    Exactly for cooling. A hydrogen engine uses it to make the coolng system lighter, and thus must use the hydrogen cooling non-stop while it works. Then it utilizes it as a fuel. The kerosene is added at the very beginning to increase the thrust, then it's switched off, so the engine becomes hydrolox.
