Those calculators are straight-up dope!

I think my *first* video game experience was with "Granny's Garden" on a "BBC"? Thats a type of early computer right?

Other early game experiences were:

Dune II

Frontier: Elite II

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

Flanker 1.5

Some random sharewares on an IBM 286 running "Conductr" OS with a greyscale monitor.

Then a little later (once we had our own computer):

Quake

Archimedian Dynasty (this one really cemented things, I have real nostalgia for this game)

Total Annihilation

Super EF2000 + F22 ADF

Arcade - Pong

Console - Either Asteroids or Missile Command on the Atari

PC - Descent: Freespace - The Great War.  I still play it every so often.  Even still use the original CDs that the game was released on.  The FS2 engine is open source now and lots of updates have been created over the years for it, as well as mods for updating the graphics, player-made campaigns, etc.

When I saw the OP's first shooter, Impossible Mission came to mind (although not a shooter).  I can't believe you mentioned it.  It was great!  I can still remember trying to jump-flip over those robots!

I had a Commodore Vic-20, games on a cassette tape drive.  I can't really remember what they were.

Commodore 64, I loved playing Summer Games and Test Drive.

Man, that was a long time ago.

I played video games since before I can remember, but of those I do remember, it's something like this (unless specified, these are the original versions of these games):

(For reference, I was born in 1989)

First FPS: Doom
First RTS: Age of Empires
First ARPG: Diablo
First NES Game: Either Legend of Zelda or California Games.  (I don't remember which we had first, since I was about 4 years old at the time, but I have lots of memories from both games).
First Handheld Device: Sega GameGear (yeah, the kind that used 6, yes 6 AA batteries)
First Game on Handheld: I think I had a few games: Lion King, Road Rash, and Ecco.

My parents also told me that we used to have an Atari 2600 (or was it a Commodore 64?) which I may have used maybe once, but I honestly don't remember it.

Also, anyone remember this game?

I think... Zork, at the base rec center on some Apple II? Followed shortly after by random Atari and Coleco games played at friends' houses. I bought an NES with money I saved from mowing lawns (took a good couple of months) which came with Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. When I bought my first 386 I played Syndicate, Ultima 7 Part 2, and SWOTL.

E: Ah, I see the format.

First FPS: Wolfenstein 3D
First RTS: Dune 2
First "Flight Sim": SWOTL
First 4X: Master of Orion
First RPG: Might and Magic 3 or Ultima 7, can't remember.
First Platformer: Super Mario Bros.
First Video Game: Zork
