Yay! I made an official thread </3

I just went to this thread to say I got banned from chat because I said "I just came" (someone was mean when telling me something I asked that had been answered before) when I meant that I just came back to the stream

um release time has been said to be after marathon.

(check sig, read video comments)

Not official so don't take it as a fact, but i do believe it will be very soon rather than later.

Well, HOCgaming has a review vid out in which the release time is announced as being "at the end of the KSP ARM stream,". So it looks official to me.

Head to youtube asap as this vid may have been released early and could be pulled by squad at any moment.

The media team vids are saying that it's basically out now. Whether that means "out" for everyone or just testers I don't know. I'm not at home so won't bother downloading until tomorrow.

Wouldn't it be great if you could get science from Claw-ing one and doing materials/goo reports and surface samples?

Funnily enough, YES WE CAN! Serious! IIRC, HarvestR said we could go to different asteroids, and each one would have it's own pool of science, and that you would get more science from doing the same thing to the same asteroid if it was somewhere else than in the first place!

EDIT:

I checked the download on the website Sandworm, and it still reads 0.23.0, not the supposed 0.23.10 or 0.23.5 that the ARM/NASA update will be. The testers and some youtubers have it such as HOCgaming, but not publicly available. Yet.

Youtubers have been granted early access and such before - and it is Squad, not that other company that shall not be named for it may be forgotten sooner than later and vanish from the gaming world! (Let me dream ...)

I cannot wait for modders coming up with ways to create rare minerals to appear on asteroids at random: Track ten, land on six, finally find that unobtainium needed to fuel/built/power something weird! :)

Pleborian's vid is using v0.23.0.436

HOCgamings vid is from v0.23.0.432

OperationDX is calling it v0.23.5, but I cannot see the title screen in his vid.

These inconstant numbers suggest that they have had access for at least a couple days. That also meshes with Youtube's policies regarding monetized vids. So expect some last minute changes between the vids and the released version. (Anyone got word on a the linux version? Do any of the media team test on Linux?)

There were issues with the last media release. At least one vid was released early by a member of the media team. Squad screamed, not a DMCA takedown per se, but a complaint to the youtuber who then disabled public access to the vid. It does happen.

Where did you get that? In fact, HOCgaming said the exact opposite.

Yargnit mentioned in his stream that Claw will not grab things on rails (planets and moons), or flagged as landed.

But maybe i've misheard things. Can someone ask about it one of the streamers?

So let's do some summary...

New parts:

- Three 3.75m fuel tanks, roughly the same size and capacity as KW or NP 3.75m tanks

- 3.75m Engine #1: roughly based on F1, 2500 kN, Isp 280-380 (or 380-280, depends on source)

- 3.75m Engine #2: based on RS-25 SLS cluster, 3200(?) kN, Isp ??? (sorry, didn't catch it). Doesn't have an attachment node on the bottom

- Long 1.25m SRBs, based on Space Shuttle\SLS SRBs, 2000(?) kN

- 2.5m LRBs, based on SLS boosters, ??? kN, you can add a fuel tank on top

- 3.75m-2.5m adapter

- 3.75m decoupler

- Launch escape system - 1.25m for Mk2 capsule, burns for a very short time

- Advanced grabbing device aka The Claw - 1.25m part, can connect to anything except planets, has a "Free Pivot" option so you can rotate your tug to line it up with CoM

Asteroids:

- Appear as "?" marks around Kerbin in Tracking station, they have "Signal strength" meter which is basically a countdown until despawn

- Select it and turn on tracking (new button), and they won't despawn

- There is 5 sizes, A being the smallest (few tons) and E being the biggest (3000+ tons)

- Intercepting them is hard, you need good timing and highly inclined launch

- You cannot switch to them until you flew to them

- Once you grabbed them with the claw, you can deliver them to any place you desire (make a magic boulder, for example)

- They doesn't have any special reentry or impact effects, as seen on Pleborian's video

Other things:

- You can timewarp at space center and tracking station

- You can delete your maneuver node using small "X" button at delta-v counter

- Use two blue buttons at maneuver node planner to advance time for your node (one orbit per click)

- Looks like part connections are stiffened (not so good as KJR, but better than now)

- You can tweak lights' color (R,G,B) in VAB\SPH

- Looks like engine had been updated, so expect a better performance (some mods might require updating, though)

- You can choose to display your flag on some parts (Mk2 pod confirmed)

Also in Pleborian's video he got a pretty circular orbit and there was NO shakieness to the AN/PN markers at all. Harv mentioned that as well. Hopefully this means we can actually place maneuver nodes on all parts of the orbits now too :)

If this is true it might save me hours of cussing at my screen trying to get a maneuver setup, only to be told it is a full orbit away  .

Is there any reason why people shoudl bother docking now, when they can just attach ship to ship with claw? Does using claw on ship have some downsides?

Lolbster said that docking ports have stiffer connections than the claw.
