When using this mod, do you need to have probes on the stages to get parachutes to deploy properly from super high in the atmosphere?

When using this mod, you need to land your stages yourselves. So yes.

Actually, it should also work when the stage will survive the flight back on it's own and the chutes are fired together with the decoupler. The last time I've tried something like this, it was necessary to configure the chutes to deploy in the denser parts of the atmosphere, otherwise they will deploy immediately on stage separation, ignoring the "deploy when safe" setting.

Why do the seperated stages not show up????

I'm not 100% sure, but don't separated stages need to be controllable in order to show up?

Excellent thanks!

@jpinard If you don't intend to control your dropped stages anyway and are just interested in getting them refunded, you might want to try StageRecovery. It will automatically recover stages if you have enough parachutes (or fuel for propulsive landing). No need for a probe core or for chute deployment, as long as you're outside the physics range before the separated stages hit the ground.

This may sound silly, but I just love watching those boosters and aspy stages fall back and land to Earth via parachutes.  So this will not allow me to click them unless I have a probe with electricity attached to the boosters?

Expand

Yes, you need the probecore (and electricity) or the stage will not show up in the FMRS window.

I'm having an issue with FMRS, Stage Recovery and Recovery Controller. I am unable to select the "Recovery Owner" in the VAB, and FMRS does not work in flight. Here's my mod list, in case anything has an adverse interaction with FMRS. I can upload a log file, if needed.

You should ALWAYS upload a log file.  It is almost always needed, so why waste the time posting a message saying that you can upload the file if needed, just upload it immediately.

hey, I recently updated from ksp 1.7.2 to 1.7.3 and suddenly the fmrs window is gone. I don't know how to make it show. i have the latest version and don't know what to do:/

Make sure you've updated the ToolbarController and ClickThroughBlocker as well

Okay, now, I know this mod is for flying your dropped stages back home, but my recent experiments made me think: what if I could use this mod to simulate launching multiple ships simultaneously? I could have few ships connected together as one craft, when I launch first one it would create that savestate as it always does after separation, then after I'm done and safely in orbit, I would go back to second ship, do the same, and after clicking on "return to main mission" It would place both in a place they were supposed to be at the time.

Just curious, if such thing is even possible?

I'm getting a similar problem. Have installed those two through Ckan, and the latest updated/DLC from Squad.

Get the FMRS button in game (not in VAB), but get no actual function from FMRS right now. :(

I used this mod a ton to do SpaceX style flights and re-use. Any ideas on where to start to troubleshoot (I might do a stick game without the squad robotics to see if that is interfering).

Using 64Bit KSP, Windows 7.

Hahahaha. Thanks though for actually taking note of little old me on a computer game (considering how much work programming this stuff must be!).

Hmmmm. It's 1.4 a gig... I may need to check/regenerate/fix it before doing that. XD

Deleted and reloaded the game. This is what I get now:

[edit]

Ah I see click through blocker is not working. Hmmm... Used Ckan... Will see if a manual install works instead.

Seems manually installing click through blocker fixed it (and all my other mods, I worry less about, so did not really realises this was the combined bug/error).

Thanks!

(Yes, you are that good, you fixed it without even seeing the logs! ;) ).

PS, time to SpaceX and Blue Origin it up with the new robotic parts! (The stock re-use now is great, I'm even making custom folding solar, RCS and landing gears to store for entry! :D )

@linuxgurugamer I have my log file from my trimmed-down KSP install I'm using for KK and testing. I'm getting the "Recovery Owner" option in the VAB, but the button does nothing, and the FMRS and SR windows do not show up at all. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a missing dependency.  Make sure that the Toolbar Controller and ClickThroughBlocker are installed and up-to-date

The contracts bug is still there. What's worse - I didn't even use FMRS during this playthrough. It's just installed. I never reverted to any stage. BUT there's another issue - sometimes when I wasn't focused on the ship that I started with and clicked ESC > Space Center it reverted my last flight instead. From what I've been reading here, the contract bug happens when reverting flight. I wanted to go reusable at some point, but had to remove the mod instead. :(

This only happens if you don't close the FMRS Flight Manager GUI before switching to another vessel or even before exiting the game directly from the flight scene. Yes, it's difficult to remember to close it and very annoying.
