Help with docking on console
Gargamel replied to Jebediah Kerman Jr.'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Going to page @GrouchyDevotee here, he seems to be one of our resident console gurus, or at least a player that is competent. Now, if you read through the game play questions KSP Discussion forum here, we recently had a very very good thread on tips for docking. That will help a lot, as the theory of docking doesn't change if you are playing console, just the controls do. Give that thread a read, and it should help. -
[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
Gargamel replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
In the KER window editor, under Vessel, are a few Suicide burn readouts. You can add those to the window/Hud of your choice. -
Didn't we just do this last week?

Sooo... My Eve lander is capable of landing. Got that part worked out. It's the returning thing that I need to work on. And that will require a total redesign of the lander. But... What if the kerbals don't have to return just yet? What If I land them this launch window, and then once I figure out how to space, I go back and get them?? Surprisingly, the crew had mixed emotions on this. Early test of 'The Rumbler', Long Term Eve mobile Base: Holds a bunch of Kerbals, crew will be 3 or 4, depending on how my scientists I want to sacrifice send. ISRU in place to refuel the lander if when it arrives. Later versions have a fuel cell and tanks. MK3 science lab, greenhouse for LS, waste recycler, High visibility drivers seat (left side). Note the number of wheels. 16. Remember that number. First Eve entry test: A bit of tumbling occurred. And burning. There was lots of burning. And quite a bit of associated screaming, but that will get scrubbed from the public record. Remember that number? Now count. 5. 5 wheels made it. It's now not so much a mobile base, but a uncomfortably tilted semi fixed base that has a tendency to slide down hills... very slowly. But, everything else went great! While yes I did burn off 11 wheels and the main fixed solar panels, the missions was a successful failure, in that about 90% of my tests passed! Remember how I said it has a tendency to slowly slide down hills? The summit of that hill is maybe 100m above, and the bottom of this very slight grade is about 5-7 linear km away. A couple hours passed of trying to stop the thing from sliding down the hill at .8 m/s, I could kinda steer, but not really. 5/16 wheels makes that difficult, especially in that arrangement and 4 of them broke. I gave up and went to bed. Got up, saw it was close, went to work, got home, and there it was, at the bottom of the hill. Everything else seems to work, just need to work on the balance issues during entry.

And if he's so worried about pop ups and such, tell him to quit looking at certain websites. It's not the KSP mods, I can tell you that. Anybody that paranoid should have better firewall and malware control going. Then you could easily isolate the various suspects and identify the cause. A CD may not pick up a new infection from a computer, but it could certainly spread one if it's already infected...

Honestly, I feel shame that my first reaction was "There's credits?".

Loading a .craft file #Windows Vista
Gargamel replied to Space Army's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
All files should be found under where ever you installed KSP. If you can open them in the game, then they're in there. Although, I might have completely missed what you are asking. A screen shot of your ksp folder and sub folders would help. If all you are seeing is a shortcut to the game, then you probably accidentally moved the entire folder somewhere else. Check the shortcut's properties to see where it's target lies. -
B9 areospace
Gargamel replied to mumbo jumbo's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Most people use the interstellar fuel switch mod. Or any fuel switch mod. There's a few of them out there. -
Probably missing some dependencies. Recheck the list and reinistall the correct version of the dependencies. The thread doesn't show any, but if you are missing a button in the editor, that usually means there's a toolbar mod you're missing. Usually. But your best case is to look in the mod thread to see if anybody else is having the same issues.

Gargamel replied to TheBestJebadiah's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Just wait till you can't dock cause a docking port is on backwards.... -
Station parts reloading at odd angles
Gargamel replied to Tyko's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, I've seen offset parts, in all axis, all the time, it's annoying, but reloading usually fixes it, and if it's not mission critical, I ignore it. But I don't ever recall seeing off angle parts before. I'd reboot the game, and see if it persists. If so, go and edit the persistence file to see if you can fix it. -
Adjustable size fuel tanks
Gargamel replied to ianyikos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This something that should stay solely in the realms of mods, never stock. The game was designed to be a modular rocket ship building game. Having procedural tanks and such completely defeats the drag and drop nature of the intended game. I like me my procedural parts and switchable fuels, but I like them as mods. -
In-ship movement?
Gargamel replied to Duck McFuddle's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
They want IVA EVAs. Be able to move through the ship, in real time, in first person. I would absolutely love to see this. Couple problems with it though, tough, but not unsolvable. One, it would probably require a major rewrite of the existing code. Maybe not, but a lot of effort would be required to make this work. Enough effort that i can see it being part of KSP2 rather than the current version. Two, continuity. Lets say I have a command pod on top of a science lab. I can unbuckle from my seat and drift down into the science lab. This would require the hatches to be open and able to see through them. Now the IVA designers have to account for a multitude of angles to make things look properly. What happens though if there science lab already has two kerbals in it and you want to pass through? But halfway there, you leave the IVA mode, what happens to our extra kerbal? All solvable questions, but they need addressed. And what happens if there is a part (say a heatshield or decoupler, or even a fuel tank) in between our pod and lab? Now they have to render the extended passageway without glitching out. Lots of issues, but I'd love to see it. -
Still running 1.3.1. I'm so ingrained in the old school thinking that every update will break my save, I don't update. I usually wait for the mods to come around before updating anyways. I do have 4.3 and the DLC downloaded, I just haven't unpacked them. I've also found 1.3.1 pretty darn stable too, even with a decently modded game. That said, I had the first bouncy ship bug the other day. Anybody have a link to the no-bouncy-ship-upon-loading mod? I thought I had it bookmarked....

Dust storm on Mars is threatening the Opportunity rover.
Gargamel replied to Scotius's topic in Science & Spaceflight
They are out of focus. Or at least they probably are. It's really hard to tell, sand is quite small. The rest of the photo is in focus, as expected. It's only if you try to focus on the sand on the lens will the rest of the photo go out of focus, if the f stop is low enough (low in this case is below 50). A high enough f stop, and the entire pic would be in focus, sand and all. -

Gargamel replied to Scotius's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Given the amount of dust in the air, I'd guess those aren't stars.... -
So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...
Gargamel replied to Randazzo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Very cute, and funny. But *puts on nit hat*, Pigeons don't need forward speed to take off, they just flap their wings and go. Some birds do run along the ground to take off, but these don't. He's clearly trying to just land. -
Check out MemGraph, it might help out. Or, consider upgrading the machine. Not the most pleasant of choices, but may be the only ultimate solution.
-
We have a 4.3 version?!? ;D "Best" is such a relative term. Best may mean best for your gameplay style, or best for your machine (I know my machine won't like some of more graphical mods). Could also mean the most stable, or the most popular. As for LS, there are complicated ones, not so compicated ones, and simple ones. All of which are basically a resource used over time vs number of Kerbals. How complicated do you want? What do you want to do with it? Snacks is the one I use, for it's fairly simple, but forces me to build bigger and more complicated craft. No more sending a one Kerbal pod to Duna to do a simple flyby. The other common ones are on the tip of my tongue, but I can't think of them right now. Other's will give their suggestions. I'd suggest, while also reading the opinions given here (and they will all be opinions, there is no "best" mod for anything, aside from a very select few that are the only working mods that do a particular thing), check out spacedock, and do a search there for the 3 categories you listed. Look at whats offered, download them, and try them out.

In the numerous other posts we have on this, usually stemming from the EULA, the official word is we are awaiting word from the legal department.

Ahha! Love the user name... Thank you Ford Prefect for getting that edit into the Guide.

Gargamel replied to Xd the great's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Well if you have 50 mods installed, a dozen (worst case scenario) is better than 25 (mean case). -
More/Better Rover Parts
Gargamel replied to Skywalket's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Have you tried building them in the SPH, and then importing them into the VAB? I've found the symmetries to be much easier to work with in the SPH, as a rover is more like a wingless plane that never flies, rather than a rocket. In fact, I think I'll call my next rover the Dodo.
