Hi ! Today, we continue this tutorial serie for a Moon landing, fully manual from the start of the powered descent to touchdown, all from the cockpit (IVA). This is one of the trickiest part of IVA flying, but one of the most rewarding for sure ! Link to the previous/next parts of those retro-IVA tutorials : Cheers

Outstanding work ! Congrats ! Today, I finished the fourth part of the IVA tutorial serie, which is about landing on the Moon, only from the cockpit view ! Fully manual, from the start of powered descent to touchdown ! It's definitely one the most demanding/tricky task to be done in IVA, especially with those old instruments, but is also very rewarding and satisfying This in RSS/RO, but of course applies to stock too : ) Or to others modded IVAs, like the ASET lander can for instance. Any questions/feedback welcome Also please be gentle on my kerbglish, there's a quite a bunch of langage quirks I was lazy to edit in with tiny rubber patches, but hopefully it's still understandable haha : P This uses the new RSS-reborn textures/configs btw, which are absolutly beautiful, outstanding work by BallisticFox ! (found on his patreon) Cheers

Hi, I've been messing around lately, and I would like to try applying a texture to an already exsiting IVA : Example : taking the Mark 1 stock comand pod, and replacing its "background interior textures" with ones extracted from a 3D model, like this one : What would be the steps for that ? Note that blender and me do have a pretty spicy relationship (I'm quite new to this, and texture work in general). I guess deleting the stock textures and replacing them with ones, but I'd guess I'd need to convert those 3D model to PNGs ? As it's what I'm seing in most internal folders... Anyways... gonna keep diggin' Thanks for your help !

Continuation of the previous episode, which was about rendez-vous, this ones covers old manual docking, instruments only ! Which involves the usage of that bloody X-pointer instrument... Looks overwhelming at first, but in the end allows for very precise and smooth dockings to be made, and is also so damn rewarding and fun ! Link to the previous/following parts of those retro-IVA tutorials : Questions/feedback welcome Cheers

Today I did put together the following episode of the retro IVA tutorial serie, this time about manual docking instruments only, old style ; ) Which involves the usage of that bloody X-pointer instrument... Looks overwhelming at first, but in the end allows for very precise and smooth dockings to be made, and is also so damn rewarding ! Questions/feedback welcome Cheers

Hi ! This is the continuation of the first part of the tutorial serie (spoiler below) about flying retro styled IVA spacecrafts, this one will focus on the DSKY usage, as well as a rendez-vous guide, instruments only ! Previous/following tutorial parts : Feel free to ask any questions or provide feedback : ) Cheers

Absolutly Glorious !!! I love it happy IVA-ing Any intentions of realeasing this work sometimes ? would be awesome On my side, after a good hiatus busy with IRL work, went back to KSP, opened my career save after months, and had like 2 launch windows coming with no spacecraft built, moon base to finish, mission to monitor, some kerbals running out of life support, didn't know what the hell I was doing when I left haha. Even with alarms, doing a lot of mission simultaneously is quite tedious to get back in, after a break So anyway, I went to fly a bit in IVA in RSS, and continued my tutorial serie about retro styled IVAs. : ) This one covers the DSKY usage, as well as manual rendez-vous instruments only ! Next part will cover docking... Cheers

Hey ! Thanks for sharing !! I always recommend your IVAs for those looking for detailled and immersive interiors : ) Also very late for answer, was busy with ton of work since a few months... ^^ Cheers

thanks : ) Hey ! Thank you for CPOTM, and grats to the others ! : D Sorry I'm very late to all this, but was working crazy since this summer, didn't have much time to dedicate to virtual life haha Cheers

Kerbal SUBNAUTIC Program · Docking with a MASSIVE underwater CITY
kurgut replied to kurgut's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Interesting ! Yeah the city was sinking mostly, but the problem was that It didn't fall straight (since remember, that whole thing is mostly one giant single part^^), and also some parts of the city aren't welded like the docking section : with more effort it might have worked I think, but in the end, editing the safe file was easier and much faster, with the big benefit to not add more parts to this contraption which was already happily tanking my framerate haha. Sweet, thank you! Thanks to you! Yeah... can't disagree with that < 3 (btw just stumbled upon this KK addon, I think I'll have some fun with that when I have some time... adds moving leviathan, cave system, rock boulders, mushroom forest, didn't try it yet but sounds fun) CountryDoggo's Random KK Bits on SpaceDock Cheers! -
Buffalo 2 Modular Space Exploration Vehicle
kurgut replied to Angelo Kerman's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thanks for sharing ! Glad you liked it ! I could recognize the taste indeed Thank you! No I didn't publish anything, also because of licensing we'd have to check, since I'm using props from user Vulkan (his MAS IVAs are released on the community tab of his YT channel), and don't about if he licensed his work or not/which... I'm also using NF props and Habtech 2 props (just a few bits), and thus could be removed if you intend to include it in buffalo 2, and want to keep dependencies count low... Although NFprops adds quite a bit in decoration... I'm out of home now until late august with a lot work, so I'll dig into that at this moment ! : ) Cheers! -
Kerbal SUBNAUTIC Program · Docking with a MASSIVE underwater CITY
kurgut replied to kurgut's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Also, I'd be curious to see if anyone recognise the music the pops at 4:27 ? Just after entering physics range with Nereia... -
My first ever underwater docking, and in IVA view ! Recently I discovered the beautiful Buffalo 2 mod by @Angelo Kerman, with a neatly made MAS IVA. I fired this up, along with sunkworks (by him too : ) ) and went underwater, with parallax scatters, and oh boy I was thrilled. That's the start... The end is me making an absolutly gigantic underwater city, modifying the submarine IVA to add even more cool screens and props, and voilà ^^ Rabbit hole again haha You can find the video at the bottom of this post, as the modlist : ) Just sharing some bits of the process, since it was... interesting hehe : I first made the city, it was more than 800 parts when completed, of course using tweakscale like hell, to make the parts huge. Then I welded it (with Ubio welding mod), that brought the part count to less than 40. But it still lags a lot, I guess because that's a huge texture model to render, and + there's a lot of lights... Image in the VAB, and on the runway, to show the size comparison with KSC : Then sunking that thing starts to get funny... Since the center of mass of a welded part is placed at the center of the geometry... haha, So of course ore tanks won't do, not weighty enough. I tried a trick using utiliy weight mod, then with hyperedit, in flight, increased the "tons" (it's a resource in this mod), but it did break the attachement point each time, and resulted in a beautiful and thrilling R.U.D. I tried using the ballasts from sunkworks, but they weren't enough too. And finally, the simplest idea came to edit this goddam craft file... I increased the mass of the city to some thousands of kilo tons. Increased the crash resistance to 1000 m/s, and voilà ! It sank in 5 seconds, and hit the seabed at 100 m/s The city is at ~500 m depth. I changed parallax scatter settings so they look nice with the city, and also scatterer ocean settings, so it's less dark at this depth. Then I embarked on the submarine, first I used the SEA 64 to level the craft (wasn't intuitive at first, but afterwards really stable and worked very well ! Great mod ). Then I moved around with the engine, and the underwater RCS for translation and thus docking too. Sadly I couldn't make any quicksave/load, since the ballasts got reset, and made my craft go up to the surface instantly, so I had to do the whole mission in one save (btw in the video, this is my first docking attempt: ) That's it, the rest can be seen in the video, let me know If you've any questions ! And enjoy ! (best watched with headphones) After an expedition to gather some kelp to make kelp pies, and taking some scientific measurements, the Echo-3 exploration submarine returns to the capital underwater city of the Kerbin oceans, Nereia. Also, apparently, the tastier kerbin kelps are found deep, near the sea bed. But ancient Kerbal tales also speak about a giant specie, that would be responsible for so many ship sunkings, and thus was at some point adored by some kerbal cultures as a divinity... : The Krakiatan. (from the Great Kerbal Book of Mythology, he's supposed to be the great uncle of the Kraken himself) Hope's it's gonna be allright ! Important mods used : Also this gives idea for better underwater stuff I guess (at least If I was a planet modder)... Just sharing most of the things that passed by my head when exploring the depths : more types of scatters, thus more underwater(water) biomes. The load distance and behavior of the seagrass and others gets clunky when increased, so sadly it's only small range around the craft (still ~400m). Have different variant of scatterer underwater tint, not global, so they can be set per biome, and thus have normal color for shores, maybe some green_ish for "algae-like" biome, purple/deep-blue for some forest mushroooms (yeah subnautica^^), etc. Have a better terrain height map (idk if some planet pack has one for underwater ? if so I'd be glad to know! : ) ), so the sea bed is more interesting to explore (canyons, craters, wave like formations, mountains, underwater volcanos (possible with EVE integration ? like geysers for instance? ),...) But yeah it's really small niche in the player base, so I guess those will remain dreams haha... or in KSP 2 ? ^^ Cheers (Also would anyone like to make a Leviathan (Krakiatan sorry) and peeper mod ? )
-
Maybe that's a tad too much haha, but I greatly appreciate the compliment, thank you ! : D Cheers

Today, I did my first-ever underwater docking in KSP ! And in IVA (cockpit) view. Was a real thrill, Jeb could tell you. After an expedition to gather some kelp to make kelp pies, and taking some measurements, the Echo-3 exploration submarine returns to the capital underwater city of the Kerbin oceans, Nereia. (modlist is the video description : ) ) Cheers !

Today, I'm testing a submarine ! Jeb wanted to see how a kelp pie would taste, so an expedition was sent. Apparently, the tastier kelps are found deep, near the sea bed. But ancient Kerbal tales also speak about a giant specie, that would be responsible for so many ship sunkings, and thus was at some point adored by some kerbal cultures as a divinity... : The Krakiatan. (from the Kerbal Book of Mythology, he's supposed to be the great uncle of the Kraken himself) Hope's it's gonna be allright ! Mods are sunkworks and buffalo 2. The cockpit IVA is custom made. Also now I only need fishes : P Cheers !

totm aug 2023 Threads of the month: August 2023
kurgut replied to adsii1970's topic in Threads of the Month
Hey thank you for "CPOTM" ! Glad to inaugurate this new acronym Grats to others totm forum members too ! Cheers -
Well "it's out" Finished the last edits today, Also tought it'd be funny to share how I came up doing this : At the beginning, I didn't plan making a video at all, I just sat in the Cupola, and spend a full revolution (~2h in KSP due to time passing slower), while listening to some music in the background. Was truly a cool experience. I also recorded it, just to see how it looked like. Hell it looked cool, truly was giving a sense of seeing the Earth through the eyes of an astronaut up there, seeing the countries passing by in a few seconds, seing a sunset and sunrise few minits appart.. So well then I tought why no upload this raw footage ! But ok, of course I juuust edited it a bit, and a tad here, and some cut here and there... Oh ! why not record more footage, this part doesn't look great... The interiors of the ISS are dull, why not add a "few" computers and sciency stuff and edit the IVAs... Hmm, why wouldn't I add just a "few" kerbal voiced conversations to make it more alive ? ---> Typical me falling again in the rabbit hole ^^ This a new format to me as well, more contemplative due to its nature and slow paced, I hope you enjoy it anyway ! Through the eyes of a Kerbonaut, jump in the Cupola module of the International Space Station, and watch the beauty of our planet from 400 km above the surface, for a full revolution around the Earth ! Clouds, city lights, aurorae, thunderstorms, incredible colors,... The astronaut is amazed and sees the fragility and the invaluable side of your "big pale blue dot" , as he calls it (best watched with headphones ) Cheers (In case you missed the trailer here it is : ) CUPOLA - a KSP film - Trailer )
-
Today, well and the past weeks haha, I've been working on this project, a little KSP Film A full revolution around the Earth, through the eyes of an astronaut (well kerbonaut :P), inside the ISS Cupola module. It's more a contemplative feel of video, which is quite new to me, also a tribute to the beauty and fragility to our home, this "big pale blue dot", as Tomas says. : ) Also features voiced kerbal dialogues between Tomas, the main protagonist, and the other crew of the ISS, as well as Houston. See ya ! (premiere starts at 22h00 UTC / 16h EST, messed up time zones in the vid-facepalm)
-
Ok this was too beautiful, so I couldn't resist making a short video about it... The Progress resuppply spacecraft is on final approach for docking to the International Space Station, bringing fresh snacks and science for everybody ! An astronaut watches the docking sequence from the Cupola, while the Sun rises over the Atlantic Ocean. : ) ISS is from Habtech 2 and Tantares, the Progress/Soyuz from RN_Soviet Spacecrafts and some Tantares bits as well, + some decorative elements I added too : ) Cheers
-
Today, The Progress spacecraft came to dock to the ISS, bringing fresh snacks for everybody ! Kerbonaut Tomas Peskerman is watching the docking sequence from the Cupola, while the Sun rises on the Atlantic Ocean. Btw this beautiful Soyuz model is from RN_soviet spacecraft mod < 3 A video should be coming soon about that and other ISS things as well... stay tuned ! : ) Cheers

Yesterday I had an epic moment with a friend of mine trying KSP for the first time. Launched a hopper, staged the capsule decoupler at the same time as the solid fuel Thumper. He still made it to space somehow (he didn't realized his capsule wasn't attached to the engine ). Then once in space, I told him to hit the EVA button, and then spacebar (let go mwahahaha). His jetpack wasn't working. We had to clear imput locks... Apoapsis was at 85km. Already going down he was. 1 minute left before atmo, his kerbal drifting away from the capsule. He manage to activate the jetpack, and starts flying in all the direction except the capsule (he didn't know the controls). (Also I said the minimum so he could discover by himself) He enters atmosphere. I tell him he can manage vertical translation with shift/ctrl. He manage to get closer. But the capsule is rotating... 60km... taking up speed and heat... At 55km, I tell him to spam "F" (grab), as he's around the hatch. Also he didn't think to control the camera, so had a crappy angle on the scene. ^^ He grabs it ! Atmo drag is starting to pull the kerbal away. But he still climbs the few ladder bits. me : "Spam B !! Spam B !!!" Board. MIRACLE ! He landed safely on Kerbin. We had 5 minutes laugh after that. xxxtimes more epic than Interstellar docking scene. God how good is it to discover KSP ! I'm sooo sad neither of us tought of recording this moment, would have made a funny video. ^^ Cheers
