  1. Yeah, Kraken is probably the problem here. I think the sheer weight of the ballast tanks may be causing the Kraken (the weight is increased by over 500 tons), or it may be a really high buoyancy part that causes them. I guess I can always release a theoretically dive capable craft if I can't solve these problems, but I would rather not.
  2. August 12, 1940, off the coast of KSC, a strange object protrudes from the otherwise calm sea... Upon further inspection, it appears to be a U-boat under attack by the Kraken! One hundred bitts. One hundred, and it barely reaches periscope depth. Once the main deck is submerged, the concentration of bitts in the bow and stern start to violently convulse, leading to the destruction of the boat unless unbreakable joints is turned on. Anyone know what's going on here?
  3. You know you need help when a PBY can out-turn your fighter Also, not really a significant milestone, but I got the Stuka. The Jericho sirens, they are glorious. I've found myself accelerating to the max sometimes just to hear the sirens go off.
  4. Wait, my input? It's your craft, you can release it however you like. I would prefer the radar antennas if you're going for the night fighter version, but if you would rather do the fighter bomber variant, don't let my opinions stop you! EDIT: There is one small thing I noticed; the Bf-110 only carried two crew members, but yours has three. The night fighter variants did have three, so if you're releasing it as that, keep the third seat, but if not, it should probably be removed.
  5. Yeah, that. Well, we were watching a reenactment of a Civil War battle, with rifled muskets and smoothbore cannons, and then suddenly this modern, high tech attack helicopter flies overhead and reminds us all that we are in 2015, not 1865. I don't normally see Apaches because the airspace over where I live is for Blackhawks. There is a Blackhawk corridor that runs right over my house, and an OH-58D corridor within sight of it, so I see those often, but Chinooks and Apaches are rare. Maybe I ought to start a thread to discuss helicopters if so many people want to hear my stories...
  6. Yeah, the antennas allowed the fighter to find enemy bombers in the dark, move into position, and shoot them down. They seem to be pretty imperative for a WWII night fighter. A sort of interesting thing happened today. I went to an American Civil War reenactment (based on a pitifully tiny skirmish in 1865, but somehow became a big festival with canon and cavalry and stuff). Right after the battle ended and the Union soldiers retreated from the field, an AH-64 Apache helicopter flew overheard in the direction of the Union troops, so I started joking about how the Apache was really a secret Confederate weapon that was the main reason for their many victories in the early part of the war. What a way to ruin the mood. But hey, I got to see an Apache flyby, which isn't normal, even for me.
  7. I'm going to sue Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd for lying to me about all the stuff we're supposed to have in the future. Gonna win me so much money, I'll be able to invent my own hoverboard!! Take that Hollywood!!!
  8. Yes, this is a good idea. I remember my first few craft hardly got any feedback, because they left the front page so quickly. Of course, my U-boat got stickied, but that can't happen to everyone.
  9. I flew in a Huey. They made me sit in the seat in front of the transmission well because I guess they thought it was too dangerous to let anyone under 18 sit near the doors. I have, in fact, flown several helicopter simulators used by the Army for training. Living near the largest helicopter base in the world has many perks. Alright, back to the topic, if you want to talk about my adventures with army helicopters, you can PM me.
  10. The Gilly landing is only a small part of a much larger Eve mission. I've designed a crew habitat ship to carry four Kerbals to Eve. I'm still not sure what all I can do once I get to Eve. A crewed landing on Eve is out of the question completely, but I think I could possibly fly a small plane into Eve's upper atmosphere a few times. I could also drop probes into Eve's atmosphere and say that they're monitored by the orbiting crew or something. I'm still looking for things I could do at Eve/Gilly, the mission still seems pretty sparse.
  11. It's beautiful!! Too bad I don't live in Louisiana. At least we still have our own air expo over here with Vietnam era helicopters. I bet you can't say you've flown in a Huey that flew combat missions in the Nam! Cant wait for the Bf-110, I'n interested to see what you used for the radar equipment.
  12. The Bf-110 was most successful as a night fighter, so I would push for that. I found out that it can carry an external payload of up to 1,100 pounds.
  13. I have been using the lander's RCS as nesting jets, but in Gilly's gravity the lander is so light that the slightest bump can send it flying. It's even a little dangerous to climb down the ladder for EVA. Constructing the surface experiment is quite annoying as well. Kerbals can't actually walk on Gilly without flying several meters above the ground each time, so I find myself flying around with the jet pack between the lander and the surface experiment site. Gilly = Much pain. Perhaps I should have chosen a larger planet, like Moho or Dres...
  14. But Brickmania sells their sets for outrageous prices! I once paid over a hundred dollars for a UH-1 Iroquois helicopter set, something that would have only been about $30 under Lego.
  15. If you add inflatable habitats to Contares I will download your mod and use it forever
  16. A week or so ago i has this wonderful plan to build my own submarine out of trash cans and PVC pipes. I have sketches of what it would look like and everything. Unfortunately, a few days later, I realized that I lacked the money to build it, so I'm not really sure whether I'll be able to finish it or not.
  17. Although I've played KSP for several years, I've never done a crewed mission to another planet. I think it's time to change that, so I started testing a lander for a mission to Gilly: It has small KIS boxes in the sides that contain spots for a science station to be constructed during an EVA. Unfortunately, Gilly's pathetic gravity doesn't hold the lander down very well, so I want to add some harpoon cables. I started working on something with KAS cables and harpoons, but I don't know how to get them to stick to the ground.
  18. After much procrastination, the Economy Class U-Boat is out. This version only has 302 parts, making it easier to run, and sits somewhat lower in the water to look more like a real U-Boat. Download Here
  19. People are really suggesting the Prop-M? But how? How would he make it move, it uses little paddle things instead of wheels! Besides, it's going to be ridiculously small, so small that it really wouldn't be worth using. Imagine the pain that comes with trying to zoom in close enough to interact with the part, imagine the pain that would come with trying to make a new form of movement that has never before been attempted in KSP. It would be cool to see Prop-M, but I highly doubt that it can be done.
  20. I suppose you could always switch off the main fuel tanks in the plane, which would cause the drop tanks to be emptied first, but you would have to remember to switch them back on shortly before dropping the tanks. This wouldn't be practical for a jet with lots of fuel tanks, but if you only have one or two tanks (most good plane designers can get by with one or two anyway), it ought to be a workable solution. For placement, you have a couple of different options. Under the wings, under the fuselage, or on the wing tips are the three most obvious. The problem that may arise with placing them on the wing tips is getting the fuel to flow correctly.
  21. This thread is life, it lets people give previews to their projects, creating hype for the release, gaining the creator more rep. It's all about the marketing.
