So, lets talk about clouds...

One thing nobody seemed to notice was the fact that the clouds are dynamic. They change shape, get smaller and larger, so the "pointy" bits may appear for 5 seconds and be gone (while the effect is very much exaggerated by some).

It's noticed, but the points dont go away they shrink and grow.  It's probably a basic noise pattern with a time dependent amplitude based on a trig function like:

cos(x,y,t)[noise function made of overlapping cosines in different directions]

very simple and slapped together...

Cloud opacity/transparency also seems directly correlated with height (transparent towards bottom opaque towards top) which also does not resemble clouds as clouds grow transparent toward their edges in all dimensions

Well  in a static show you can never tell if something is truly volumetric.  I can paint with oils  far more realsitic clouds than that and they are not volumetric at all :P One needs to see a video to  judge it.

this picture is from a video:

They probably haven't hooked the clouds to a 3d noise texture, and are just using a 2d one for now (maybe unity being fussy? curvature of the planet shenanigans? who knows). I wouldn't worry about its shape shader-wise, its a pretty simple change.

Thats along the lines of what I figured too. What they look like now looks like it took 5 min to put together and as I said before, perhaps they're sandbagging, which would be funny and I hope they get some good laughs

I found the volumetric cloud!

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

Edit: I'm going to go ahead and say, that's not a cloud. Well, it is, but it's an explosive cloud and not an atmospheric cloud, aka, an explosion effect. It's not volumetric, it's pre-rendered.

What was that about the clouds being bad?

To be fair, this is a recent showing of the cloud system. The earlier showings were confirmed to be months old. Like October, November, possibly early December. This one might be a January build, but I doubt it since everything else has been months old. If I had to guess, the eve descent is early to mid December.

Still needs misty wind and atmospheric light scattering effects and a few true volumetric cloud layers.

It also needs to be a diabloesquemmoGrandstrategymassivelymultiplayerlootboxRPGSpore as well with a DETAILED history of every single interaction every kerbal has ever had over billions of years and a peer reviewed paper on kerbal evolution!1!!!

These are all things Ksp2 totally needs and I will uninstall and write a VISCIOUS criticism on the most important forum of discussion in human history, reddit if none of this is included

Considering how many comments are along the lines of "KSP doesn't need graphics we can play it in the Terminal", I don't think it's a "stupid" conversation at all. Some of us want a visually impressive and modern game that's immersive for exploration. I personally really want to experience quality alien weather. What's "stupid" about that?

You want perfection, but perfection doesn't exist in gaming. The best you're going to get is good enough. You'll have to learn that.

The perfect game, piece of art or music will never be released because it will never be finished. It will have to be good enough to release it. (That's the reason why Tool has released so few albums compared to other bands of the same age.)

I've already taken the position of "adding some salt or sugar" to the media that Intercept releases. I know what they are showing may be better or worse after they release. What you're doing is setting yourself up for disappointment.

@mcwaffles2003 look up "altocumulus" clouds. I've flown above altocumulus as they are forming. They did look very similar to that. The only problem with the image Intercept shared is that type of cloud formation should be over an area of tens of miles, not a few miles. But as you wish...

HOLY CRAP

idk about you, but that's one hell of an alien landscape!

I found a nice volumetric cloud hiding in 'plane' sight. But i still feel like the bottom edges are too transparent and could be more defined like the top edges. And I hope there will be more cloud types and layers.

Also, first I hear complaints about flat bottoms, now that upclose picture reveals they're not flat, it also is a problem. Make up your mind.

I don't understand what you mean. All clouds have a transparency plane applied progressively towards the bottom and it makes them look flat.. like they're a height map layer. The top part looks good on some clouds and it's not always excessively transparent. But some of them also look like mountains. It's obvious to see.
