How to make existing ship "built new"
Superfluous J replied to TinfoilChef's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I would really love to see a picture of your screen in map mode with the contract fully visible, and another picture of the probe in space with (again) the contract and all parts that should complete the contract visible. -
Stock fairings: Procedural or not?
Superfluous J replied to FishInferno's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yeah I'd like to see THAT fly with realistic aerodynamics. -
How have you abused the KSP aero model?
Superfluous J replied to SubzeroSpartan7's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Oh I also have built lots of planes that look exactly like they should fly, that fly in stock. I didn't try all of them in FAR but based on 100% of the planes I *have* built in FAR, I can only assume each and every one of them would have flipped over, nosedived, or done a barrel roll roughly 1-3 seconds into flight. There. That horrible abuse is off my chest. I can move on. -
Scott Manley showcases everything I find wrong with FAR
Superfluous J replied to foxkill2342's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've built planes for stock and I've built planes for FAR. I can honestly say that while I trust all the people who say FAR is easier actually believe that it's true, that's more to do with that I can't seem to find a reason all these people would be lying than any actual proof. It took me a few (Maybe 3-5) tries to make a plane that lifted off in stock, and most of those were due to wheelbarrowing on the runway. In FAR, I've made dozens of planes and followed the popular guides to the letter and STILL can't fly more than 100 meters before my plane spirals or simply nosedives into the ground. FAR is harder, when it comes to planes. It may not be for some of you, but it IS for the rest of us. Just try trusting us like I'm trusting you. We're not lying. -
How to make existing ship "built new"
Superfluous J replied to TinfoilChef's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you want to just complete the contracts, just alt-f12 and complete them. If you want to do them, follow the directions. -
The best thing I can offer is to quicksave in orbit. Then just keep trying. Each failure will teach you something and only take a minute or two. After a half hour, you could have done 10-20 attempts and learned a TON. I actually successfully did my first Mun landing about a half hour after learning that quicksave was a thing. Before that, I almost gave up on the game entirely. After that... well I'm still here

How have you abused the KSP aero model?
Superfluous J replied to SubzeroSpartan7's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Before the Trajectories mod was a thing, I pinpoint landed on Eve's tallest mountain by coming in straight down on it from interplanetary space. That's also how I to this day return to Kerbin from all interplanetary encounters. Just hit Kerbin and be happy. I also had a pretty crazy ship launched for my Jool 5 mission, that I'd have hated to launch in FAR. I don't have any pics but the start of this video is the launch: -
Squadcast Summary (2015-02-14) - The Valenti-nope Edition
Superfluous J replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have a theory. Someone else - possibly a hired Project Consultant/Manager or possibly whoever HarvesteR's boss is - has taken over as active head of planning for the game. Their first decree was that iterative updates is hurting productivity and their subsequent decrees were about how all this other stuff (resources and actually getting data are two in particular) simply NEEDS to be in the game for it to be complete. That, or HarvesteR slipped in the shower and hit his head. -
Squadcast Summary (2015-02-14) - The Valenti-nope Edition
Superfluous J replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Great stuff here. More in here than the devnotes, it seems I totally agree with Maxmaps that turning 45 degrees at 10km "kinds sucks". Wait... that's not what he meant? Airplanes being harder than rockets to build is okay, so long as that aerodynamics helper is easier to use than FAR's. I both love and hate the resource map. Love it because it looks slick and hate it because it doesn't tell me what happens near edge cases. If I land a bit to the left of a green square with nothing to its left, will I have lots of Karbonite mineable stuff or none? And OWK, you da man for doing this every week. Super kudos! -
KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features
Superfluous J replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You should have a link in the OP for each point, to either the announcement or a forum thread discussing it. -
Surprised this died, with how many pet peeves there are out there My current peeve is how the stock tolbar items cover each other or simply won't show becuase something else is up. I like to leave the resources window up which means when I complete a contract, I can't click that little checkmark and get my $0.02 of feel-good-clicky-time. Instead, I have to click the resources button, which mysteriously doesn't make it close. So then I click it again, which (I think) opens it even though it's already open. Then I click it a 3rd time to make it go away, so I can finally click that completed contract checkbox. Then click the resources button which for whatever reason doesn't open it again. Speaking of conracts, I'm going to make this a twofer peeve fest. I hate how in the stock contracts window you can't dismiss a contract once it's complete. It just sits there, mocking you.

Science not cumulative bug
Superfluous J replied to khinzaw's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I think this is a case of mistaken reading on your (OP) part. The screen that shows how much science you got from your mission has, at the bottom, the science gained in small, dark text while the total science you have earned in total is in LARGE, BRIGHT BLUE TEXT So it says something like: science gained this mission: 14.3 TOTAL SCIENCE: 105 This leads you at a glance to think you got 105 science this mission, when in fact you only got 14.3 and your total is now 105. -
If you think I flew that in FAR, you're crazier than I am for even trying it in stock And trust me I've got simple down pat. Every single thing on the plane is necessary just to fly and yes, col is behind com. I just need to watch and read a dozen tutorials and find out exactly what I'm doing wrong. Because whatever it is, I've been doing it wrong since the very first time I ever installed FAR.

[1.3.x] SETI, Unmanned before Manned [Patreon]
Superfluous J replied to Yemo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I started a fresh run on this today with everything all updated it's even better than the very impressive run I had last time. I love the starting contracts and how they actually work and just not having all those parts cluttering up the VAB is a sheer joy. I wish I could fly planes in FAR. Maybe some day I'll complete that "Explore the island runway" contract without using a booster/parachute to get there.- 2,515 replies

I decided to tackle the one last thing I really haven't mastered* and tried to design and fly some planes in FAR. After 2 hours (and countless dead Kerbals) I gave up. *Okay "master" is a strong term. More accurately, it's the one thing I still can't even start to do at all.

Ambient Light Adjustment. I still prefer launching in the day time - - - Updated - - - Why not just time warp the < 3 hours until sunrise?

So are you practicing "Pointy Rockets"?

[1.1.3] FlagRotate - Adjust flag orientation
Superfluous J replied to xEvilReeperx's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Brilliant! The second best solution to this problem there is (the first being not having the problem in the first place). -
The arcane art of flag-planting
Superfluous J replied to Vaporo's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I was a pretty big part of that original thread and I did a lot of testing. If you do the *exact* same thing, the flag will point in the exact same way. However if you do anything different the flag will point a different way. Even just picking up the flag and replanting counts as doing something different. EDIT: Sweet mod! -
I almost always launch at dawn, but not due to any prettiness. By launching at dawn, the entire trip from launchpad to orbit is in daylight.

Should SQUAD post all KSP announcements on the official forum?
Superfluous J replied to Yakuzi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't want all of Maxmaps' tweets posted on the forum. That would get old quick. And this is nothing against Maxmaps. If you're using Twitter correctly, NOBODY's posts should be autocopied to a forum. Here's what I'd like: Maxmaps wants to tell people that dV is coming. He wants to tease it. He makes a post on the forum, then says on Twitter "Hey hey hey, guess what rhymes with Schmelta Schmee?" or whatever, with a link to the forum post. Then he's teasing on Twitter, directing people who may not even know the forums exist to the forums, and telling the people who frequent the forums what's going on. Everybody wins. Except Maxmaps, who can no longer pop off a tweet when he wakes up at 2am to go schmee. -
So are you practicing "Pointy Rockets"?
Superfluous J replied to SpacedCowboy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm not "practicing" it, no. I build the best rocket for the situation, and the situation includes how well it flies given the current models. So, if I'm flying stock, I ignore drag. If I'm flying FAR, I make it pointy. -
I'm having an issue with 1.1. This is the first time I've ever used AutoPruner and it's for SETI. I downloaded all the mods for SETI into a fresh, brand new folder d:\ksp_90_seti All the mods are correclty installed in d:\ksp_90_seti\gamedata I downloaded Autopruner and installed it in d:\ksp_90_seti\PRNLs such that pruner.exe is in d:\ksp_90_seti\PRNLs\pruner.exe along with lots of prnl files. I put the SETI.prnl file into that same drectory. When I run the program, though, it states it couldn't do anything an does not seem to know where my ksp directory is: d:\ksp_90_seti\PRNLs>pruner -prune SETI.prnl Found nothing to prune... ================================================== Pruning files matching SETI.prnl: Squad/SPP/Wings Squad/Parts/Aero/advancedCanard Squad/Parts/Aero/aerodynamicNoseCone Squad/Parts/Aero/protectiveRocketNoseMk7 Squad/Parts/Aero/standardNoseCone Squad/Parts/Aero/standardCanard Squad/Parts/Aero/wingletAV-T1 Squad/Parts/Aero/wingletDeltaDeluxe Squad/Parts/Aero/tailfin Squad/Parts/Electrical/z-200Battery Squad/Parts/Electrical/z-1kBattery Squad/Parts/Electrical/z-4kBattery Squad/Parts/Engine/solidBoosterBACC Squad/Parts/Engine/solidBoosterRT-10 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankJumbo-64 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankOscarB Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT100 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT200 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT400 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankT800 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankToroidal Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankX200-16 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankX200-32 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/fuelTankX200-8 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/RCSFuelTankR1 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/RCSFuelTankR10 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/RCSFuelTankR25 Squad/Parts/FuelTank/RCSTankRadial Squad/Parts/FuelTank/RCStankRadialLong Squad/Parts/FuelTank/xenonTank Squad/Parts/FuelTank/xenonTankRadial Squad/Parts/Mk1/mk1structural.cfg Squad/Parts/Mk1/mk1structural.mu Squad/Parts/Mk1/mk1fuselage.cfg Squad/Parts/Mk1/mk1fuselage.mu Squad/Parts/Mk1/mk1fuselageFuel.mbm Squad/Parts/Structural/adapterSmallMiniShort Squad/Parts/Structural/adapterSmallMiniTall Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerSeparatorTR-18D Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerSeparatorTR-2C Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerSeparatorTR-XL Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerStack2m Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerStackTR-18A Squad/Parts/Utility/decouplerStackTR-2V Squad/Parts/Utility/largeAdapter Squad/Parts/Utility/largeAdapterShort NASAmission/Parts/MassiveSRB NASAmission/Parts/Size3Decoupler NASAmission/Parts/Size3LargeTank NASAmission/Parts/Size3MediumTank NASAmission/Parts/Size3SmallTank NASAmission/Parts/Size3To2Adapter BahaSP/Parts/spotlightTurret BahaSP/Parts/sRadialEngine/part.cfg BahaSP/Parts/trrEngine/part.cfg BahaSP/Parts/retractableEngine/part.cfg DeadlyReentry/Parts/DRE_0625HS.cfg DeadlyReentry/Parts/deadlyReentry_1.25Heatshield DeadlyReentry/Parts/deadlyReentry_3.75Heatshield DeadlyReentry/Parts/UP_decoupler_2/part_1_25M.cfg DeadlyReentry/Parts/UP_decoupler_2/part_2M.cfg DeadlyReentry/Parts/UP_decoupler_2/part_3M.cfg DeadlyReentry/Parts/UP_decoupler_2/part_4m.cfg ProceduralFairings/deprecated StationScience/Parts/StnSciAttachOTron ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportContainers ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportHexCans Proceed (up to 0 files to rename)?
