  1. If I'm going single stage to Tylo, I think I'd be embarrassed to leave any parts behind on Bop or Pol
  2. Fabien will never be alone so long as he has Dark Fabien to keep him company How 'convenient' if they lost the antenna and no one at KSC can talk to 'them' directly... Happy new year!
  3. Assuming you already have the images uploaded to a 3rd party image sharing site like imgur or flickr, just click the "insert other media" box in the bottom right of your post editor and paste in the direct URL to the image. You should see it embed in the post you're writing right away. If you don't have the images uploaded to some image sharing site, you will need to create an account somewhere and do so Note that if you use imgur, there's support for whole albums to be embedded: click the 'i' icon at extreme right of your post editing toolbar, and when prompted paste in the five character unique imgur album identifier. Good luck! In any version of KSP, a successful return from Eve is something to be proud of
  4. Never get tired of seeing those bass-ackwards plane lifters. TRASHCAN looks really amazing--I bet with a few more engine bells you could indeed get it off Kerbin, to Tekto and back, but then again we'd miss the glorious spectacle of your boffins dragging a pair of them into space behind several other trashcans (note lowercase) full of boom.
  5. Hm. Let me see if I can get it all in one post. "Hey @Kuzzter visit [name of moon/planet] next! Really, you should just forget about the narrative you've been carefully building for months now and just go there because lulz! Also to fix that [latest technical problem] you should install [name of part mod] and then let [piloting mod... OK it's Mechjeb] do everything for you. That way [character] and [other character] will be free to make out in the back of the [name of craft]. Since I know you don't do shipping I wrote it for you, in 147 installments which I sent as PMs and why haven't you written back yet to tell me how much you loved it?"
  6. And this is why I'm not going to do a lot of Russian or other Slavic languages here: difficult to get it right when you don't even know the alphabet. Thanks for the lesson!
  7. Generally I would avoid it--if i didn't have to grab cinematic screenshots from different angles with and without HUD right at the most dramatic moments. #thethingsIdoforyou And please don't suggest I let Mechjeb handle the landing. I don't won't use Mechjeb. I consider this a piloting game, and I like to pilot--even if it means crashing sometimes while I take pictures. Youcanuseitifyouwanttoitsnotcheatingbutitisbutlet'snotdiscussthatonthisthreadOK?
  8. OK: And @RandomRyan, of course Google Translate is exactly where I got that word, good to know it works in reverse too I'm going to trust the actual German speakers here when they tell me that such a word is silly and stupid and no one today would ever use it. Just what I wanted!
  9. It should probably be you, I'm already ripping off all the 'real' movies But srsly. SQUAD, PICK ME PICK ME! KERBFLEET: THE MOVIE!
  10. And just to close out the chapter, and update Bill's Big Board: So you'll note a couple of changes besides the Quadhammer and Skimmeroo updates. --new plan is for Quadhammer to do Tylo AND Vall --"classic" lander for the small moons, built under a Mk1-2 capsule. --Longboat is getting smaller. If I can get a good power solution I will just put drills on it to ferry ore to [REDACTED], no ISRU. Power solution could be a lot of RTGs, or else carry enough extra LFO to run fuel cells and still get back to orbit. --Probes: I will probably carry a handful of scansats, not necessarily six (one for each body) if I can have one or two with enough dV to jump around and complete surveys of multiple bodies --Jooldipper: Just starting to think about using something to get low-altitude data. It WILL be uncrewed, and yeah I'll carry at least one spare I suppose I could make an expendable probe and carry enough battery to transmit all the data out before it dies--but I REALLY want to get the full materials bay/goo points so I will attempt to eject from low atmosphere for pickup. I've played ahead quite a bit so we'll launch right into Chapter 3 with the Mun & Minmus shakedown/training cruise. (no interlude... YET!) Enough goofy stuff happened to the Quadhammer and its crew that I think I can keep you entertained despite the somewhat routine destinations
  11. Roger that. Pretty sure that if I have room inside KSS [REDACTED] for the Quadhammer, Skimmeroo, other landers and the Longboat, I can fit a few tons' worth of scansats as well In any case, I'm not going to be bound by any of the various formal rulesets for the Jool-5 challenge (though my intent is to go in a single mission with a ship assembled in LKO, perform ISRU, and have different crew visit each moon) If I do end up qualifying for a badge, fantastic! Just so long as @sdj64 accepts comics pages (showing the occasional resource window) as a valid entry
  12. Well, I did it It was indeed painful, but I did it. A docking klaw also would have worked in stock.
  13. A powered descent (with or without heatshields) is still doable--bring a few thousand dV in the first stage of your lander and burn as needed to keep below the heating redline. Of course you'll then most likely need to refuel on the surface, either with ISRU on the lander or on a support ship you leave behind.
  14. Yay! Just today I was telling my readers Kerbfleet would be delaying install of NOMS until things got a bit more stable. Looks like we are well on the way thanks to your hard work.
  15. Which means the engine has to account for current solar loading, fuel usage, and fuel/energy consumption rate continually while thrusting on rails to see if it does drop below 1%. For example--while timewarping 'on rails', your ship passes into the Mun's shadow. I'm not sure it takes that loss of solar load into account for a ship on rails in the present game, but it'd have to in your system. I know for sure it doesn't take into account the rate of depleting fuel during time warp (or the change in acceleration due to lower mass and constant thrust) because right now you can't deplete fuel during timewarp at all These are not insurmountable problems, but need to be considered.
  16. That's the prototype name--the Tylo landers up until I changed concepts were all called 'Tylo X-whatever' as well, with the intent to choose a more descriptive name later. Quadhammer launched with the tag 'CRB 1' (crewed resource boat). As for the transcriptions, I think the main use was for readers in school who couldn't see images. This will become important again in the new year If I could figure a way to do alt text on the images I might start doing them myself, it's a good idea and a lot of webcomic pros do exactly that.
  17. Really interesting idea. Really, all it asks for is to ignore all "off-rails" physics except thrust, when thrust is small enough that the other physics don't matter. The idea of not allowing a change in thrust except at time 1x would ensure that it's OK to ignore. Also the timewarp should end when crossing an SOI boundary or getting into physics range of any other ship. Some problems to consider though: the ship will consume fuel and therefore lost mass as it travels--also if the ions rely on solar power then you could be in a situation where the ship loses power mid-flight. So, acceleration would not really be constant, and the game engine might have to check for power (and fuel!) which I'm not sure is in the on-rails list. Still, interesting!
  18. It's awesum, but not awesum enough to be Awesum. Good thing he doesn't get to name the [REDACTED]. What wall do you break when you meta-reference breaking a wall? Whoa... So, moving right along: Following the USI-LS thread I can see there are still some issues with time warp etc, so I am going to hold out installing the mod until the last minute so it's as stable as possible. And regarding the mission itself, I realize this book is a bit more haphazard than the last one; I do not have a central narrative (yet) other than "test all the things". But as I mentioned before, if I didn't do this then there would be no Kerbfleet comic at all until I finished all the ships! Am planning to close this chapter soon--we finally have the two hardest 'boats' done. Still to go are the probes, scansats and I think I'll re-do the Longboat to be more of a pure ore miner now that we have the Quadhammer for heavy duty mining and surface ops. Kuzz Jr. is eating cereal and looking over my shoulder--he says "I think this is going to be your finest armada EVER." I hope you all will agree Next chapter will cover the adventures of the Quadhammer Six on their tour of Kerbin's moons. Have played ahead a bit and...it's not as uneventful a cruise as I thought it would be
  19. Nimzo (or any of my Kerbals) would look at that picture and ask "Who would ever need such an enormous cake knife?" But as a collegiate sabre fencer and fan of these guys, I approve
  20. Well, that's the interesting thing about Nimzowitsch. He was a German-speaking Latvian subject of the Russian Empire who escaped the 1917 revolution and became a Danish citizen. So I suppose I could throw in any or all of those accents--if I knew how to do any of them properly, and if we didn't already have a major German character. But as for Enzin Nimzo, I do intend him to be kinda-Russian.I almost called him 'Garry' instead, for Kasparov, but in the end decided I liked the sound of Nimzo better, and tying him to Nimzowitsch lets him represent a bunch of other Eastern European countries all at once. Also,I'm pretty sure I've played 1. ...Nf6 as Black in every Queen's Pawn game for going on 20 years now . However, since I'm not comfortable with doing Russian or other Slavic languages other than throwing in "da" and "nyet" and "wessel" and dropping all the definite articles, I decided to make Nimzo accent-less in Standard Kerblish. Maybe Nimzo is the Slavic version of Mr. Sulu: he represents a general ethnicity spread across a whole region of countries, and speaks the standard language as well or better than any of the 'non-ethnic' characters. And the four aerospikes. And the quadraphonic sound system stuck on a heavy metal channel ever since Sarge 'accidentally' broke off the tuner knob.
  21. I just could't call it the 'Oreworm'. That sounds too much like 'Earworm', and Kerbals don't have obvious ears.
  22. I did consider that. That's... not bad! *runs off to consider various Kerbalized spellings* And people ride on it, so it's like a spice worm--the ore must flow!
