  1. Going toward Eeloo...Yes, again. Just did a close up on my ship. Can anyone see the obvious mistake? Well there is more than one but there is a big one. ME EDIT: I am going to finish my burn as proof of concept......But then to bed with me. Enough. EDIT that EDIT: If I stow the panel over the door I can use it. The ladder pokes out from the box. Alright.
  2. I was considering circularizing my orbit outside the Mun....after doing some Oberth manoeuvres. But with your rule of thumb 8 time my 41 minutes burn is close to 320 mins or 5.5h orbit. Might as well call it a day. Which would make it Geostationary....Or Half way to the Mun I believe. ME
  3. Still trying to get to Eeloo under 50t. So much to learn. The right combination of parts is still eluding me. That and getting the darn thing out of Kerbin's atmosphere. Right now I gave up on Atomic engines though I might go back to them. Ion is a lot lighter. Powering the engine and making it "Land" is another. The burn is so long with Ion that I have difficulties with the nodes.
  4. The part where the drill as to be deep enough in the ground? If that is your issue you can retract the landing legs and have your ship rest on the engines. The harvester might stick out a bit too much though. ME
  5. Hi. Welcome to the forum. I don't think there 's a real reason. Except the parts could be useful for some user. You could always go to the Tracking Center and destroy the Debris. ME
  6. Yup. I am learning a lot. Too much actually. It's no fun when it's hard. On my first attempt with landing I wasted Delta-V trying to FIND Eeloo. The second one I got there more efficiently but went much later in game time and Eeloo was much further away...More fuel to get there and more to come back. The ship as fuel only in the top tank and it's not full. Not enough. I am redesigning the space portion to carry more but that means redesigning the atmospheric portion as it's now too minimal. It was small with no wasted parts. I'll get there yet. EDIT: Cant remember the takeoff weight but is was around 40t. So I can work on that. It won't be one of those "Less than 5t. ME
  7. Tried again to get to Eeloo (While keeping the ship below 50t). Succeded this time.... But not enough fuel to come back....I checked again. There should have been enough but..... I learned a lot on this one. For instance Eeloo as a very small SOI. Precise manoeuvre is required to keep it in you "Flight path". I thought I didn't need solar panels as the atomic engine recharges the batteries.....I am not that good at saving them until the next time.....We are talking years. Eeloo is far and there ain't much sunshine. Landing is harder. Daylight is essential....Full daylight. Not a setting sun. The ship toppled. In my mind it was no big deal we'll right her right over......Oops. No RCS and no extra Gyros.....I left them at the shop. Eeloo isn't as slipery as Minmus....Belly takeoff don't work so well. But Jeb got to do a good "Navy Salute". Just wait till next time. I'll be back (And so will Jeb). ME
  8. Yesterday I built a two piece rocket to send 100 Kerbals to Duna, with a chance of returning, for the "The Elon's Problem Challenge". The bottom "One piece" turns into 3 on staging......I can fix that. They all come down down intact in the ocean.....I can fix that too.....I think. Made it to Duna....Without enough fuel.....Aaaaaarg! I figured landing with 10m/s was safe. It touched with 30m/s after running out. (Ship blew apart. No loss of Kerbals in the "Simulation"....) Darn you Red Baron bad luck. A lousy 20m/s. Today I try again. A little more fuel....Better transfer perhaps.....T'was my second time actually reaching Duna. ME
  9. I thought it had to do with the Planet "Jinx" from Larry Niven's "Known Space Series". ME
  10. I get it now. After watching the vid that is. So make a hinge and have the gear push the nose up....I am curious about closing in zero G. I am putting this in the back of my head for future builds. ME EDIT: Just watch your second vid. Interesting.
  11. Nice. I somehow forgot about the Skylab. I like the simpler version. When I first saw the image I thought the assimmetry was on purpose to reproduce the original's problems. But then it was one of the side panels. Still. Very nice. ME
  12. I refuse contracts all the time. Did I say all the time? Yup, I did. Meant it.
  13. I have had ship that had developed a thrust asymmetry. (I suspect Part clipping is involved). Check the fuel flow at full thrust between the 2 you may find one is starved. shutting down the good one cures the bad one. It's as if the game decided there ain't enough air or fuel for two so it favors one. If it's the same bug as I have seen then you may adjust the thrust limit of the engine at something less but acceptable for the game. 2 engines at 80% on a moon might work fine. ME
  14. Just played a bit in 1.2 and the Smaller Communotron the 16? Is now destroyed by air pressure when extended. So they "Fixed" it. ME
  15. Hi. Great job. Makes me feel like I play badly. I am impressed enough to make some experimentation on this challenge. I can't compete.....Yet. Not for a while Question-Comment. Maybe I missed or misread something but... The plates are for the landing legs. Why do you have landing legs at all? I dumped them a good while ago. I land on engines, fuel tanks and the other day on the heat shield (Top mounted dual Twich engine), all the time. Just watch the touchdown speed. No? I just checked for the eck of it and in order of size for the legs the impact and G resistance are: 10m/s&50G, 12m/s&50G, 12m/s&50G The Nerv Atomic Engine is 12m/s&50G. ME
  16. Putting a flag in orbit. It turned out to be so easy. I won. I was the only one who partook. I won. Me. Imagine that. ME
  17. Love the asymmetric pants. Looks like a man with gout and a wooden leg. So Kerbal. I have to remember that one. And imitate it. ME
  18. I saw that...somewhere and been using an antenna on the nose of my MK1 SSTo and they don't explode anymore on the climb. I was unaware you could deorbit nose first. That's good to know. You must have seen torn-off flight controls after a RUD. They move funny as if 100% of their weight was on the hinges. I think it's kind of the same with the antenna. The root is the real part. it's protected by the shaft and doesn't get as hot. ME
  19. There. I fixed it for you. On Linux the Alt key cannot be used (For a Linux reason). So the modifier key is the Right Shift. So you are half correct mon ami. ME
  20. I love their music. Joke aside: There and back. You mean landing? In 17 minutes? ME
  21. Do we get points back for parts returned? ME
  22. That' what I call Thinking stepping outside of the box. ME
  23. Today in KSP..... I browsed the forum. The other day I kept crashing so I thought I should report that today I crashed. Well I did crash. ....My PC. My own doing I am afraid. Half reloaded now. Tomorrow I play. I need my KSP dose. Suffering. ME
