Bug Noticed During Livestream

Recommended Posts

I was live streaming yesterday with @Majorjim! and @Azimech, when we encountered some interestings bugs as I explored the ocean floors of Kerbin and Laythe.

The biggest one being that there's a strange rendering error where after a certain depth and when zoomed in too much, you can no longer see the sea floor. Squad I was immensely interested in this, so would it be possible to make a hot fix just for this? Because I'm dying to get back in the water and keep exploring. The bug seems to occur past -1080m depth. Both the 3rd person camera and the IVA view cannot see this.

Also, it seems that Laythe's barometer was broken in that it read 60.blahblah rather than what the wiki reads at .600. Just commenting.

If you want to see all this in action for yourself, feel free to here; https://www.twitch.tv/zoonamed/v/100072767 .

Im begging Squad, if you can release a tiny bug fix for this I'd be in debt to you!

It was great to be there mate. And equally so to get those bugs fixed! The ocean floor needs some love. ;.;

I've never gone there but based on my limited knowledge an ocean-bottom expedition a-la Trieste would be incredibly cool, especially since the vehicle as whole was very Kerbalesque (and very reproducer in KSP)

I've just watched some sections of your video and was just itching to tell you that where there's an actual surface at the bottom of the ocean, KER's Altitude (Terrain) readout should be giving a correct value for your distance above it (well, probably the distance of the vessel's CoM above the floor).  Every time you hit the bottom was very close to when KER was reading zero.  When you crashed on Laythe it appears you may have gone through the ocean floor, or else you moved to an area where there was no ocean floor (in this case the readout starts reading a negative value which is depth below the water surface).

Noted. I just want the view to be fixed though.

Indeed.  This bug says it was fixed in 1.2.0.  I note you weren't using my test version of KER so were you using KSP 1.1.3 (I don't remember and can't open the stream again right now to check)?

I don't wanna use 1.2... :(

*sigh* I guess I will... for SCIENCE... But I need Vesselmover, HyperEdit and KER, any of these updated to 1.2?

Bugs need to be reported on the official bug tracker.

EDIT: Just realised you are using 1.1.3 and the bug around the ocean floor was fixed in 1.2.

Do you need it anymore?

Yeah... still doesn't feel right without it. Granted there is autostruts but KJR does that for me unlike stock where I have to paste each of it in.

Well good...

Now can you update 1.2 to use the normal sorting system?

u report bugs in an old version, expect them to get fixed - but u dont want to use the latest version available / another version than 1.1.3 on the other hand.
How do u expect them to be fixed then?

thats... confusing...

You could've searched for it in less time than it took to type that...

or

I highly doubt that. Seems every time I use the forum software search feature it locks up and tosses out an Error 500.

Moved to the appropriate tech support forum.

If you can provide a save file that replicates the bug and a list of mods+versions, that'd be great. The output.log would probably be helpful too.

Dang it. Can we go back? This section's formatting is... frustrating.

We seem to have found the solution. So this should be tossed back to suggestions as I now have a new request; go back to the default sorting function!

I do have a reason to not use the most recent version. Several actually. Not to mention I was unaware of it being fixed.

For crying out loud, it's already been fixed!!!

Again, I was unaware of it by the time this thread was made.

@ZooNamedGames, this is the correct area of the forum for this thread (and you can change it to sort by date or sort by nest answer, if you like), but you can go ahead and start a new suggestion thread with the sorting thing, if you like.

Yes, it was originally a support request but it was pointed out quite early on that it has already been officially reported and fixed in 1.2.  Since then it has been more of an "add-on discussion" than a support request...

Also, surely that suggestion, being about the forum rather than the game, should go in the Kerbal Network forum instead?  However, if you go take a look you will find several threads already complaining about exactly this topic and, as far as I recall, none of them have even been officially answered, let alone acted upon (certainly, the one I posted recently wasn't)...

I made it once and only got hate for the idea. Apparently I'm a grumpy old fart no one likes. It's futile at this point.

I know there is a test version of KER (I've been posting them in the KER thread, currently version 1.1.2.4p).  Also, Hyperedit and an unoffical (though sanctioned) version of VesselMover.

Vessel mover that was done by one of the BDAC team members because @Papa_Joe  has other important things but he's not gone the team still together and I'm pretty sure they're talking the team discussion pm  because I really know how the team works but I'm not going to dig into the details  of what goes on in there  The team member I mentioned was @gomker  but I'm no longer on the team that it was a couple months back before he joined

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
