VoidSquid
Total extraordinaire vid quality, I know... still, the best vid I could find to get the impression of the very time (or age). At least, the audio is ok.

Lisias
Listening compulsively this one today: Spoiler No, it's not latin. It's probably dog latin :P, but I found someone that says it's ancient Rumanian - and the video above "translated" it to Croatian. In noreni per ipe, In noreni cora; Tira mine per ito, Ne domina. In romine tirmeno, Ne romine to fa, Imaginas per meno per imentira U noći su krenuli U noći su pronasli kroz tešku borbu mnogo toga što nisu očekivali u rimu su borbe i haos nema prijatelja tamo slike tog bogatstva su lažne They set off at night They found it at night through hard struggle a lot which they did not expect in Rome there are struggles and chaos no friends there the images of that wealth are false

StrandedonEarth
I'm not sure why this got stuck in my head. I think it's because of my tendency for alternate lyrics to pop into my head, sometimes original, sometimes from another song. For instance, the lyrics to "Hot Rod Lincoln" (by Commander Cody) fits many songs, probably because it's written in the rhythm of iambic pentameter, like it seems many songs are. But for this one, what pops into my head (some parts fit well, some parts don't) is a 130-y.o. poem by Rudyard Kipling, which I discovered over 30 years ago in English class during a poetry assignment. So here's the song... And then the poem... Spoiler The poem that associates itself with it is Gunga Din. So try this: Here's the song again, cued up to a certain part. Press play and then read the last verse of the poem... (entire poem) GUNGA DIN You may talk o' gin and beer When you're quartered safe out 'ere, An' you're sent to penny-fights an' Aldershot it; But when it comes to slaughter You will do your work on water, An' you'll lick the bloomin' boots of 'im that's got it. Now in Injia's sunny clime, Where I used to spend my time A-servin' of 'Er Majesty the Queen, Of all them black-faced crew The finest man I knew Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din.He was "Din! Din! Din!You limping lump o' brick-dust, Gunga Din!Hi! slippery hitherao!Water, get it! Panee lao![1]You squigy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din." The uniform 'e wore Was nothin' much before, An' rather less than 'arf o' that be'ind, For a piece o' twisty rag An' a goatskin water-bag Was all the field-equipment e' could find. When the sweatin' troop-train lay In a sidin' through the day, Where the 'eat would make your bloomin' eyebrows crawl, We shouted "Harry By!"[2] Till our throats were bricky-dry, Then we wopped 'im 'cause 'e couldn't serve us all.It was "Din! Din! Din!You 'eathen, where the mischief 'ave you been? You put some juldee[3] in itOr I'll marrow[4] you this minuteIf you don't fill up my helmet, Gunga Din! 'E would dot an' carry oneTill the longest day was doneAn' 'e didn't seem to know the use o' fear.If we charged or broke or cut,You could bet your bloomin' nut,'E'd be waitin' fifty paces right flank rear. With 'is mussick[5] on 'is back,'E would skip with our attack,An' watch us till the bugles made "Retire,"An' for all 'is dirty 'ide'E was white, clear white, insideWhen 'e went to tend the wounded under fire!It was "Din! Din! Din!"With the bullets kickin' dust-spots on the green. When the cartridges ran out,You could hear the front-files shout,"Hi! ammunition-mules an' Gunga Din!" I sha'n't forgit the nightWhen I dropped be'ind the fightWith a bullet where my belt plate should 'a' been.I was chokin' mad with thirst,An' the man that spied me firstWas our good old grinnin', gruntin' Gunga Din.'E lifted up my 'ead,An' he plugged me where I bled,An' 'e guv me 'arf-a-pint o' water-green:It was crawlin' and it stunk,But of all the drinks I've drunk,I'm gratefullest to one from Gunga Din.It was "Din! Din! Din!"'Ere's a beggar with a bullet through 'is spleen;'E's chawin' up the ground,An' 'e's kickin' all around:For Gawd's sake git the water, Gunga Din! 'E carried me awayTo where a dooli lay,An' a bullet come an' drilled the beggar clean.'E put me safe inside,An' just before 'e died:"I 'ope you liked your drink," sez Gunga Din.So I'll meet 'im later onAt the place where 'e is gone—Where it's always double drill and no canteen;'E'll be squattin' on the coals,Givin' drink to poor damned souls,An' I'll get a swig in hell from Gunga Din!Yes, Din! Din! Din!You Lazarushian-leather Gunga Din!Though I've belted you and flayed you,By the living Gawd that made you,You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! And here's the video again, cued up to to a spot where actually any verse seems to fit.. But then, the refrain portion of the poem doesn't fit then. But it seems to fit in other places Incidentally, while researching this post I discovered that the poem was was set to music by Jim Croce in 1966: Spoiler It seems my memory of the final words is slightly different from what the 'net pulled up... Though I've beaten and I've flayed ya, By the bleedin' Gawd that made ya, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! Lisias
Hell of a Soundtrack. A shame the first movie is being butchered nowadays before being redistributed but, at least, they are distributing the music intact. Poledouris was a genius.
