Ion engines for the interplanetary.
-
Very slightly more than 50%, due to the possibility of twins.

The problem is issuing commands and communication jamming. You would probably want a couple human armed flagships, and then a hundred or so of medium sized(eg Rocinante) unmanned ships (with the possibility of being manned in case of jamming or boarding), and a million drones.
-
But a solid core engine would not.

A nuclear engine doesn't necessarily also generate power. In real life they would too. They shouldn't, they should stay for several months, but because of bureaucracy and subcontractors, every mission would be very bloated.

Future clothing could incorporate automatic tourniquets and makeshift casts by tightening fibers. That also could be used for freeze tag.
-
Is this still a thing?

KSP engine's "Thrust Limiter" analog in real life

SpaceX doesn't care if some people protest. Those people aren't their customers. To be honest we shouldn't send it to L1. We should sent it to the light focus point of the sun. All objects with mass bend light, so if you got far away enough, you could get to a point where the sun's gravity lensed light to, causing an enormous boost in magnification. To sent it out to 550(!) AU would take some creativity though.

Pulse is unrealistic due to radiation, but internal nuclear engines could be useful. The Aldeberan would use nuclear turbojets to take off, and use internal nuclear pulse propulsion to get to space. It could send 30,000 tons to LEO. However, its so big, launching would come with some logistical difficulties. It would create a small tsunami whenever it launched...

The James Webb Space Telescope and stuff
DAL59 replied to Streetwind's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This was supposed to launch in 2007 when it was proposed in 1997. It is now 2.5 times longer than it should be. SpaceX went from nothing to the Falcon Heavy in the time it took to build this.- 869 replies

Oddly, it fixed itself.

My Windows 10 computer freezes every few minutes. My mouse does not freeze, but I cannot use the taskbar, I cannot interact with any programs like google, and I cannot use wifi. I fix this by using cntr alt delete to open task manager to reset windows explorer, and then my computer works normally for a few more minutes before freezing again. However, it takes 5 minutes to reset windows explorer, making using my computer very inefficient.

I mean, someone else could build it and share the craft file with him.

So, it has been concluded that a Tylo SSTO is probably impossible. What might be possible, though, is an Eve SSTO. Why? You can use airbreathers for the Kerbin ascent, ions for the transits, and aerobraking for landing on Kerbin and Eve. You can also save fuel by horizontal takeoff on Eve, or have a spaceplane with stock props. Can it be done? @Matt Lowne @EvermoreAlpaca @sevenperforce @sdj64 @Andetch @JacobJHC @Lirtosiast
