  1. I can't tell what you're implying here. Do you think Squad has access to the data and is just not bothering to put it back up? But they would if it was against a modders' wishes? I work at a pretty big company and - while the answers are a bit nicer and more wordy - that's essentially what we tell the customers. All the time. Do we work together?
  2. I used * because the resource definition has no "name." What should I use instead of *? I thought the options were "put the name there" or "put a * there" so at least the me part of everybody does it for that reason.
  3. I had this crazy idea that involved removing Ore from the game entirely. I tried to do this with a MM config: !GLOBAL_RESOURCE[*]:HAS[ResourceName[Ore]]:FINAL { } And it simply does not work. The ore remains. For reference, this is what appears to be the stock ore definition in "ore.cfg" GLOBAL_RESOURCE { ResourceName = Ore ResourceType = 0 Distribution { PresenceChance = 100 MinAbundance = 1 MaxAbundance = 15 Variance = 50 Dispersal = 3 } } I wrote the code I did based on some comments about deleting parts in this post: I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong (that's almost always what it is) but - as I'm the one doing it wrong - I can't figure out what that wrong thing is. Any ideas?
  4. As is your choice, but that choice has a consequence - you have to deal with whatever the game maker happens to have available. Which in this case is a full download whenever an update comes out.
  5. I totally understand (and as someone who tethers to his cell a lot sympathize with) this. But if the patcher didn't even exist, you may have chosen to purchase from Steam instead. As was said above, patching is (compared to a video game about space flight) a pretty simple thing and it's kind of surprising it's not set up to work. They solved that problem decades ago and companies have been using that solution - mostly unchanged - since then. The only possibility is it's a super-low priority. Which I also understand (and as a computer professional, sympathize with). But if it's not a priority REMOVE IT so people can make informed decisions when purchasing.
  6. I moved to a "flyover state" from the pacific northwest and was shocked to find I had an accent, by people (who I thought I sounded just like) mentioning it. They didn't have accents. They sounded like the people on TV. Except when they said "Oregon" of course.
  7. This 1000x. The problem isn't that it doesn't work. The problem is that it's there at all. Fix it or ditch it.
  8. That moment you send up a nearly-empty-of-fuel rocket to rendezvous with that huge tank of fuel you left in orbit, only to realize that without a probe core it was marked as debris and was deleted.
  9. I understand you are upset but the last thing a new KSP (or any game) player wants to do is install dozens of mods into the game. Modding is something you want to do slowly as you find problems in the game. There are ZERO pathways to success in what you're trying even in the best of times. Every time there's a problem, you'll not know if it's your understanding, a fault in the game, a fault in the mod, the way you installed the mod, an interaction with other mods, or ... well you get the idea.
  10. And a bunch of replies like this one about it
  11. Oh no I didn't try that, sorry. Let me now... I can "unupvote" before hitting refresh but not after. If I upvote a thread and "unupvote" it, I cannot upvote it again until I *DO* refresh the page. This seems consistent across posts and I agree - it makes no sense so sounds buggish. I think it says more about how much we use the upvoting system over (or in this case under) the "Like" system. I personally don't like the upvoting system for answers because it breaks the flow of conversation in a thread in a nonobvious way.
  12. You may have that difficulty setting turned on. Esc, settings, difficulty options (button at the top that nobody knows is a button), somewhere in there. It's a very obvious setting though I don't know the name offhand. If it's on, your probes are dead. If it's off, you can turn SAS on/off, click the "aim at" buttons the probe has access to, and open and close antennas (to get more comms power). So long as the short-range antenna can reach the orbiter with a 1% connection, the lander should be able to talk to Kerbin, regardless of the antenna on the lander. Remember though that ship-ship antennas have less range than ship-kerbin antennas. Not for control. Just for sending science. You will not consume more electricity (unless I'm very wrong about this. It's worth testing). You'll just get less science returns. Hold down shift when you hit enter and you'll get lines like this instead of like this. However, if you hit enter normally, remember you wanted to hit shift-enter so backspace and hit shift-enter, weird things will happen. My advice? Get used the double spacing. It's more pain than it's worth to try to "fix" it.
  13. Pretty much everything that happened in Gravity - aside from "People going into space" would not happen. As a result of an orbital collision or just in general.
  14. I just tested in the "Fun with Trigonometry" thread. I was able to upvote (like) and unupvote (unlike) both the OP and a reply, both before and after reloading the page.
  15. They were probably on rails, so they'd pass right through each other. EDIT: Also: Update: High-Risk Satellite Conjunction passes without Incident
  16. That moment that Bill hitched a ride with Jeb in the ship that was going up to rescue Bob. This was way back when Science Mode was career mode and we only had our own rescue contracts to fulfill. To solve the problem, I kicked Bill out of the capsule somewhere around 7km up. He respawned. For some reason this was perfectly fine in my mind while killing Bob out in space was unthinkable.
  17. In fairness to Squad, it's listed in the "read this first" post on the technical support forum. In fairness to you, it's buried and not suggested as the main place to go. In fairness to Squad, that's so they don't get thousands of garbage bug reports. It's not quotable, so here's a copy/paste: KSP Bug Tracker (If you managed to read this far.) You can find the KSP Bug Tracker here. Please make sure you post your bug report to the forums FIRST. This will help fill in some details and ensure it isn’t a duplicate. Poorly constructed, duplicate, or angry bug reports in the KSP Bug Tracker only serve to side track and slow down fixing of the bugs.
  18. ESC, settings, Difficulty Options (button at top that everybody misses), turn off communications network.
  19. In short: Contracts are things offered to do by the game. Missions are things I want to do. Sometimes those two things are the same and I accept those contracts.
  20. One thought: Could the members who want to keep their threads active start new ones, and then just have them be merged once the backups are restored? I know what it's like to lose data. I do not envy you all this weekend.
  21. Sat-Sat connections need a LOT more dish power than Sat-Kerbin connections. The math is kind of ridiculous so I use the spreadsheet when I need to. 2 sats, each with 3 RA-2's, can communicate with each other when they are less than about 4.5Gm apart. Kerbin orbits at about 13.5Gm so you can talk between antennas when they're about 1/3 of a KSP AU apart. So if they're both orbiting or near the same planet they should talk, but if they're orbiting different ones then it's a no go. Oh and here's a link to that spreadsheet.
  22. Considering the landmasses and seas on Kerbin don't even have official names yet, naming nebulae seems par for the course.
  23. Another vote for OBS. It's got a bit of a learning curve but anybody who can play enough KSP knows how to get over that sort of thing I've paid for FRAPS and Bandicam, and use the free OBS exclusively. I did this once and my computer did a whole bunch of stuff trying to initialize Windows Games or something and I got mad at it (Like I often do when programs try to overstep their bounds) and cancelled it all.
  24. I just disabled it, and I've forgotten what this site looked like without it. In particular, it's less horrible than I remember. I can actually use the site this way. Uninstall'd.
  25. None. I'd convert science to funds but by the time I've toppled the tech tree I'm swimming in so many funds I can't be bothered.
