Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
@TwoCalories I’m afraid I can’t reserve a spot for you in the submissions. I’m only doing it for SkyFall because I felt bad about rejecting his spacecraft submission. Speaking of which… @SkyFall2489 We will have to reconsider your offer. This fully reusable spacecraft is something that will come in handy for space station construction. As for the module weight, I’d say between 10-15 tons? I’d have double check that. -
Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I’m sorry, but they’re not open anymore. At the moment, Beyond doesn’t have much demand for a private space shuttle as the Libra Orbit exists as well as the current WIP shuttle program. However, you have given me a very good idea… if you’d like to submit something, I’ll pick it first. —————————————— YEAR 3, DAY 209 - CALLING ALL BUSINESSES Kerman Station is an ever expanding outpost in space right now, with the first tourist flights flying up now. But one thing tourists want is luxury, which the standard module doesn’t have. And Beyond’s scientists and engineers aboard Kerman Station would like to work without people constantly getting in the way. So we ask various private space agencies to submit their own space station modules to launch up to Kerman Station. Modules must be able to support at least 3 Kerbals. You have the choice between a habitat and laboratory module. But act fast! Only four modules can be launched! How to Send in your Module - Share your space program’s name - Share you program’s flag - Share a link to you Module on KerbalX -
totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Kerbalsaurus replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
I recently discovered Sovietwave, and instantly when digging deeper into the genre. This song in particular has been stuck in my, called Faster than Light by Be Smooth. This song and many others have been good background tracks in school, while studying, and while playing KSP. And the ones with lyrics aren’t distracting, because I don’t understand Russian! -
Happy birthday, man. Sorry you’re going through such a hard time right now. I’m sure many people have already said this to you, but remember: there’s always a light at the end if the tunnel.

I’ll leave it in for a few more minutes… can’t hurt, right? Fails a test.

Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
YEAR 3, DAY 308 - DAREDEVIL 1 The might Eve II once again finds itself on the launchpad, perhaps the most successful rocket Beyond has ever flown. On it is the Open-Air Re-Entry Vehicle (OAREV), nicknamed "Daredevil 1". Daredevil 1 is the magnificent marvel of modern engineering that will bring Felix Kerman back to Kerbin on his "jump" from space. The spacecraft and jump themselves are sponsored the world famous (and highly unhealthy) Kerb-Bull Energy Drink. The launch from Cape Kerman tonight is fairly unremarkable though. Several missions have already left for and docked to Kerman Station. There really isn't much else to say, is there. Launch Sequence Once in orbit, preparations begin for docking. The crew aboard Kerman Station begin preparing the docking port on the avionics module, while ground teams set up its rendezvous maneuver. Standard stuff, really. And there we go! Everything is now in place for Libra 4, and its historic mission! -

Is that a Delta-SLS mix? -
I worked on this in class today. It’s depiction of the Soviet LK-1 lander on the Moon, the piece appropriately named “Red Moon”. Originally I was just trying to draw the lander from reference for a Soviet art series I wanted to draw, but one thing led to another. Next thing you know I have drawn a whole background. I apologize that the image is in such low quality.

I had a dream last night where I was reading a comments section and all of the comments were Ohio. The worst part is that later that morning I couldn’t tell if it was a dream or not.

Beyond: Kerbalkind's History of Space Exploration
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I haven’t, KOS is confusing. I’ll have to write done your directions. Thanks! I tried basing it off if your PFP, and for some reason, that one really stuck out. Yeah, I now just have to wait for the next transfer window for the next big Duna mission(s). Unfortunately, it’s 200 days. A lot of waiting. -

YEAR 3, DAY 304 - EXPLORER 2 For the past year or so, interplanetary exploration has been at the back of everyone's minds. Crewed exploration of space has been advancing so rapidly recently, with Kerman Station capable of sustaining a permanent Kerbal presence in space, and the Aurora Program carrying Kerbals back to deep space. But exploration of the planets is important. Explorer 2's goal will not be to orbit Duna, but its mysterious moon Ike. Ike itself is strange, as its size is very large relative to Duna. Data from Explorer 1 shows that Ike covers vast swaths of the surface during every Kerbolar Eclipse. We need to understand Ike, as it may be the key for landing Kerbals on Duna. Liftoff! Stage 2 ignition Orbital insertion burn Once in orbit, the Explorer 2 team prepare for the burn to Ike. Because Ike's SOI is so big, we ca get an encounter of it from Kerbin orbit AND get there within less than 200 days. After 1 orbit of Kerbin, we fire our engines for the Duna system. TDI burn Explorer 2 begins its journey to Ike, where it's due to arrive in about 196 days. -

YEAR 3, DAY 292 - FIRST LIBRA ORBIT SPACE TOURIST REVEALED! Kerbalsaurus Kerman (Left), Felix Kerman (Middle), and @fulgur Kerman (Right) After a long time of consideration, the first tourist to ride in Jeb's Junkyard's Libra Orbit has been decided! And who's the lucky (and rich) Kerbal? Why, it's Felix Kerman of course! The world famous daredevil! He's proposed an idea: a jump into Kerbin's atmosphere from orbit. At first this idea was dismissed as crazy talk. No space suit can survive such conditions. That was, until a new design was proposed. It's cheap, but could work. By strapping parachutes and stainless-steel beams onto a massive heatshield, our engineers were able to create the world's very first open-air spacecraft! This spacecraft is like no other, and very dangerous, but Felix has said he's up for the challenge. Going up with him will be his coach and trainer, who sadly couldn't make it to this press conference. Congratulations to Felix and @fulgur Kerman for their contributions to Beyond and Kerbalkind! -
Subassemblies are broken???
Kerbalsaurus replied to TwoCalories's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Most likely. If not, I'm afraid I'm completely incompetent to help. -
Subassemblies are broken???

Oh, I've encountered that before. I can't pinpoint the exact issue (I know nothing about computers), but restarting your game fixes it. -
The Third Great Number War: The Long Haul!
Kerbalsaurus replied to AtomicTech's topic in Forum Games!
N -75! @AtomicTech what are we doing for the winning number? NEGATIVES WIN! Game Rules. These are the game rules. As per instructions from the moderators. There is to be no role play elements to the battle. Simple exclamations that we are getting ahead or falling behind, or saying you need help are fine, but no suggestion that you are part of an army or fantasy faction in some epic confrontation. It is more or less attempting to reach a goal line and passing to another with the same goal or getting intercepted by someone going the other way. There is a term used in the forums called "Being Ninja'd". Basically if while you are typing your post someone else posts a move and you don't see it till you have refreshed your page. This then causes you to have to edit your post to correct for the new number. It is then not unheard of for someone to post before you have had a chance to edit your post and so a cascade effect happens. To make clear your original intent in the hopes of lessening this, These are the rules for posting as follows. When posting please preface your number by one of 4 letters. P if you are trying to get the score to +70 N if you are trying to get the score to -70 Z if your goal is to get the score to zero C if you are chaotic and just post as you feel, but your number must only be 1 different from the last post put. The addition of the number 1 or the subtraction of the number 1. By doing this a player can see what you intended to put and post knowing what it would be if you had not been ninja'd. There is a 5 minute rule for individual number posts done by you, this is to minimize spam and ninja posting. To post a new number post, there are 4 rules that must be followed for it to be considered valid. To make a valid number post, 1: Your previous post must say it was made 5 minutes or greater before your current. 2: Any other player must have posted a number post between your last post and your new post. 3: Your post must be only 1 number different from the last post. Clarification: The number must be the whole number known as 1, spelt One. Either the addition of 1 or the subtraction of 1. 4: Your number must have a preface letter. All new games must start with a "0" . If you posted the winning post, be it +75 or -75 , then it is asked that you copy this post into a new post and update the tally so that this is at the beginning of a new game. CKR: A Soviet-Style KSP Playthrough
Kerbalsaurus replied to Kerbalsaurus's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
CHAPTER 6: WALKING AMONG THE STARS YEAR 1, DAY 363 - MUNA 6 The quest to improve Munar infrastructure and research continues, as today Muna 6 will take off from the Kerbal Cosmodrome. The goal of this mission is to enter a polar Munar orbit, gathering data from every part of the Mun, getting a low definition map of its surface, and other such sciencey things. Muna 6 will be using the standard advanced orbiter design. If it works, it works. No need to change it (in real life the Soviets continued to use the R-7, so that's the mentality I'm following). Orbital insertion burn TMI burn While en route to the Mun, Muna 6 has to preform a mid-course correction burn. Getting into a polar Munar orbit would be way too expensive from LKO. A little engine puff is needed, that's all. Now we just sit and wait MOI burn Muna 6 deploys its science systems, and begins its long term observation mission. The Mun is being brought ever closer. *** YEAR 1, DAY 385 - DUNA 1 Duna 1 preforms a little mid-course correction en route, making it's encounter with the red planet a bit closer. Krackenspeed, Duna 1! See you at Duna! *** YEAR 1, DAY 386 - MYATNYY 5 Just like Muna 6, Myatnyy 5 will also place itself into a polar orbit of its intended destination. Nothing much to say. Just observations of Minmus, midcourse correction, yada yada you get the gist. Launch sequence TMI burn Myatnyy 5 begins its journey to Minmus. Mid-course correction manuever Myatnyy 5 enters the influence of Minmus. Mission control had the idea of getting a picture of Kerbin this far out, as cameras had never actually done that before. We're so busy flying off to other worlds, we never really take the chance to look back at our own. And from this distance, what the probe captures is stunning. There's Kerbin and the Mun, two bodies dwindling in the black abyss of space. If a poet were to see this, we're sure they'd have something profound to say. Unfortunately, we aren't poets. MOI burn Let the mission begin! *** YEAR 1, DAY 401 - ZAKAT 2 Crew: Dzhebediya, Bill Kerbalkind will once again be attempting the impossible. Ever since the first Kerbal looked up at the stars, he dreamed of walking with them, standing along side them. Zakat 2 will attempt to make this dream a reality. With the invention of the inflatable airlock and a pressure suit capable of surviving the world outside of a spacecraft, the CKR will attempt to put a Kerbal on an Extra Vehicular Activity, or EVA. The rocket lifting it will once again be the Nadir KD-3, being the only rocket powerful enough to lift the Zakat spacecraft into orbit. Who will be the Kerbal who steps out of the airlock though? Well, after much consideration, it's decided that Dzheb will be the first Kerbal to step out. Presuming his blood doesn't boil and his eyes don't melt out of their sockets, a new door to the cosmos will be opened. Kerbals will no longer be trapped in the confines of their own spacecraft. They will now be able to move around in space at will. The crew climb into the capsule, and wait for the greatest adventure in space exploration yet. With Zakat 2 now in orbit, the crew now begin to prepare for the spacewalk. The airlock goes under a rigorous testing routine, and Dzheb, with the help of Bill, gets his EVA suit on. After two orbits of Kerbin, the airlock inflates and Jeb steps through the door. While at first blinding, his eyes quickly adjust. He turns around to face the spacecraft, and Bill takes this photo of him: CREW VERBAL LOG DZHEBEDIYA KERMAN: I'm at a loss for words here, mission control. This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! GEN KERMAN: Where sure of it, Dzheb. How are you feeling? Any boiling blood? DZHEBEDIYA KERMAN: None I can feel, Gen! In fact, my blood is the opposite of boiling. This is perhaps the most serene thing ever! GEN KERMAN: Alright, well, we'll give ya a few extra minutes. Enjoy your 8 minutes of free flying, Jeb! Although technically not allowed to do this, given the fact the EVA was supposed to last 5 minutes, the CKR decides not to punish him. Everyone was caught up in the moment, so the government decides to let it slide. If the Premier's alright with it, well, so are we. The 8 minutes passed all to quickly to Jeb, and before he knew it, he had to step back inside the airlock. He took one last look at Kerbin, and then stepped back into the airlock. He describes it as one of the saddest moments of his life. Once Dzheb gets unsuited, he and Bill close up the airlock, and jettison it. Due the pressure suit taking up so much space, the crew will only be able to spend about four days in space. Once the mission time is up, Zakat 2 points its engines retrograde and begins its journey back down to Kerbin's surface. Zakat 2 touches down in the Deserts of Kerbin, carrying with it a legacy that will last for years to come. *** YEAR 1, DAY 411 - MUNA 7 The next generation of landers has arrived. The goal that has been set for Muna 7 is to gain a deeper understanding of the Munar surface. On it are experiments never befire done on the Mun, as well as advanced cameras and comms equipment. Hopefully this lander will also give us insight on technology that could be useful for a crewed Mun landing, which is niow the new goal of the program. How we'll achieve this is still being questioned, but we'll find a way. But before we get too lost in though, we first need to actually land this thing on the Mun. Liftoff! TMI burn Approaching the Mun. MOI burn One issue discovered during the braking burn is that Muna 7's TWR is a little low. While not drastic, mission controllers have been advised to practice caution during landing. De-orbit burn So close... Contact! Muna 7 lands on the Mun without a scratch! It begins its long term experiments, and the data it sends back is tantalizing. The rocks on the Mun tell a story that can't be fully deciphered. At least, not without bringing them back to Kerbin. Yes, talks begin in the Design Bureau about a possible sample return mission. However, such a mission seems risky with the current technological level of the space program. For now, we need to prove just a bit more before bringing back a souvenir from one of these other worlds.- 27 replies
