What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)
Superfluous J replied to a topic in The Lounge
With the release of the Radiant Update, I've been playing a decent amount of Darkest Dungeon recently. -
This is one of my favorite things in the game

Can we talk about Life Support?
Superfluous J replied to Pthigrivi's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I haven't played KSP lately But specifically USI, no. I've not tried it since... some time around 1.0's release. I remember having it and the new atmo at the same time, and not using it for very long though I'll freely admit I don't remember what in particular I did or didn't like about it. -
Precise landings
Superfluous J replied to Lunar Sea's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
NavHud is great for this. It puts a prograde and target (if you targeted the landed base) right on the screen and you can make sure the former is going EXACTLY at the latter. It's not exactly what you want but it does make it a lot easier once you're used to the interface. -
Does the Round-8 count as a 0.625m part? I'm trying to make an Ultimate ship without Xenon, though so far it seems I can't do it Kerbed.

I landed in every (Or every one minus one, I don't recall exactly. I had already landed in a bimoe earlier in that career so could have skipped that biome) years ago. I had an orbiter with tons of fuel and a lander that could get down and back up. I orbited polar and just grabbed every biome one by one. It was quite lucrative. I don't recall if I had *every* experiment but I'd not be surprised if I did.

That was an amazing game and it just reaffirms my long-standing commitment to not stop watching a game due to the score. I'll stop if I have to for other reasons, but never because of the score. FTR I was cheering for the Pats even though I don't have any real reason to and I normally cheer for the underdog when I don't have a reason to. I just generally like Tom Brady because of what he manages to do so often. Which, incidentally, he did tonight. Amazing, amazing game. One I'll be talking about years from now.

How to make interesting satellites...?
Superfluous J replied to SpacedInvader's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Also, we have hinges and telescoping trusses, while Kerbals have only thought to use them on landing gear and ladders. -
After much thought, while I still assert that Minmus first is more efficient, I think @regex states it best when he refers to the KSP system as a "toy" system, and the "more efficient" is marginal due to the fact that - really - both moons are really easy to land on dV wise. A better test would be to be in orbit of Laythe and try to land on both Tylo and Bop. Do you bring the Bop lander with you on the way up and down from Tylo, or the Tylo lander up and down on the way to Bop? I say "Bop first" is better. The Minmus/Mun difference could easily be a scant few m/s, and drown in minor choices made during transfer between the two.

I hate to break it to you, but things are pretty unbalanced in the stock career too I don't use part mods or physics-altering mods, because most of my KSPing ends up on the internet somewhere and I want people to know that if they build my ship in their also-mostly-stock game it'll function similarly. I make exceptions sometimes but when I do, I explicitly state it. I don't use Life Support mods because I personally find it tedious. I am starting to shy away from visual mods because I value load time more than clouds on Kerbin.

You have the same (or similar) dV requirement for the 2 paths, but dV is not fuel. Going to Minmus first saves fuel because it uses less fuel to land and lift the "Mun fuel" on and off of Minmus than it does the "Minmus Fuel" on and off of Mun. The good news here is you don't have to trust anybody. Hack a ship with - say - 5000 m/s of dV in it and a decent TWR into LKO, make a named quicksave, and then do the mission going to Mun first. When you have a periapsis within Kerbin's atmosphere check your dV left over. Then do the same mission, going to Minmus first, and check your dV again when you've got a periapsis within Kerbin's atmosphere. Unless you're doing something blatanty inefficient in the "Minmus first" run, it'll win every time.

Maybe for the name and size, but other than that the two worlds share precious little in traits. Minmus is the outer moon of a terrestrial planet, Mimas the inner of a gas giant. Minmus is green/blue and cannot be made of water ice, Mimas is likely bluish white if it's truly water ice all the way through. Minmus has flats and gentle slopes. Mimas - from that picture - looks like Mun's north pole only all over.

I was thinking more "The Unlovables Challenge"
-
We need a challenge where you have to take micronodes to Dres using only Thuds for propulsion. Simple scoring, just the number of micronodes on Dres when you're done is your score. Maybe minus the number of Thuds you had on the launchpad. Or divided by, so you can try for efficiency instead of raw numbers. I may do this. I've already put too much thought into it.

Actually propellers are more likely to be used off-homeworld than jet engines.

Okay so I discovered something today that - as far as I know - nobody but the person who implemented it knows about. Or I have managed to avoid this loop entirely. But I figured I'd share anyway. If you make a named quicksave on the launchpad before your first hit of the spacebar, when you "revert to launch" it reverts to that quicksave, not to the default launch state. This does not work with a normal quicksave, only a named one. Why is this important? It's not, really. It saves you having to alt-f9 to load that quicksave but it is really nice and convenient. So thanks to whomever added that, whenever it was added.

I made a 16ish tonner just now and got it into LKO and I *THINK* it has the dV to make the run. However I have no idea if my parachuteless, fuelless design will survive re-entry, especially because I don't even have the fuel to slow down upon return from Mun. Assuming I have the fuel to actually return from Mun. I also don't know when I'll be able to actually complete the run.

Relay antennas work the same as direct antennas for the probe they are on. So, if you can relay a signal through a probe, it can also talk directly to Kerbin.

WRONG! I REPLIED INSTEAD! HAHAHA! I may understand this game incorrectly. But let me give it a try... @Tex
