make me look up the original Elcano and discover this tidbit from @Fengist: Quote Advice to explorers I'm still testing a theory but, I highly suspect that issues I've had with ground based vehicles while doing extended, multi-save and restore missions are caused by quicksaving while the vehicle is in motion. On two missions I've had hugely misaligned parts. Gravitational and motion stresses on ground-based vehicles are a LOT more than spacecraft. If you quicksave while a part is misaligned due to these stresses and then reload, you just doomed your vessel to a corrupt save. Again, it's a theory I'm testing but it sure sounds plausible. Something is weird, though in my case it had the opposite effect. In the Dessert Derby I had a crash. You can see my wrecked and bent rover. When I reloaded the quicksave this morning (I was going to let the crew out for a walk and pick them up later) my Rover was no longer bent. The engine was still gone rendering it unusable, but the suspension had repaired itself. Open screenshot with MS Paint Did I say boring ? ? ? I went by a crater that sucked me in like a whirlpool. The car was going faster and faster... I can't steer at that speed, the buggy can roll over, and I'm not taking that risk. New route, funny you can't see the crater on the map. Hide contents It's been a while since I played KSP (currently going through my mods and shifting as many as possible to CKAN from JSGME), but AFAIK in stock joints will stretch but completely elastically. They don't have a plastic phase where some deformation becomes permanent. Unless you installed a deformation mod like Kerbal Krash System. It's not yet had a 1.4.x release. If you have KKS, then it could be interacting in weird ways. If you don't, I'm stumped. It almost looks like on crashing the part was still attached but shifted to a different angle WRT the centre body, then on reload it's back to its original position. 2 hours ago, Triop said: Did I say boring ? ? ? It was hard to see in just one screenshot in the dark, but I imagine the Bridge route was too perilous, even without a Bridgekeeper. Looks like a good and shorter route.
