Wait. It was "paradigms", and regex only used it once. I don't think your +1 reward applies. Using a plural once does not make it a multiple usage. seriously though: I agree with @regex

I've always thought that MJ/KE use or not is definately not a zero sum game anchored around various characteristics of player fulfillment. But threads like these sure do try (again and again) to make it that way. I chuckle when recalling that repeated requests for mod updates have been summarily banned with a somber thought that some day in the future we will arrive at a moment in our joint forum history where repeated attempts to conjoin any mod with "cheating" might also suffer the same fate. Not sure I'm looking forward to that, but won't fight it.

Ah! These words provide a very different impression. Thank you. My sincere apologies, as I obviously interpreted your post in a dramatically opposite context. -

Fair enough. I was editing my original post even as you were posting, just to be clear. However, "up and sideways"? Sure. Also, apologies for attempting to add corrections to a physics discussion in an RSS thread.

I do not want to speak for @NathanKell and I do not, however please consider the following: He and the other devs who contributed so much toward this latest 1.2 update need to enjoy some peace and quiet. They worked their socks off to bring us a really fantastic update to the KSP core. Let them take whatever time they need to do whatever they want for however long they desire. Unless of course you are willing to pay them a good sum of money to make it happen according to your desired timeframes. That said, does Nathan have a donate button anywhere? We can still continue to enjoy RSS and its complement of realism mods in our 1.1.3 saves. It's been years since I opened a physics book, but I do not recall energy ever described like that. I always was under the impression that a fuelled rocket on the launch pad has a large potential energy that is then converted to kinetic energy through combustion. Getting to orbit requires a large amount of just plain energy. "Up" and "sideways" represent vectors, not energy types. Fuelling the rocket stores potential energy, just like pulling on a bow. Burning the fuel "releases the arrow" converting the stored potential energy into the kinetic energy of the rocket in flight. Once in orbit, the rocket has kinetic energy since it is moving, but also retains potential energy relative to the earths surface since it can fall - which would then cover that potential energy back into kinetic. There are obviously other aspects (drag for example) that influence this. Regarding the rest of your post, may I kindly suggest you consult with Tsiolkovsky and get back to us. ;-)

I predict Kerbin will be destroyed by an impact before this mod is updated.

OSX - all settings on high. And the surface of Duna is a patchwork with sunlight shining through the segments - like it was not stitched together properly. Anyone else seeing this? Going to try yet another fresh install...

What Facts Do We Know About The Devs Leaving?
Wallygator replied to Mycroft's topic in KSP1 Discussion
To hopefully close this point and to be explicit in regards to your specific pondering ---> When a policeman draws his weapon on you and points it at your face without saying a word. That is a clear real world example (not a straw man) of tacit communication occurring without a spoken word. Now, to once again reposition this into context with the OP - when squad bungled the reddit/forum/then-not-forum/then-forum-again posting of the devs 'notice to quit' it tacitly communicated that there was no coordination of their messaging - that the comms stream was not under their control. I consider this a characteristic (not a value judgement) of the events as they happened. I agree with you on one point: Squad cannot "win", simply because there is nothing to win, only things to lose. There is no zero-sum game occurring here. Finally, as a bit of constructive feedback: Your style of hyperbolic language is very likely not helping you clearly communicate what you are trying to say (Unless it actually is EXACTLY what you are trying to say). I therefore could choose to interpret your tacit communication (constant hyperbolic language and ping pong postings for example) as an attempt to obfuscate the core (and in my opinion valuable) discussion regarding Squads communications style (which I do not think you're attempting). If may frankly be just the opposite. But this is now a classic example of tacit communications interfering with explicit communications. I sincerely hope this helps not just you but everyone else in the thread as we all try to be clear and explicit in our messaging. No one ever gets it completely right all the time - even me, you and Squad. What @Mycroft has undertaken (and I sincerely commend him for it) is to apply a level of structure surrounding the events and to apply a logical filter to all the various informant elements that have come into existence - to make facts and non-facts as explicit as possible. Nicely done @Mycroft! -
What Facts Do We Know About The Devs Leaving?
Wallygator replied to Mycroft's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Because effective communication can occur regardless of what is or is not said. In this particular example (regarding the combination of devs leaving, a 1.2 announcement and the simultaneous uproar in the community...) it is clear to me (perhaps others as well) that the sequence of events did not occur in a manner characteristic of a controlled information release. This is an observation. I will let @Mycroft decide if it should show up on the OP list. But this "thread within a thread" is as good as done. Let us return to our activity of sorting fact from fiction -

No it is not. But thank you for your excellent example of how to commit a logical fallacy. -
What Facts Do We Know About The Devs Leaving?
Wallygator replied to Mycroft's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I disagree. People want clarity. The 'former devs' left for a reason - yet that reason has not been revealed and likely never will be. This 'drama' leaves a vacuum. Squad has not effectively communicated. They have not done so in the past regarding similar matters, and it is also likely that they will continue the same behaviour. The community will not change its ways either. If an information vacuum is created, then the user community will probably fill the vacuum with whatever entertains them. At some point, squad must either adapt its business model to sustain a competent cadre of devs that the community can grow accustomed to, or it must accept that if it continues its current behaviour then it will continue to invite user community reactions as we currently see. -
I love the fact that this thread is still going. I don't really know why, but i do.

What made you interested in KSP? Hearing about it on boingboing dot net back in 2013. Also having about 3 years of heavy calculus (about 30 years ago) culminating in a general treatment of orbital dynamics left me with a nice taste for KSP What is most rewarding about playing KSP? Making stuff up as I see fit to explore mission profiles and vessel construction to support them. And generally confusing my friends when I tell them about it. Looking back at proposed mission plans from past history that were never undertaken and trying to undertake them. How has the community of KSP affected you? In general it is supportive. A nice place to share thoughts and impressions. I rarely post mission reports. The community provides a first point of news and current events regarding KSP. I rarely check reddit, twitter or other channels. What have you learned from playing KSP? That 'space' is way harder then I every really thought about. Specifically, working the numbers in calculus is really easy, but trying to actually build stuff is so much more challenging. If this kind of simulator was available 30 years ago, my career would have been quite different. What would you tell players just getting involved into this community? Ignore the doom sayers. Don't give up. Mods are your friend. RSS/RO/RF can take you to an entire different level of enjoyment. Buy a computer that can actually run KSP efficiently. Grow your sense of humour. Don't take anything posted too seriously. What is your goal in playing KSP My overall goal is to have fun - that's it. KSP is a lovely tool to calm one's mind regardless of other personal or professional pursuits. I primarily play RSS/RO/RF so I suppose my 'KSP goal' is to stimulate real-world missions. How does KSP play a role in your personal and professional life? It ranks as a hobby only. It gives me something entertaining to do while my wife watches endless reruns of 'Say Yes to the Dress'. (Please, shoot me now!) What is your past in gaming? Board games (since 1972 and even today), miniature gaming, and computer gaming since it started (Alien Space anyone? in the arcade at Cedar Point - dear god that was a long time ago!). I've dabbled in developing computer gaming back when email turn-based formats were the only framework possible. Today I hobby myself on card based reality inspired games. What is your past in rocketry/airplanes if any? Model rocketry back in 1966, home-made propellents, fireworks hacks, and no personal injuries in the process... Favourite Rocket Memory: In 1976... Building the Estes D-engine Saturn V, along with a 'to scale' VAB and R/C operated crawler - Jeeze that was a lot of cardboard!!! and pulling a string to open the VAB doors. I still really enjoy remembering that even 40 years later :-) Estimated time invested into KSP? Well over 2500 hours in game (a conservative approximation both in Steam and non-Steam) It helped that I was fortunate enough to allow myself about 13 months of non-employment, just because I wanted it. Hope all this helps you in your task!

Install RSS and RO. Seriously. Otherwise you're going to get really frustrated. Real fuels and procedural tanks also sets the entire suite of mods in balance. You would be surprised how much burn time and dV you can get out of some small tanks with right fuel and correct engine pairing. Dont give up!

Today Mission: Build a Mun One (base)
Wallygator replied to Deaf3279's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
That's cool! I like your orbital construction prior landing idea. Also the, "YIKES" moment. -
I doubt they will do so. No one created a warrant canary either. 6 months from now we will only remember this event because of someone's signature tag reference.
-
The out growth of the IOT is that every T will have an opinion. That's a good Thing. Also every event has a half-life. Eventually, as with other historical "traumatic" KSP events, all Things will return to a semblance of order within a few weeks.

What Facts Do We Know About The Devs Leaving?
Wallygator replied to Mycroft's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think its best that people decouple anything squad does, rover dude says or the ex dev do following from this event. Everything is likely on its own trajectory at the moment. Things still need to settle out a bit. -
In a parallel universe... I would like to see these former devs sustain their mods and start charging for them if they can - My parallel-universe-self would gladly pay, as some of these dramatically improve enjoyment of KSP - OK admittedly I'm an RSS/RO junkie at the moment so am slightly biased - @NathanKell I hold you responsible for this fever of mine! I do wonder if their NDA prohibits this. More importantly - I can be very patient as I keep my 1.1.3 instance alive and well - likely for a long time. Thank you, kind sir, for adding this lovely bit of info!
