Or when a mod you use gets an update you want and doesn't work in older versions.
-
I'm a United Statesian, born and raised closer to Vancouver, BC (beautiful city) than Seattle, WA (also a beautiful city). When life happened, I moved to Ohio for a temporary spell that has somehow stretched out to over half of my current lifespan.

I started a Modman config called "Descriptive Descriptions" and even asked for help on it way back when. I got none outside of thumbs up. Then I moved on to other things. I personally still use it, tough it's woefully undone. Feel free to use it, or if there is interest I'll start it up again my own self. https://github.com/5thHorseman/DescriptiveDescriptions/blob/master/DescriptiveDescriptions.cfg (Note: After the main block it says "undone from here on" or something. Then a ways down I have probe cores done. EDIT: Oh, here's the original post, that I couldn't find before.

Nowhere. If I don't want it later, I put it on a trajectory to crash or be tossed out of the system forever. Once it's the latter, I delete it in the tracking station.

Let's Rebalance the Tech Tree
Superfluous J replied to Pthigrivi's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I like the idea. I just wish there was an easy (read: Not editing a huge config file over and over, reloading the game each time to check) way to edit the tech tree so someone could actually try these things. And @regex I agree. I understand having a size limit (the building's too small! Upgrade to get more building!) and a mass limit (the launch pad's too weak! Upgrade to get more heaviness!) but a part limit (Sure we can add this 4-ton fuel tank. But 2 thermometers? ARE YOU INSANE MAN!?) makes 0 sense whatsoever. -
Land-and-return with a Kerbal twice from everywhere. Most places more than that. Countless probes and non-returns to most places too. Least visited are probably Eeloo and Dres, most are probably Minmus, Mun, and Gilly in that order, followed probably by Duna.

missing probes
Superfluous J replied to Avery616's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Are they flying in an atmosphere? If so, getting more than about 22km away they will vanish. Do these probes have probe cores? Something from that first "command" tab in the VAB? If not, they may be being auto-deleted for being trash. If it's neither of these, then I'll need more info. Pictures, if possible, showing as clearly as possible the two craft before recovery. -
I was going to post a picture of the KE-WAITNONOSTOP-01 Unreconstitutionator from the Kethane mod, but can literally find not one single picture of it.

What's the craziest mission you've ever pulled off?
Superfluous J replied to OrbitalBuzzsaw's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Oh I thought of another one. Not really "crazy" per se but I didn't think it would work. I was doing an all-probes hit-every-jool-moon mission, and I had a probe on Bop that had to also go to Pol (or vice versa I never remember which is which or which one I'm on at any given time). My relay ran out of fuel and crashed into Tylo (oops) so I had no direct comms and no way to create maneuver nodes or throttle my engine. I did have a good enough probe core to aim in every direction (radial, normal, -grade, target) so I figured I'd try to fly the probe seat-of-the-pant style from one moon to the other. It turned out to be pretty simple. I had a pretty limited fuel budget but getting between those two moons is pretty light on fuel usage, and the landing was a bit bumpy due to no throttle but I managed to land the probe intact. -
That rocket displays almost none of the typical problems, other than seeming pretty beefy for its payload. The TWR isn't *too* bad really, but it's a shade on the high side for my tastes. Also, terminal velocity really doesn't matter since 1.0 came out. Used to be going over it was super inefficient. These days, if you're not going too fast until you explode. Mostly. Anyway, the first thing I think of is maybe your boosters are stable because they have this nice ring of struts holding them together, and that ring is snapped when you drop the first boosters, revealing an instability. Maybe strut to the center stack instead, or use autostruts to grandparent? I won't be able to do it personally (busy weekend), but someone else may be able to load your craft file and see something more by actually flying it.

How do I aim for an ocean for splashdown?
Superfluous J replied to DerGolgo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've not used it in 6+ months, maybe a year, but it was always spot-on for airless worlds and chronically overshot on aired worlds. But it was predictable and more accurate than the orbit line, so I was able to do it just fine aiming for 1/8 to 1/4 of Kerbin beyond what I wanted. -
Sweet I'm not in the highest bracket for once!

It doesn't? I've not played in quite some time but I feel like it did. -

This is almost literally what the Trajectories mod does. It doesn't allow you to put maneuver nodes down but it will show you with pretty good accuracy where you'll land, taking into account the atmosphere if necesary. -

Also, check out the Trajectories mod. -
How do you get badges below your name?
Superfluous J replied to F3ARSTUNTS's topic in Kerbal Network
Also, even though I've changed my own signature dozens of times I still have to hunt for it. Click your name in the top right of any page, click "Account Settings", then on the left of that page "Signature." Your signature uses the same format as posts do, with a very strict height limit. If what you want to do doesn't fit, you need to change it so it fits. -
I'm usually in LM(un)O by the time 10 whole minutes has gone by.

No. The only way I could think to do it would be to save the game every few seconds, which would be very resource intensive. Better would be an easier way to pick from the already pretty prolific set of automatic quicksaves that the game and some mods make. Say, ctrl-alt-f9 and it brings up a list of all persistent files in your save folder and subfolders, reverse sorted by date. And if course, when you pick one it backs up the current one before restoring

Can we get a single-page start screen?
Superfluous J replied to xtoro's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You said that a mod indicates the game is broken and needs fixed. I'm saying that's not true. For what it's worth I agree with you about the menus. While they're at it, I wish they'd remove the stupid slide in from the side so I could click the menus that I do want to be there quicker. See in particular "quick start" and "quick exit" -
What's the craziest mission you've ever pulled off?
Superfluous J replied to OrbitalBuzzsaw's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My two obvious ones are the Astro-glider (obviously) and my Jool-5 mission. I had it in my head that I'd - in a single mission - return to Kerbin a command pod for every "recoverd a vessel from ...." around Jool. That is: Orbiting Jool, and each of the 5 moons (6 modules) Jool's and Laythe's atmospheres (2 modules) Landed on each of the 5 moons (5 modules) That's 13 command modules, each with a Kerbal. Plus a couple extras for utility work. Each had docking ports so I could mix-and-match reusable spacecraft for the bulk of the mission. I technically completed it, but "orbit around Tylo" superceded many of the other things, so I didn't actually get the credit for my Pol lander having landed on Pol (for instance). -

Can we get a single-page start screen?
Superfluous J replied to xtoro's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If the existence of a mod to change something means it's broken, then the entire game is broken. And not just KSP. Most any game with more than 10 players.
