  1. I hate it. It was pretty and it was lightweight, and I used it always in any simple probe because of that. Now, it's really, really useless: no torque, no SAS. Adding reaction wheels nerfs its lightness. Really, it was the thing that annoyed me most in the 1.0 era (before I discovered the absolutely infuriating random explosions bug in the heating system, that is).
  2. There are some sparse situations where I believe planning the connection would add to gameplay value (to hell with realism if it isn't fun), such as rovers on the far side of some planet or moon. But, then, IRL, rover commands are uploaded in advance and then executed autonomously and painfully slow, so... whatever. I think I will use the new system, but I'm not too passionate about it (or against it, either). After all, even if RT gets very boring after you set the Nth comm network, there's always that critical moment when you don't plan your connections as carefully as you should and you lose connection 30 seconds before touchdown (been there). In my opinion, those moments are great. If stock is going for an abstracted DSN to take away most of the druggery of setting up your first comm, then the adrenaline you get from missing something crucial, or making sure you didn't, might be well worth it. But I'm only having an opinion after it's out and tried.
  3. Neither did I! Thank you for fueling my Google curiosity. I think mine is around 100MB (or MiB, since I'm rounding anyway), but I'll have to check when I get home, so I won't respond right now.
  4. Really? I've never had any problems with it, but then I'm no Whackjob and my designs are fairly simple. - - - Updated - - - Actually, come to think of it, you're absolutely right. I just shows port orientation, the position is still handled by the stock target marker. My bad. It's still a very good mod suggestion, tho.
  5. Pornography as serious study? Cool! My wife had her Master's in Communication (I don't even know if that's a thing in many countries. It's related to publicity and journalism, but... different. I'm from Mathematics, hell if I can explain it!), her subject was Lomo. We're fascinated by these "underground" areas of social interaction, and how in Academia you can find places that will accept them as... I'm sorry, but I keep being distracted by your avatar. The hell? Anyway, (just distracted me again), we're fascinated by how in Academia such subjects can actually be taken seriously. Most people would frown upon such subjects. I don't. - - - Updated - - - Awesome. Iä!
  6. Recently, I added a user to my contacts list, but didn't bother asking for them to add me as a friend. Now, I don't see said contact list anywhere, and their posts don't show up on my profile page. What's the point of the contact list, then? If I want to follow a person's posts, do I need to pester them with a friendship request?
  7. Get Navball docking alignment indicator. It's a shame that the usual answer is "there's a mod for that", alas, that's the case... As explained below, it unfortunately does not solve your problem. It's still a very good mod! Plus, it's a VERY GOOD lightweight mod. Makes docking so easy it's almost boring.
  8. No, no no no. They're from way far out. They came to Kerbin by some portal tech (didn't land, since they haven't been to space or anything). The KSC is the only structure in the planet because it's where the portal is hidden. They haven't even explored that planet, yet. You never get to see the other side, but the portal is there - it's where newly hired and fired kerbals go through. They use the same capsules they fly to space into to cross the portal, because Hyperpace Is A Scary Place. That's why there are stranded Kerbals - teleport mishap left them there. On nearly perfectly circular orbits, because... I need some help here.
  9. Agreed, low circular orbits are better for planning. As for the Mun, there's the good ole' Mun shot, or "Shoot at Munrise and just keep going prograde after gravity turn". It's so easy, a caveman can do it!
  10. Mk1-2 + engine nacelles? RCS in 3x symmetry? WHAT THE HELL?? Anyway, I put my RCS blocks in an X configuration and waste sqrt(2) more monoprop I should, whatever. Ships need only be so small in this game to make it to orbit and across the system, I don't care that much for maneuver fuel efficiency. As for RT relay probes, my go-to design is 3x (even RCS), but just because it's SO PRETTY (and for that size/purpose, I care even less for fuel efficiency).
  11. BSc in Mathematics by University of Brasilia (BR), 2007. Attempted MSc at same university, day job got in the way and I gave up. Still plan on doing it eventually.
  12. If you go the Gregorian way, it's a one day leap year every 10 years, and a minus-one-day leap year every 100 years instead of the leap year which was due. In our calendar, the second cycle (every 100 years) is minus-one-day instead of Kerbin's minus-two-day-cycle; it just cancels with the leap day supposed to happen, so we get an excetional non-leap year (e.g. 1900). Then we (Earth) need an extra one day leap year every 400 years. So 2000 was not just a leap year, but an exception of an exception, and 2100 will not be leap year. Not many people realized that . There's still some round-up leftover, but it's so little that it disappears in the perturbations... Thanks for awesome thread. Wish we could rate threads on all forums... - - - Updated - - - Eh, sorry for the kind of necro. I came here from your signature and didn't realize it was silent for a while... - - - Updated - - - Hey, we CAN rate on this forum! - - - Updated - - - Uh. My math is wrong somewhere. Damn. Will fix it! Fixed!
  13. Based on your own first sentence, the following doesn't make much sense. Take just 1 reading, process it in the lab, then take it out and return it! Besides, 2 repeated readings are a pain in that you need to store them in different containers, so either you have two pods, or you leave some experiments 'unrecycled'.
  14. I first read "Gave up on the planet idea" as "Gave up on that idea", as in, the whole contract pack. Glad I read it again! Anyway, I like the idea of sending the player all the way to Eeloo eventually, if only because the system is ~tiny~. But, IMO, the very final mission should be somewhere around Jool. 2001 for the win! My wife doesn't get my sense of humour too. She didn't like Babylon 5 either, but I smile anytime I see that Garibaldi avatar
  15. So that's what Whack a Kerbal is? I go with the KIS route. You even get to do a useful EVA mission! Chatterer also suggested. Heavy breathing sounds during EVA add so much tension. Quote Homer Simpson, "Steeeady... steeeeeady..."
  16. For that look for Malah's Quick mods, there's a Quick IVA which can: - make IVA the default mode - disable external camera (only IVA camera available) - disable map screen (ONLY IVA indeed) - disable UI in IVA these are optional, I use it just to have IVA be default.
  17. That's what I used to think of PB666, but its reply just made me certain...
  18. The only problem I find with robotic geologists is that they are painfully slow and inefficient. Put a guy up there and he'll do everything Curiosity did in a few days.
  19. WHY can't I rep the same person twice? This is pure gold right here. Erm, no it's not. It's counterintuitive. Which is a word that describes most, if not all, of QED and QCD. I'm a mathematician, not a physicist. I'm no expert in quantum interactions, but I have studied many, many counterintuitive things to know better than to call a notion "nonsense" based on my expectations of the (human-scaled) natural world. Nature simply has no obligation to fulfill your expectations
  20. Sorry to be blunt, but smells of BS to me.
  21. I don't have too much to add to this discussion, but I'd like to point out that, as above, I also believed in them, and am not ashamed of that. Besides, I'm still not convinced it was a scam. Pipe dream, probably; infeasible, most likely; but 'scam' implies deliberate lying for personal profit. Say what you want, I don't believe Bas had such intentions.
  22. Sounds like it. I'm (cautiously) excited about the RT/AntennaRange-lite, but otherwise it's just another update...
  23. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/content/352-Kerbal-Space-Program-1-1-update http://imgur.com/a/NkzMp The Shirley line made me giggle. Edit: *looks at Xyphos' signature* *looks at avatar before him* Rocket Pony?
  24. I'm working one one myself. I'll share it here when it's properly balanced. Thanks for these numbers! I ran some quick tests and got "close enought for my purposes to 1 per day" as results, these are definetely better.
  25. GIGAbytes, yeah, Gigabytes! Corrected above. Rune's point made me happier.
