Try using the inflatable heat shield, maybe reentry heating was redid for overheating everything not protected.

This new reaction wheel control is bringing the level of reality back.  Now reaction wheels can be set up do nothing on pilot control.  So a reaction wheel set to SAS only will not rotate the vessel but just dampen the jitters.

Alternatively if the reaction wheel is set to pilot only then when SAS is enabled during flight the reaction wheel does nothing until pilot command.

I used to toggle the torque and use only engine thrust vector to rotate which also saved on the battery power usage.

115 part rover next to 691 part ship, and i got 20 FPS :D
Rocket is from older KSP and is not fully compatible so may lower the framereate but the same situation in 1.0.5 gave me 6 FPS so huuugeeeee optimalization was done :)
Squad, you did something amazing :)

That's not a hype rocket. THIS is a hype rocket (infinite fuel cheat, though - using it to test a bug, found another 2 bugs while looking for that one. lol):

If you did buy it before the steam release, you can transfer to steam.  There should be a button next to the download button in the store.  Be aware, though, that this is one way and irreversible.

A quick couple of things Ive found in the pre-release..

Aircraft Landing Gear - have suspension (bouncy!) and are steerable..

The Bi-couplers and Tri-couplers connect properly on all nodes now (1.25 parts tested) - no more single node connection when you want all 3 connected!

(  -<=>-  configuration works for example )

Hype on!

Yep, without docking ports, At least on the 1.25m parts. Built a low tech probe controlled orbital pickup using a pair of tri couplers and the 2 kerbal crew compartments (so 6 kerbals), no issues holding together through a somewhat aggressive re-entry.....

Are you really sure? Have you tried setting up a complicated fuel flow relying on that and seeing what happens? Because either squad redid the whole logic behind how the craft files work, or this really shouldn't work due to the "parent"/"child" routine... a part can't connect to more than one part when you place it, because then it would have more than one "parent", and the only thing it can have more than one now is "children" parts. Much more likely that your rocket was just structurally sound enough that you didn't notice one of the nodes not connecting, I think.

 

Rune. Something that big would have been announced, too.
