  2. This beauty is too good to let it go unchecked, and I didn't found a better place for it as KAX has the engine used! 1909 French Blériot XI - allegedly the oldest airworth airplane in the World.
  3. 2023 is going to bite us until the bitter end! Jumplight Odissey was one of the games I was watching. Damn.
  4. A new Success Case about Open Source came to my attention. In 2002, Palm migrated their hugely successful (and bitterly missed) Palm OS from Dragonball (mobile 68k) to ARM, and released PalmOS 5 - by far, the version most used. Unfortunately, due a lot of bad bets, PalmSource (the Palm subsidiary responsible for developing and licensing PalmOS) ended up being acquired by a company called ACCESS - but since it didn't acquired the rights for the Palm brand, they renamed the thing to Garnet OS. And the Source Code was never released, and so the eco system was locked down on emulations. Until someone decided it was enough, and not only reversed engineered parts of the hardware support for the OS, but also reimplemented it to modern devices and made it Open Source! And now we have a proof of concept running on a Raspberry Pico. Right now, it's possible to post PalmOS 5 (unofficially, as only the reverse engineered hardware support is now open source) to anything that supports ARMv4T or ARMv5T. https://magpi.raspberrypi.com/articles/repalm https://dmitry.gr/?r=05.Projects&proj=27. rePalm For the sake of completude, the sad history of how Palm ceased to be can be found here: https://www.theverge.com/2012/6/5/3062611/palm-webos-hp-inside-story-pre-postmortem Open Source will find a way.
  5. Or perhaps that factchecker is right, and everybody and the kitchen's sink were trolled last year! (would not be the first time!)
  6. Seriously? Last year, when I first read about it, it was presented as a (allegedly) serious proposition - besides unfeasible. Anyway, Art imitates Life: The original idea (besides not being a Hotel) is a 1968 Study from NASA! https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/19720063062/downloads/19720063062.pdf -- -- POST EDIT -- -- HA! I found the CNN article!
  7. I sincerely curious to meet the guys that made such "concept"
  8. Hint: a powerful I/R LED flashlight grossly aimed into camera. Works day and night. Just don't use a laser or something too powerful, or the camera's CCD will be damage and then your friend will be sued.
  9. A whole week sleeping every night!!!
  10. No, AVC is right. The ÜberPaket is meant to people that don't want to worry about updating the Companions individually - it's an All Batteries included solution (including the ones you don't need). The individual packages are developed in parallel, and now and then I update the ÜberPaket with the latest versions as I convinced the new versions will not cause regressions. If you want to control the version of the Add'Ons individually using AVC, so it's better for you to download only the Companions you really want to use instead the whole ÜberPaket. — — POST EDIT — — There's a tool on TweakScale that will inspect your GameData looking for Add'Ons that are supported by a Companion. The tool will warn you: When you have installed an Add'On that can't be used without the respective Companion (as Firespitter). TweakScale will pesky you until you install it. When you have installed an Add'On that have a Companion, but the installation is optional. TweakScale will advise you about them every time the ModuleManager rebuilts the ConfigCache. So, in the end, it's all about how do you want to manage your rig: If you use CKAN, or don't want to bore with individual dependencies, use the ÜberPaket If you want to cherry pick the Companions, installing only what you need and managing them by hand, them AVC will warn you about a new version of that respective Companion. — — POST POST EDIT — — In your screenshot, you will note that AVC is telling you about a new version for TweakScale Companion for Firespitter, not the ÜberPaket. At this moment, the latest Companion for Firespitter is the 1.3.0.1: https://github.com/TweakScale/Companion_FS/releases The TSCo_FS currently on the UberPaket is still 1.3.0.0 https://github.com/TweakScale/Companion/blob/master/GameData/TweakScaleCompanion/FS/TweakScaleCompanion.FS.version And I will update the ÜberPaket as soon as I finish and test the patches of some more Companions that are WiP at this moment. — — POST POST POST EDIT — — I'm quoting the TweakScale Companion (UberPaket) https://github.com/TweakScale/Companion The same description will be found on SpaceDock and CurseForge: https://spacedock.info/mod/3202/TweakScale Companion (the "UberPaket") https://www.curseforge.com/kerbal/ksp-mods/tweakscale-companion — — POST POST POST POST EDIT — — But I forgot to update this very OP with this info - shame on me! Well, fixed.
  11. Gee… How much to end this year? It's about time! Unity to lay off another 265 staff, drop Weta in 'company reset'
  12. Don't be so "optimistic". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Large_language_models_and_copyright Look carefully what Disney is going to do about AI generated art derivated from Disney I.P. Disney had paced the Copyright practices in the past (a lot of weird Copyright rules on Software are consequence from Disney stablishing precedents), and there's a good chance they are going to do it again. Software is still under the same Copyright Rules as books and art. — — POST EDIT — — That said, I'm not telling you that it's impossible to build a LLM for copyright free code - as long you can prove that you are using only copyright free data to train it. I suggest you to, also, read about: https://blockworks.co/news/ai-copyright-blockchain Of course I'm not advocating the use of blockchain, other methodologies can accomplish the same goal - take the link above as an evidence that LLM and Copyrights are a problem that you will need to cope with. — — POST POST EDIT — — MOAR LINKS: https://venturebeat.com/ai/the-copyright-case-against-ai-art-generators-just-got-stronger-with-more-artists-and-evidence/
  13. Please mind the license. GPL derivative code should be licensed under GPL, don't matter if it was coded using a human brain or a LLM.
  14. I noticed someone browsing this page and thought it could be a good idea to write a small essay about the subject - it's highly probable that someone looking for this information will drop here again. The best KSP version for you will depend of some variables, so I will provide you with a few use cases and then my recommendation: You have a pretty crappy machine (Weak CPU, less than 8GB of ram, GPU with 1GB VRAM or less) Go for KSP 1.4.3 (or even 1.3.1, if you have less then 4GB and a dual core). KSP 1.4.5 introduced some PQS enhancements that ended up eating some VRAM, and if you are low on VRAM these features will backfire on you. Avoid it. If you have a somewhat decent machine, but not too much top notch - or you are engaging on long term careers and don't want to handle an infinite number os bugs and mishaps on KSP Give 1.7.3 a try. The Robotics are not the most stable things in the World, but the rest of the system is pretty stable. And it's more featured than 1.4.x! You want the best visual experience, have a pretty decent machine and are not inclined on committing on long careers KSP 1.12.5 is the one to go. It's the most feature rich of all of them. You will need to install some add'ons that fix a lot of KSP bugs, there's no way to play 1.12.5 without them. Very few older Add'Ons will work fine with it, however - it's better not to install anything not stating explicitly compatibility to 1.12.x Some users reported KSP 1.10.1 to be pretty stable, and still compatible with a lot of older Add'Ons, you may want to give it a try if by some reason 1.12.5 doesn't works for you. Different people will have different opinions, of course. So take these as they are: my 5 cents about the subject and not rules written on stone. Good launchings!
  15. Oukey, crying laughing time. Both of my restroom's roofs needed maintenance the whole year, so I finally managed to make appointments with the mason to work on them now. Better later than never, but having to work on both restrooms at the same time is pretty… Annoying - by more than one reason! Being not enough, we found serious problems on the pantry and the damned room need to be completely revamped and with urgency (it was really bad), what also means that I had to empty it and scatterer everything on the kitchen, as there's no more space on the rest of the house - already full of boxes due unrelated reasons. (Had I mentioned that I had hurt my arm last week? Well, since I had to do some physical work today, I hurt it again!) And since I'm already completely screwed, I decided to do also the service area, as it's adjacent to one of the restrooms and the pantry - and the mason explained that since I'm really screwed, doing the service area wouldn't add too much to the bill - it will be more expensive to work only on it later. What's 15% more on the bill anyway? (Yeah, kiss Xmas budget byebye!) But… There's more. Two buildings adjacent to my condo are being demolished. Putting down two 8 stories edifices is a lot of work, dust and noise - I'm hearing stone crushers the whole month 9 x 5. So now I have stone crushers working on the neighbour, on my restrooms and on my pantry - and soon on the service area. Oh, yes!! Our (new) biggest client will go live today night! I'm reviewing the servers! (typing with a hurt arm is a… challenge. ) Man… Would today be Monday, it would be perfect. (I need a hug)
  16. I spent some time thinking about, and then I remember that Cities:Skylines have exactly the same "problem": a very prestigious older version still being sold, and the new release getting some heat due bugs. Digging Steam about it, I came to this: The complete Cities: Skylines Collection is being sold, right now, by R$ 1.106.66 (local currency), while the Sequel in the Ultimate Edition (already?) is now R$ 379,99. It worths to mention that, as well KSP¹ vs KSP2, the Original Cities works on Windows, MacOS and Steam (Linux), while the Cities II only on Windows. Cities: Skylines have a ton of DLCs, while KSP¹ have only two - so, obviously, the pricing should reflect this. Perhaps we should follow what's happening with the Cities: Skylines franchise to see if there's some lessons to be learnt? — — POST EDIT — — Or perhaps not. Skylines II started pretty well, but currently it's at the same level than the Prequel. Still better than KSP2, but yet...
  17. Making clear I'm not a professional on the field, my guess is that she's suffering from a chemical unbalance in their brain (or perhaps hormones). I will refrain from further expanding the idea to avoid misunderstandings or risking people trying self medication. @Kerbalsaurus, I would suggest a visit to an Endocrinologist. It also have the additional benefit of not being a doctor related to "cringe diseases".
  18. And you think that KSP2 is going to be one of them, both, or none?
  19. You need to account for the extra mass. Assuming the math above are correct, you will need 45 units of LFO to each 1000 units of Xe. There're fuel tanks more or less with this capacity, the R11 Bagueta, the Round 8 Toroidal and the R-12 Doughnut. Their mass is about 0.33 tons (full). So your probe will carry such extra mass, what will impact your D/V - but at least this mass will lower as you consume the fuel. Then there's the mass of the Fuel Cell itself, the Fuel Cell Array will cost you 0.24 tons, and this mass is constant the whole mission. This will give you 18 E/sec, what's enough to feed two Ion Engines. On the other hand, a PB-NUK RTG costs you 0.08 tons in mass each, but gives you only 0.8 E/sec - so you will need 12 of them for each Ion Engine (or you will need to have batteries to accumulate the energy produced by the RTGs). Or 0.96 tons only for the RTGs - and this mass is constant for the whole mission, but you will not run out of fuel, as it will happen with the Fuel Cells. Going back to our Fuel Cells, you will be better served by them as long you plan to consume 2.000 units of Xe or less per Ion Engine (as the tanks and fuel needed will cost about 0.66 tons of mass, and you will need a Fuel Cell Array with additional 0.24 tons). Otherwise, the Equation of the Rocket will start to bite you and you will be probably better served by using the 12 RTGs per ion engine. Of course, I'm conveniently ignoring the cost in Funds of the whole ordeal. RTGs are pretty expensive, 23.300F each!
  20. Of course not! The Dres Planetary Society is still working on the case!
  21. This one is recent, but looks like something made on the Old Days!
  22. Nope . System Heat is a whole new set of PadtModules and I need to check them in order to know what to scale and what not. Even by using something like All Tweak, the thing will misbehave because the new PartModules aren't supported.
  23. I can understand that, but the criticism I had read demolished the whole show, not only the plot. And, as a matter of fact, I found the plot pretty interesting. The plot twist on the last episode of the season caught me with my pants down. Some characters were completely rewritten, but the essence of the main characters was there - obviously, with a heavy hand on consequences. I had watched the original show about 16 years ago, and yeah - it's also excellent. But the live action have a more mature content, I think. Well, I just finished the first (and only) season, and I found it great. I can only mourn the show was cancelled, however. The way the plot was going as very promising!
