  1. Exactly. This is pretty much what I do IRL. For my whole career I've never been the smartest person in the room, in any technical discipline. But I've quite often been the second or third smartest in EVERY discipline, and can put things together that the smart people can't. Quite often they're too close to the problem to realize that the solution lies in redefining it--challenging the parameters--changing the rules of the game. And THAT's why a Kerbfleet senior officer pulls a shift slinging drinks in the Officers' Club: Leadership! That, and I really didn't want to Kerbalize Whoopi Goldberg. Really these last few pages are an analogue for what I've learned about these craft from others on the Forum. I especially got a lot out of @Mikki's Floatplane To Orbit challenge. And the discussion about power on this thread really helped me to see where I needed to go if I wanted to make a single-stage Tylo lander. The result... well, you'll see
  2. Awww, that wedding was just the greatest! Absolutely loved it. Cheers to the happy couple!
  3. I don't remember how long. But now that i have it I can use it as a starting point build other sets, like...
  4. Normally I like to provide comics the way people take their coffee: daily. But things are getting busy 'round here. I was able to get in some more testing--I believe the Tylo, Laythe and mining/resupply landers are DONE, next step is docking trials but for that I need to build enough of a big ship to dock to. Also, there's this whole Christmas thing coming up. Anyway, here's a teaser: Hm. What can we see here? Six fuel cell arrays, four aerospikes... and a paaaaartridge in a Mk2 caaabbbinnnnnn!!
  5. And it's not fun if I tell either. Regarding a crossover...you mentioned it and you tagged us both enough times for us to notice. We noticed. @Parkaboy stated it "isn't off the table". He's more generous than I am, I won't even say whether there IS a table. But I will acknowledge the possibility of a table. I can't tell you any more without violating General Orders. Now, I would like very much to see this thread to get back to this story and its awesome author. And I have work to do: capital ships don't build themselves. @Kuzzter OUT.
  6. Well, at least the word "holy--" is in there somewhere... BTW I used this tune yesterday to get the kids to smile for the ?!!@# Christmas card photo.
  7. Whoops. Sorry, misread and though container air deploy was the point. I did cut ONE chute, but still had three attached of course
  8. Glad you like the comic--hey, consider the musical score a bilingual bonus! Since you have a piece of the comic in your sig (which i LOVE! Thank you!) I guess you know where to find all the rest of the Kerbfleet comics there are There's a list of chapters in recommended reading order in the OP of each of the prior two books. "Faster, faster!" say the readers. "Arrggghh!" says Kuzzter.
  9. Here's what I did for Eve. Not sure if it met all the parameters of the challenge, but it was a heck of a ride. Imgur album includes air deployment and landing of a 3-kerb crewed rover, that rover's navigation overland to pick u stranded kerbonauts, and a subsequent 75km drive to the ascent ship. Sorry, resource windows not shown in the comic. All stock except KER, no cheats. Recommended music for the drop is Ride of the Valkyries.
  10. "Asking for a friend"... no, seriously, I am about to start testing a large space carrier filled with various landing craft in cargo bays and other contrivances. Before I get going I thought I'd ask the community about their experiences. The landers are going to be relatively large (biggest is over 40 tons) and I know they are going to wobble like crazy during carrier maneuvers if they are only docked at one point-- too many degrees of freedom. The question: since 1.0.5, what have been peoples' experience with any or all of the following: -- simultaneous docking to more than one port, same surface -- simultaneous docking to more than one point, different surfaces (e.g. one on the ship's belly, one axial) -- docking to a port followed by capture at a different point with the docking klaw -- capture at multiple points with two or more docking klaws Am really curious about the klaw solutions: in prior versions klawing was a really great way to get krakkened, and if we're talking about multiple docks involving a klaw, then at some point wouldn't the ship be klawing to itself? Weird. Hope this will be as helpful for others as it will for me. Please help and encourage others by 'upvoting' responses you think are good, on this thread and on others in the Gameplay Questions section. Top responder here may get a comics mention __________________________________ Because of the way things get threaded (or not) in this Forum section, I'm going to add to the OP rather than reply to answers: ETA #1 -- I should have mentioned before -- stock solutions please. KAS, KJR, etc are great mods but I prefer not to use them. QUESTION to @Rocket In My Pocket -- to which orange tank surface was your "rock solid" three-port solution attached? End or side?
  11. Oh yes, I know you meant that--and you were of course correct. I was thinking maybe TopHeavy was referring to the other kind, which would be correct as well. I should have made that more clear, did not mean to dismiss your statement. Everyone's right! Kuzzter loves everyone! But not that way, because Kerbfleet! Whoo!
  12. Good to know. Well, even my civilian candyS knew the difference between a Marine DI and an Army drill sergeant, and Sarge Kerman is neither. As one might expect, though, KSMC is a just little less disciplined than the USMC. So, Sarge will continue to be called Sarge by most of his colleagues... it is his first name, after all. And of course we both know that "permission to speak freely" is not the same thing as "permission to become profoundly insubordinate and disrespect a senior officer in command of the ship you're piloting, even if he is a goldarn engineer who barely understands he's an officer at all". But hey, this is Kerbfleet. If you want real discipline, those guys are over on the other side of Kerbol. ETA: I had to check my own canon file for the spelling--Sarge's actual rank is Sarjint
  13. Exactly. If my purpose in this part were drama, I would have stretched it out a bit and left at least one cliffhanger, like I did with the various crashes on Eve. But the point here was humor, and humor needs to maintain a certain momentum or it fails. Very glad you guys liked this! Originally I was not going to bring Sarge to Jool, I already had too many pilots, but now I don't see how I could possibly leave him behind. Somebody's gotta "work for a living" and keep those idiot officers from [redacted] their [censored] [uh oh] so far up their [here we go again] they'll never [watch it!] another sandwich, as long as they live!
  14. Timewarp would indeed be a problem. Only way I could think to manage it is that each player sets a "timewarp OK" variable, and if all players have the variable set YES then it warps time until somebody says 'stop!' Extending this argument, I can't see multiplayer ever really working outside of LKO. Second problem is grief... all it takes is one or two bad kerbs to lay a wasteland of debris in retrograde 70km orbit over Kerbin's equator. There would have to be a ship called KSS Moderator flying around with super-warp powers able to infract the baddies and restore order. Yeah, I'll stick with single player I think. There's enough voices in my head to continue to make that really interesting for me.
  15. No, I see what @TopHeavy11 is saying and he's right--'from a certain point of view'. Romance really just means deeply emotional. A painting of one guy staring out at the sea can be romantic. In fact, that painting literally is Romantic. If people see the friendships between my characters as romantic, I take it as a compliment. But this isn't my thread. @Parkaboy really nailed these last few pages, we've got tension, drama, maybe a little looming doom for the guilty--I have no idea where he's going but I can't wait to get there!
  16. As I think @Starhawk once sang, "You can lift off any time you want--but you won't orbit Eve!"
  17. Well, that was Mt. Whoopstooshort in the background, so whatever pieces survived will get recovered near 100%, which is 100% more than Mort thought they were going to get--and he didn't have to waste fuel sending a Gliido! I'm as happy as Sarge and Bill are--this was legit dangerous, and there was NO F5/F9. If I had quickloaded I bet I could have landed it--I crashed with 300 m/s left in the tank, quite level, at a speed of about 40 m/s. Ooh rah!
  18. I guess a picture's worth a thousand words, so a post that's a picture with words in it must be worth at least a few rep
  19. I was thinking of leaving you a cliffhanger but nah, you can have all four pages. Funny that @Parkaboy and I both used censor bars this morning. I think I ran out, though, I might have to borrow more from him if Sarge 'speaks freely' again.
  20. Amazing update! Really worried for Glery, LOVE the name Feather Base, REALLY looking forward to your Eve landing, and lolz at the snippet of 'Simon and Kerbfunkel' One of these sols I'll have to follow @Geschosskopf's example and post the 'songs of Kerbfleet'
  21. Brilliant. I'll be singing "rockets we have heard" 'round the tree with the kids for sure.
