Any ideas on how much of the flight model is 'drone-like' vs 'robot-like'? (Drone = Remote Control, Robot = Self Control). I'm guessing that Falcon stages land themselves - but I've never read an article on 'how they do it'. I mean, I know they can program a whole lot ahead of time, but the ship has to have a certain amount of autonomy given the speeds it travels and need for near-instantaneous adjustments. Anyone seen published work on this? -
Hey - speaking of spirits (or at least it's cousin)... what is the 'scene' in China these days with regard to whiskey? I know that Japan has a history of brewing Sake which led into an interest in whiskey, but I'm unfamiliar with Chinese distillates. Does China have a similar 'home brew' hard alcohol? Do folks there have a taste for Scotch, or Bourbon or Irish whiskeys? (oh - and not just as something you mix with Coke - but as something enjoyed for itself, neat or on the rocks; people who mix drinks are worth pitying.)

The James Webb Space Telescope and stuff
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Streetwind's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This image of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field was taken by the Near-Infrared Camera on NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. The Webb image observes the field at depths comparable to Hubble – revealing galaxies of similar faintness – in just one-tenth as much observing time. It includes 1.8-micron light shown in blue, 2.1-micron light shown in green, 4.3-micron light shown in yellow, 4.6-micron light shown in orange, and 4.8-micron light shown in red (filters F182M, F210M, F430M, F460M, and F480M). We proposed to image the Ultra Deep Field using some of Webb’s NIRCam’s medium-band image filters, which allowed us to take images of spectral features more accurately than we could with broadband filters because medium-band filters span a shorter wavelength range. This gives us more sensitivity in measuring colors, which helps us understand the history of star formation and ionization properties of galaxies during the first billion years of the universe, like in the Reionization Era. Measuring the energy that galaxies produced in that time will help us understand how galaxies reionized the universe, reverting it from being neutral gas to once again being an ionized plasma like it was after the big bang. That's cool! I hope they're doing the high fidelity projection that artists are doing to make buildings dance. https://doubletakeprojections.com/services/building-projections/ -
Welllllllllll... There are exceptions. In HS some friends and I drove past a rival HS party that was being broken up by the cops. Half hour later, everyone is gone and the street is quiet. Someone hopped the fence and stole the keg. Still had beer in it. That someone didn't steal the cups. So, Jenius us, we made do. Drank beer out of empty Doritos bags!

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

Certainly an odd design choice ‐ I'd think you would want anything that might ricochet to be directed up and away from the hull! Cool looking turret, tho. -
You guys missed my speculation about Texas! I know folks there who privately own and fly Cobra attack helicopters and there's several places where you can drive and shoot various generations of tanks for fun. Also the guy who paid SX for the orbital flight appears to own RU military jets. Point being that America is a funny place where the rich can enjoy odd pastimes... and Texas is friendly to such toys! Specific to @kerbiloid‐ We'd have already gotten anything important while it was in Poland, just like RU and CN got to look at the SF helo we left behind in Pakistan (th games Nations play...) It's just an odd thing to leave unattended in a truck stop and clearly someone climbed all over it, busted it open and took pictures while it was there. (Had it been something of interest to the military, a couple of armed fellas would have been sleeping on it! So to me it is clearly civilian owned... even if the speculation is that it's headed to Maryland. Which I might point out has its own ports, so going through Louisiana is the long way!)

There is a Privately Owned T90A in Louisiana - headed for Texas? A captured Russian tank from the war in Ukraine mysteriously showed up at a truck stop in Louisiana, report says (msn.com) Spokespeople from two nearby military bases — one in Fort Polk, which is around 60 miles north, and one in New Boston, Texas, which is about 240 miles north of the truck stop — said it did not immediately appear the tank was headed there. "My opinion is this tank is probably owned by a private citizen or company," the Fort Polk spokesperson told The War Zone. "It doesn't seem likely the military would leave something like that unattended."

Release KSP2 Release Notes - Update v0.1.2.0
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Intercept Games's topic in KSP2 Dev Updates
Whoops - forgot that! It just fell into my general peeve / desire to scale UI elements. I do like the improved functionality, tho! You should repost this as an OP in the Discussion thread - other folks with similar specs / setup who are interested but leery about the performance might like to know! -

The potential is there. If they get stability and 'dumb' bugs fixed soon and get Science out in a reasonable timeframe, we will likely see an influx. That said, I'm thinking that Colonies will be the biggest pull, seeing as that's the first and truly 'new New' for the series. That update is a draw for people who remember KSP fondly - but aren't interested in being a beta-tester. -

UI/UX Sound disappears in if you write numbers in your career mode name

Did no one read the title? It's another instance of not properly isolating inputs. Just like hitting SHIFT to capitalize the name of your ship in Tracking Station - only to discover your ship has turned on the juice. Or 'M' in VAB sending you to the map.
