  1. I think basing the difficulty on the mass and the amount of kerbals transported is a bit arbitrary. A better way would be how many planets it visits at the target destination, whether or not it sets up a colony, if anyone gets to go home again, etc.
  2. I invited a few friends over to watch Starship Flight 7 with me. I had a great time and loved explaining how the vehicle works and what the plans for it are. It's a shame about the Ship, but at least it means nobody had to stand around awkwardly while it coasted in space.
  3. With an attempt to make a second copy of KSP for mod-specific save reasons, I discovered that my drive was practically full! I decided to put my movies on a thumb drive to free up space, and since I gave my phone an SD card, I no longer need to keep older photos on my computer, which also takes up lots of space. Not surprisingly, KSP takes up the most room. No compromises on that one.
  4. I'm pretty sure this is an alternate history where space travel is delayed because of another war after WWII.
  5. Today I realized, that all this time my Jool 5 Mission report misspelled the word "avocado." Special thanks to everyone for not making fun of "avodaco."
  6. Another idea: Copies of the face on Duna, but different colors for the object they're on.
  7. The key misleading term here is "smart." Any appliances marketing themselves as being smart are lying to you. The only thing they have to differentiate themselves is intelligence. Humans have shown that when you have intelligence, it's hard to make smart decisions because you now know more decisions you can make. An appliance lacking intelligence has only one option: do what the human says. (Breaking is the second option, but it's not done out of choice unless you're Apple.) Regardless of how the future turns out, I hope that I can at least choose the level of intelligence in my appliances, rather than only being presented with ones touting high intelligence. Or maybe good decision-making capabilities will become how intelligent products compete amongst themselves, like this xkcd (Rule of xkcd: For any subject, there is a relevant comic):
  8. Monoliths, man, you can never get enough monoliths. Maybe some really weirdly shaped rocks.
  9. The irony of this thread is that it's the 404th post in Announcements.
  10. I think I have all the mods I need now. I caught the culprit- the butler did it! (And by butler I mean Final Frontiers.) Shame about not having that mod, but the game loads now! I think I will now try to actually play the game.
  11. Good grief, if I ask ChatGPT for a Wrong Red Moon post it just might start quoting me word for word now.
  12. A possible fate for the KSP IP is that they spend a bit of money marketing it, perhaps, turning public opinion around, and then sell it for a higher price. Or they wait for the sting of the KSP2 fiasco to die down and sell it at a higher price. Or they sell it at a loss. Or not at all. Or it becomes public domain— so many possibilities.
  13. I love your rover! I should've thought of using the half-Mk2 pieces from Airplane Plus, that's clever.
  14. @Kevin_kerman @Mr. Kerbin This is the tilde key: "~" It should be to the left of the number one on your keyboard, and when used with numbers it means approximately or about. Ex: "The mission will take ~12 years to complete." I've never used it before, so it stood out to me. It definitely can, but I'm looking specifically for paths that approximate what the Voyagers did.
  15. Amen to that. If people 50 years ago didn't need a smart toaster, neither do I. Welcome back to KSP! I think it has to do with how loading bars work. This Tom Scott video does a good job of explaining why.
  16. With the new changes, a Jool-Sarkin-Elross chain appears to line up every ~270 years (bet you've never used the tilde key before). Hamis also seems to align as well, but differing inclinations mean taking a stop there isn't always the best move. The first alignment is around Year 115, the second is Year 390. The outer solar system- it's almost a debris field. Something happened here. Something big.
  17. Yeah, my Minmus Elcano rover uses a Mk 2 inline as the cockpit. It looks pretty sweet. The mission is linked in my signature if you're into Minmus like me. I'm currently reinstalling mods a few at a time, in batches. Hopefully, I can catch the troublemaking one this way. So I haven't even played the game yet, only clicked "quit" as soon as I verified it can load, to install the next batch of mods.
  18. Oh, that makes a lot of sense. I wonder why I didn't think of that.
  19. Fair enough No problem. I think this is a cool mod idea; wherever it goes will be exciting. Where will the binary go?
  20. Oh! I was going to look at procedural fairings for you to see if it worked, but then KSP stopped working, and here I am. Glad it's working for you!
  21. If I can give my honest opinion, (taking into account what others have said) I think Beyond Jool is pretty good as it is. I would consider upgrading Elross to a gas giant (from what I have been able to figure out so far it is not, I'm still working on getting KSP to run). If you do go for a binary gas giant, make them different sizes- the closest we have to a binary system in real life are Earth and Pluto, and Charon and the Moon are considerably smaller than their respective parent bodies. Two data points are poor statistics, but it does suggest an overall pattern.
  22. The purpose of 'smart' technology is to convince us that we don't want AI-integrated technology. This is clearly an insightful move by the time travelers who control the government. Wait, come back! I have more theories!
  23. I decided to start planning my Grand Tour. As I was thinking through a mission through the stock system, I realized I could see the whole mission in my head—all of it, from the ship design to how I'd pull off the landings—and it was too easy. Granted, if I followed through with my original plan, it would still be a fun mission with many learning opportunities, but I want to challenge myself, more than ever before. So what could be more challenging than adding more planets? I wasn't planning on including Beyond Jool at first, but now I realize it's the perfect challenge. Speaking of which, this mission will likely get its own thread on the forums like my Jool 5 did. I loved sharing that mission, but all of the ship design (which is half of KSP anyway) is dumped on you, with little explanation for why I did what I did. For this mission report, I'll document it from the beginning, hopefully giving a cool insight into how I think and how this kind of mission is planned.
  24. No worries, now that I know how to use the calculator it should be a trivial issue. I don't think Beyond Jool is the problem, either, I think a couple of mods aren't being nice to each other.
