kerbiloid
Another robot has escaped from this planet. P.S. I hope it didn't crush somebody on landing. We don't need problems with Martians. Edited February 18, 2021 by kerbiloid
RyanRising
I guess I should know it would’ve been like that, it was the same with Curiosity, but wow that was tense.

He’s an excellent PR person; I’ve gotten likes and replies from him, but never a retweet. You deserve it though, good job on the song.! tater
The gopro (whatever brand of "ruggedized commercial camera" they used) footage possibly being sent home tonight will be... nothing short of epic.

sevenperforce
I stepped in with the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation to answer a question someone asked Tory. The question: The answer: Pretty sure my math is right but let me know if you have corrections. Edited February 19, 2021 by sevenperforce I misspelled Tsiolkovsky

Um... Doesn't Mars have weather? ... https://youtu.be/zb94PxX_q38 They're gonna leave some ultra light flying craft sitting on the ground for 30 days? Ok, yeah. Kickass landing aside - that's definitely NASA. =/ Edited February 19, 2021 by JoeSchmuckatelli

They are not deploying the helicopter tomorrow - they need to spend several weeks making sure the rover is ready to move and observe, and drive to a suitable location. It does have seasons, and the ice and frozen CO2 shrink and expand on the polar caps. Edited February 19, 2021 by mikegarrison

Yeah I must have misunderstood something in the stream. 39 minutes ago, JoeSchmuckatelli said: Um... Doesn't Mars have weather? Weather is generally a problem because dust storms can cover solar panels, but the dynamic pressure from wind is basically negligible due to the low atmospheric density. Okay - but when I watched 'The Martian' they made weather on Mars look exciting.

Andy Weir (the author) admitted that this was the most deliberately inaccurate thing in the book. For thematic purposes he wanted the initial crisis to be caused by Mars, rather than human error, and the only one he could come up with was a storm. He knew that the Martian atmosphere is so thin that storms have very little force (even though they have very high wind speed), but for plot purposes he just ignored that.
