Well since it shows dV required for a manuever, and then it shows when you've burned that dV, and it shows before and after fuel amounts, somewhere the math is done. I mean, this type of number crunching work is what computers were designed for. While stage recognition and such will take a bit of ingenuity, the actual math of the rocket equation is fairly straight forward.

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Gargamel replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
So season 5 of Agents of Shield dropped recently on Netflix. It's definitely a binge worthy show, I tried watching it on air during the first season, and lost interest, but binging it, it's pretty good.. I know it's a Marvel super hero universe setting, BUT..... *SPOILERS* Quit reading if you haven't seen season 5 yet, there's a couple 'surprises' that this will ruin, sorta, they're not that hidden. -
I used to play with RT, and I completely forgot that it did that.

Ship stuck to other ship in orbit
Gargamel replied to edwin.robert's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
We're gonna need pics for this one, I think. Mod list, KSP version, logs, etc, too. But first off confirm all your mods are the right version for the KSP version you are playing. Does it still happen after rebooting KSP? Was the station rolling with the shuttle, as if they were still docked, or could you only roll each one individually?- 3 replies

One other comment @etherealconstruct, you are using relay antennas correct? Some antenna's a direct connect only, and some are relays. Relays will talk with everything, but direct antennas will only talk to relays or the ground station. So if your commnet cloud is made up of direct antennas, they will only talk to the ground stations (or other relay antennas out there), nothing will be able to bounce a signal off of them. Seeing how you are doing the math, I'm assuming you know this, but I've made this error, so I figured I'd mention it. Step one of trouble shooting: Did you plug it in? Edit: now I see you did say relay, but I'll leave this here, somebody might use it.

It was royalty free music they slapped in there back in the alpha days, and they just haven't attacked it since. I kinda of consider it iconic KSP music at this point, but I know every one's opinion differs on this. This type of question has always made me wonder what is on their to do list. And at what point will they come to a realization that cludging more code into a working system is harder than starting fresh with a list of features to design for from the start. That is when we will get KSP2. When they want to add features, but can't make it work well. There are so many gameplay mechanics that just don't exist (a point to bases, surface features, more use for planes, weather, interstellar) that I wonder in what version of KSP we will see these things. Well, it already does the math, just in the background, so I don't know how much more it would have to do to bring it to the fore ground.

^ Well, that's just a goofy looking thing. @Rocket In My Pocket, Did you ever misalign the wing on redocking and not realize it till it was too late?
-
You'll just have to try them and see. Some will some won't. Short of each and every modder chiming in this thread, we'll never know. Control of the mods is too dispersed for any one person to answer that question about all of the mods. Let's hope not. See discussion above.

Hayabusa 2 on its way back to earth
Gargamel replied to insert_name's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah, I figured a Jool Jupiter slingshot would be required, I just didn't know if we had any wessel capable of doing this solo.- 211 replies

It should be a toggle-able option, defaulting to off. Some people like to dink, some hate the dink. Don't hate the dink. #bringbackthedink

This is the last thing we need as a community. We already have CKAN, Spacedock, Github, and Curse. All of which do not list ALL of the mods because the some modders refuses to use X because of Y. So let's add another option to further fracture the modding community. I think that's a wonderful idea. Quite a few players do not use Steam.

Conjectural balance pass
Gargamel replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Back in the alpha days, this might have been a good idea. But today, with all the players used to a certain game play mechanic, and all the mods that work based upon the given stats, I think a balancing pass like this will only lead to serious issues that nobody will enjoy. -
Hayabusa 2 on its way back to earth
Gargamel replied to insert_name's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well that's a HUGE difference. I was trying to figure out why they would go there, and how. Do we even have any rockets (et al) capable of a retrograde solar orbit?- 211 replies

While not a koS user (yet, it is installed), I have traded code snippets for other works on other forums, and yes, having syntactically correct posts is a nice feature. This forum engine is an off the shelf-ish engine they purchased. The link to the engine developer is at the very bottom of the page, where you could probably find the info needed to make the requested change. If the koS community could put together a list of what is needed, and hand the forum devs an easy to implement solution, I'd have to guess they'd be all for this.

Hayabusa 2 on its way back to earth
Gargamel replied to insert_name's topic in Science & Spaceflight
IN the one article on the BBC I was reading, I think it stated the target is in a retrograde solar orbit? They kinda glossed over that fact, but to me, that would not make this an ideal target. Have I been misinformed?- 211 replies

plz give me a comprehensive guide to kspi-e's warp drive
Gargamel replied to EndTraveler's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Did you try reading the KSPI-e thread? There should be info there on it. -
B9 areospace
Gargamel replied to mumbo jumbo's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Try asking in the KSPI thread then. There also should be info about this in the OP in the same thread. -
You can balance it by adding fins to the back. Might be a lot of fins, but it'll get you... somewhere. A few players have made retractable wings in stock I believe, but they might be too cumbersome for the average player / ship. Check the spacecraft exchange to see if you can find some.

Not a problem. I'm just old and think that not recent things are recent. Dig through the top few pages of the discussion forum and you'll find it.

The possible future American "space force"
Gargamel replied to vger's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the militarization of space banned by international treaty? Although, And treading lightly on the politics rule here, the current administration has shown their views on international treaties. Someday, it might be needed to weaponize outer space, perhaps local colonial police forces and such, but until then, I don't think moving to space with the military is a good idea, but knowing how the human race thinks, it's probably a forgone eventuality. -
Yes, I believe there is, but I don't have the name of it. KoS, KPRC, MechJeb, and other's having scripting abilities. With some patience, this would fit the bill.

Final frontier mod
Gargamel replied to More_Heat_Shields's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
I think you are looking for a version of FF that runs on an older version of KSP? If your issue is with CKAN, then I'd ask in that thread about getting it fixed, but CKAN should only install the mod version compatible with your version of KSP. -
Staging Changing on Launch Pad
Gargamel replied to reducing's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
While you say "some of your ships", meaning that it's not one ship in particular, double check your design. Mouse over the staging icons in the VAB, and confirm the part that get's highlighted is the part you intend to stage there. Then go to the launch pad and do the same, confirm things are either where you left, or have moved. While most staging or fuel flow bugs are design errors, it could be a weird bug you got. -
I haven't had that issue.
