In before the lock! Whooo! if the 'natural' state of the planet is one that doesn't support human life, then I guess I'm anti-nature And if we are on a slide toward such a state, I don't really care what % of the problem is due to nature and what % is due to human involvement. I'm more interested in minimizing or eliminating the human contribution to the problem for the sake of my descendants.

No harm done But really, if it comes down to it I'd rather be called an idiot than an non-metric user! i could certainly be wrong about its 'official' use. I can say that within the office where I work, people routinely use 'ton' to mean the metric kind. 'Round these parts, using 'tonne' tends to mark a person as having learned a differently 'coloured' English (looking at you, @Starhawk ) But certainly the different spellings are the best way to differentiate between archaic units and modern, where both are in use. As an American in the minority who thinks hanging on to the USCS system is ridiculous, I long for the day when the 2200lbm 'ton' is forgotten and that word means 1000kg for everybody.

New Forum Known Issues Being Worked On
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in Kerbal Network
Thanks for backing me up KSK It actually just happened again, same thread (Jool Odyssey) I was able to fix by dragging the unwanted quote boxes to after my reply text, then putting the cursor at the end of the text and using Delete. I think the problem is that the editor needs an 'anchor' from which to fire DEL or BKSP, which it doesn't have if the post is nothing but quote boxes. Anyway, whether or not they can be deleted the issue that quote boxes seem to 'recycle' is known, so it's on the list.- 8 replies

No need for name calling. When I say 'ton', I mean one thousand kilograms. In some countries that's a correct spelling.

New Forum Known Issues Being Worked On
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in Kerbal Network
Thanks--well, then either I don't know how to use a computer keyboard (quite possible!) or it was an intermittent issue. @KasperVld, maybe you've seen others post saying "I couldn't delete the stupid quote box so I just typed into it instead?" That seemed like a similar issue to the one I experienced. Will update with link once I can find another example.- 8 replies

New Forum Known Issues Being Worked On
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in Kerbal Network
It doesn't happen every time. But the three blank quote boxes in this post persisted through two prior attempted replies and could not be removed by DEL or backspace. Others have reported the same issue and a mod told me it's being worked.- 8 replies

Hoping this is helpful: I started a thread for the purpose of listing the known Forum issues already being worked on.
-
Thank you. I started a thread to try and save you some keystrokes from the likes of me in the future

I looked for but did not find a thread like this, so I created one. Apologies if I missed an official thread somewhere. The new forums have their advantages and there are still some glitches to be worked out. This thread is to capture the known glitches so that members will know whether an issue they're seeing is already being addressed, so they don't have to report it (and the mods don't have to answer the same question again and again ) This is not a suggestion box for changes to the forum, and calls to revert to vBulletin are most definitely off topic. Also let's not ask for timeframes to resolve these issues. I'd expect the mods and staff are as motivated as any of us would be to get everything running properly as soon as they can. With that in mind, here are the issues I'm aware of that staff or a moderator have said are known and being worked on: 'number of views' count does not update unwanted quote boxes re-appear in editor, some users cannot remove them Members I Follow link (Activity => My Activity Streams => Members I Follow) always returns an error page: I'll do my best to add others as they come in on this thread or as I see them elsewhere. Moderators, please feel free to edit this OP at will to update or correct the list. Thanks for all your work in managing the transition!

Any idea why when I try to reply with quote on my Jool Odyssey thread the editor contains a bunch of empty quote boxes I can type into, but can't get rid of? It's driving me nuts!

Well, I do hope it is the best ever, thanks! So, in examining the evidence I think it's clear that whatever program Bill's using to simulate Tylo incorrectly calculates EC accumulation when time warp is 1000x or greater. Clearly that kind of shenanigans can't work in the real world, so we'll have to design the system differently. Seems to me that the best way to do it is to run fuel cells. Calculating as follows for an ISRU system landed on Tylo: Big drill: needs 15 e/s and produces up to 1.0 ore/s Small ISRU: needs 30 e/s and produces .50 total LFO/s when supplied 2.5 ore/s... so if it gets 1 ore/s it should operate at 40% capacity, using 12 e/s and producing 0.2 LFO/s (yes? I'm not really sure how they work w.r.t. resource consumption when partially supplied with feedstock, and I can't test that right now) So, to provide 27 e/s I could: Crowd on lots of sail panels: at 0.85 per Gigantor, I'd need over 30 of them, massing 9 tons and looking really stupid. RTGs: would need 36 of them at .08t each, totaling 2.88t Fuel cell: would need two of the big ones, massing .48t and consuming (at 27e/36e= 75% load) .067LFO/s out of the 0.2 the system should be making. Option 3 is the lowest mass option by far; its main downside is reducing LFO yield by about 33% which I can deal with--especially since it will be able to run day and night. Not sure exactly how ore concentration will affect this, but if it has power to run at full load then I suppose it doesn't matter too much how long it takes. I mean, it's not like there's something ominous happening in the meantime that could catch up with our heroes while they're waiting around for fuel to get made, right?

Bienvenue, Dominique! I was just in Chartes a few months ago, perhaps we saw each other and didn't realize it? Of course I usually wear a cavalry hat just like in my avatar, but I would have had to take it off inside the cathedral so you would not have recognized me Anyway glad to have you aboard. Well done on your Duna exploration, now other worlds await you!

Why do KSPers dislike shipping (as in the love version)?
Mister Dilsby replied to fredinno's topic in KSP Fan Works
I gave you a more complete answer to that earlier, and there were several others as well. Not sure now whether your purpose was to get your question answered, or to try and convince everyone that shipping kerbals is a good thing. Look, people play this game for all sorts of reasons. People get into fiction for all sorts of reasons. Or, they don't. Me, I'm kind of an old guy. I'm really interested in the relationship between Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, because those are two great characters and there is both human and super-human complexity to what happens between them; their romance is integral to the story. I also play chess. When I open with the Caro-Kann, I don't wonder if my pawn on d5 has something going on with white's e4, and whether my c6 pawn is jealous. Chess isn't that kind of game. For me, writing KSP fiction enhances the adventure. That's why I do it. Others might see KSP more like a chess game. I get that. There are loads of people on this site who aren't interested in my comic or any other fiction and that's OK. And there are those like yourself who like to ship Val and Jeb, or Mort and Gene, or whatever, and that's OK too. There is no storyline. There is no spoon. You build what you want to build, you go where you want to go, you imagine whatever you imagine. -

Hm, Bill will have to run a test in the simulator. As I recall it took about 180 hours to fill the tanks after a landing, but there may have been time warp shenanigans involved. Or maybe a fuel cell. No, I would never call it that. Because the proper name is Kenlistar Awesum. And also I think people like surprises.

Why do KSPers dislike shipping (as in the love version)?

Really good point. If only a certain % of members are at all interested in fanfic, and only some % of those are interested in shipping, then that could be your explanation right there. -
Why do KSPers dislike shipping (as in the love version)?
Mister Dilsby replied to fredinno's topic in KSP Fan Works
Well, sure it is. But I would interpret the OPs question as, "Shipping is a big part of most other scifi/gaming/geekfiction communities I've been a part of, but not this one. Why not?" I'd think you might argue (as would I) that shipping is silly and unnecessary in, say, Final Fantasy -- and yet it happens in that fan community. I do see it in some other fanfic here, but it's not in mine for the reasons I gave earlier. So I think fredinno's question is a fair one--but then again I've written over 500 pages of a Kerbal-themed comic book so I might not be the best person to judge whether something is "unnecessary" -
Fantastic return, Parkaboy! I love everything about the Zonkers, and am going to be watching this with one eye on Melbart and the other on the Evil Overlord list

What's wrong with this ship?
Mister Dilsby replied to JackBush's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Aero forces at launch are much more important than they were in, say. 0.24 which is what that.... thing looks like it was made in My advice is to start with that Mk1 capsule and work your way down, swapping out those wide, flat aerodynamic nightmares and taking advantage of the newer parts to make a nice streamlined ship--you know, something that actually looks like a rocket and not a coathanger with a nozzle. Functionally, all your drag should be at the tail in the form of some nice clean fins--not at the top, where it's going to yank your nose around like pulling the bridle on a horse. Hope that was helpful. Good luck! Start small! Launch! Crash! Learn! -
Well, I don't know about max speed and collision physics as I'm keeping everything under 70 m/s--but I did just seaplane to orbit and back. Pontoon design, Mk2 parts, and now fully qualified as my Laythe lander

Why do KSPers dislike shipping (as in the love version)?
Mister Dilsby replied to fredinno's topic in KSP Fan Works
Kerbals in my fiction (see links in sig) are for the most part guileless, loyal to a fault, and are pretty much constantly awestruck by the universe around them. They have no concept of violence. They have friendships--very strong friendships in the case of Bill and Bob--but in my Kerbalverse none of those relationships are romantic or sexual in nature. We don't even know where new Kerbals come from! (not too surprising for a species that needs to go to space to figure out how to make a ladder) Why? Because, to me, Kerbals are essentially highly intelligent children who happen to be running a space program. When I write for them, I try to write about the best parts of being a child, and those childlike tendencies I'd like to think I still have after 40+ trips around the sun. And it should go without saying that romance--especially its physical expression--has no place in a story about children. -
Here it is! I realized after the fact that I might not have gotten my orbit high enough (my fault for not reading the whole challenge) but anyway I did manage to get this version of the craft off the runway, into the water, out of the water again, into orbit, and safely back to the sea This ship has full RCS capability and a docking port aft. DISCLAIMER: the preceding is not Kerbfleet canon. Any resemblance to Lt Comder Bill Kerman, Lt Kernel Jebediah Kerman or the Laythe X5.1 prototype are purely coincidental.
