Unless it was a jumpship.

Where is my KSP 'Tin Foil Hat" part mod? Clearly if the departing Devs had any sense of humour or sense of place they would have released such a part mod independently at the same time as their joint announcement. Especially considering how they must already know how the community would react. My Kerbals need to wear this hat while this thread strives toward "peak anti-hype". How exciting. So endith the humorous interlude portion of this thread.

Makes one wonder what level of contempt exists and what level of continued support and development remains for a few of the great mods. Rest In Peace my hopes for a 1.2 RSS? i would hope not.

I find it interesting that the reddit post occurred first (Based on my checking - could be wrong), followed an hour later by the announcement of 1.2 release date, then finally the reposting of the reddit onto the forums an hour after that. Sounds fishy. (Note; If I got the timing wrong due to various systems in various time zones, etc, then I will correct this post - however, the lack of coordination still stands) If this was an organised preplanned departure of a group of contractors, one possible better way to execute this would have been the 1.2 announcement first, followed quickly by the staff announcement which would have been slightly reworded to link very tightly. It is what it is, but I do wonder why it was communicated like it was. Frankly, if squad wants the community to stop wondering if things are screwed up, then they might start thinking about communicating it in a manner that clearly shows that it isn't.

I always enjoy watching a real-life company managed in the classic "Gomez Adams" style. Let's see what happens in the next few months.

(Drops coffee cup) I suppose you have dialup and a windows95 computer as well? ;-) still, keep going! but seriously... you should startup a 1.1.3 instance.

Why weren't the part upgrades included for the old parts?
Wallygator replied to a topic in KSP1 Discussion
Better not bring it up. Many might disagree even if their disagreement may appear unfounded. -
On a macbook? Seriously? Wow, as a macbook user myself, that leaves me impressed. Must have been running in 640X480 windowed. Seriously, I do see a measurable level of performance on my MBP, but not the "3200 part" kind of performance. Faster loading times, not so much crashing (but still a bit), smoother play, slightly faster frame rates - with sub 500 part vessels.
-
It would also be nice to have a recap of exactly how they are to be installed and the correct settings required in a career startup to expose the upgradeability elements. Sorry - It appears the full documentation is available and easily obtained by skimming through the part configs and applying one's understanding of config syntax and KSP coding standards.

Why weren't the part upgrades included for the old parts?
Wallygator replied to a topic in KSP1 Discussion
Fair enough. A reasonable statement. I attribute this all the inadequate planning, insufficient resource and poor communications - all typical of just about any large project at some point in its life-cycle. Still, it makes sense to communicate back our interest, sadness, frustration, etc. in objective critical ways... Just excusing it all because it was too difficult in the last few weeks doesn't cut it in other industries. Also, user/customer complaints and requirements are always unrealistic at some point. Squad should know this already. They appear to be (mostly) grown ups ;-) but they are yet to display (IMO) proficient customer base expectation management. However, I temper this comment with the fact that much (nearly all?) of the team has departed and we have a large cadre of new folks applying their own stamp on the overall development and user community management process. Frankly, I would have preferred Squad to included this very small set of parts in the pre-release, fully integrated. (So what if it took an extra 2 weeks?) Let 'Users" kick the tires and feed back on the intended features with the explicit communicated position that the decision to include, exclude or expand them will be made based on results. I say this because I still have not been able to implement them correctly to experience the "upgradeability" they supposedly exhibit. "Here's a part file with no instruction or background", available to everyone and anyone, expecting usable feedback from the wider-community (people who are not keen on coding or 3d modelling) is weird from my perspective That is not a dig at your above comment (which I feel is constructive), but rather wider attitudes in general. -
I find this fascinating. Looking forward to a graphic representation of the data once sampling is complete. ksp needs (err you/we need) a mod that continually (and automatically in the background) samples such data and outputs it to a .csv EDIT: HA! Sorry I failed to notice your sketches - very nice indeed!!!

Is Spaceflight Inherently Aggressive?
Wallygator replied to Jonfliesgoats's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No. Space flight is not aggressive. It's the politics. If you are looking for a kerbal backstory, then you might consider changing the title of the original post. Hi ever in my opinion, the backstory is really anyone's guess. Which means we can each have our own. My backstory is that they are virtual entities created to obey me, give me a bit of mental respite and provide light entertainment whilst they undertake their quest. (IOW something to enjoy while my spouse watches yet another episode of a bridal wear show in yet another city. ARGH! SPACEBAR NOW!) -

I completely agree with your question. This is a fantastic update (1.2). Really fantastic. The new parts? Fantastic. Not including them? No so fantastic. I do not understand the decision surrounding it. Unless it now remains a development scheme that will no longer be followed internally (sorry that was a guess not theory). At the very least a clear note regarding plans for inclusion. In the other hand we are still on "pre-release so there's that. So on this entire effort I give them a 9 out of 10. That last 1 is because of parts. Include parts in final release and fix remaining bugs... 11 for 10 tl;dr: I also don't know what they are thinking. -

Ok, but just to be clear, my comment regarding 32k textures was actually a bit of snark. I do not need or expect 32k textures. However, if 32k is technically feasible and possible, then I respectfully upgrade my snark to 128k (Oh Yea!)
-
That's pretty cool. Well done!
-
Good luck! Thanks for all your effort. Appreciate your honesty and dedication all along the way.

Two main Menus that actually could easily fit into one. That damnable side scrolling animation! Argh! (Silly) Always having to go to the space centre screen to get anywhere else (Silly) Parts that's cannot accept a surface attaching part onto their surface. (Little) That antenna from the asteroid pack with the useless fold out architecture. (Little) Square-flat-only structural panels (Little) Ageing content (ok that's not silly or little, but it is a little silly) experience? (Silly) classes? (Silly) consoles? (Very little) enough now...

That looks nice. I want it!

I would assume 16k textures would be possible. It would likely require three things: 1) Someone to make them 2) a desktop super-computer to enjoy them 3) a wall-sized retina display as a safeguard. I would therefore up-vote a 32k texture pack just for giggles.

[1.8.x] Monthly Budgets 5.0.1 (22/12/2019) - UP FOR ADOPTION
Wallygator replied to severedsolo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I like where this is going. On my next non-RO/RSS career game I will use this mod. This adds a long needed mechanic and realistic-ish element to game play. IMHO Squad should hire you based on this mod alone ;-) -
Hmmm, based on your acrynom I envisaged a large armored land crawler. Oversized Grandious Rover Experiment (Not to be confused with the late 1970's board game) Regardless, press forward! Eager to see your approach, design and execution.

Must have launched straight up.

So far this rates as the most interesting mission report I've seen this week. It is also the first mission report I've seen all week (just to be clear). EDIT: this space reserved for further comment EDIT2: now I see what you have done . Very nice!

Get that dang space shuttle of my lawn.
Wallygator replied to Maltman's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Over yet under designed, underutilized, budget devouring, no escape, more weather susceptible, heavy and exploration inhibiting. And yes, the most deadly of launch platforms regardless of anyone's math On the plus side it moved money around the country, kept politicians ingratiated with local industry, and nearly destroyed nasa at least twice over to the grins of all small government subscribers. Rockets please. Thank you.
