Kerbinchaser
I just realized that the engraved name of one of my friends, (who is a SpaceX employee) is hurtling through space at thousands of miles per hour on it's way to Mars. In a car. Wow. Edited April 13, 2019 by Lo Var Lachland
Shpaget
Assuming the availability of Star Trek type replicators that can produce any food your heart may desire out of thin air, obviously without harm to any plant or animal, would steak be a vegan friendly option? Yes, but why forge it? Also they melt it and cast the arrow tips. But why melt obsidian when it's already a glass? Why not cast it from stones? P.S. Do trinitite bullets help against the White Walkers as well? It's not volcanic glass, of course, but the idea is similar. If so, maybe the White Walkers also can be nuked. [A couple minutes of Googling later.] Ah, GoT reference. Don't have HBO, so I've never watched it. I think you might be assuming too much metallurgical know-how on the part of the writers. Most likely they were just sitting around in a staff meeting and said, "What could we have them add to their weapons to make them cool?" How about obsidian?" "Yeah! That would be awesome! It's black!" The Aztecs used obsidian in their weapons. They would knapp smaller pieces to a razor-sharp edge and then embed them into the edges of a wooden club to make essentially a sword without steel. They were quite vicious, IIRC. But much less glamorous than mystically alloying steel and obsidian.
kerbiloid
Just now, TheSaint said: I can't imagine how you would forge it. A smith holds an orange red stick on a forge and beats it with a hammer. As everything around is made of obsidian (tips, swords, axes), probably the stick is, too. 4 minutes ago, TheSaint said: But much less glamorous than mystically alloying steel and obsidian. +
razark
The axe with the huge obsidian dragonglass blade annoyed me.
Shpaget
OI! Guys, no spoilers. I'm waiting for the GRRM to write the damned novels already and would appreciate to not have them spoiled. I realize TV series and the novels have started to diverge, but still... You wouldn't believe how difficult it's to avoid GOT spoilers these days. Even the mainstream media is in on it. Sometimes I read half of a title in a newspaper (or in this case forum post) before realizing it's GOT related. BTW, power went out halfway through me writing this post, so I'm extra grumpy. It only lasted 10 or so seconds, but enough to make me write most of this post twice. Submit before it goes out again.

I Have all the boxed sets, read all the books, but I don't have access to the show live. So let's try to refrain from spoilers in general threads. That, and we have spoiler tags for a reason. And yes, that's my biggest gripe of the day. EDIT: And I thought we were in a different thread Edited April 16, 2019 by Gargamel

The main difference is the origin of yeet power. And how much is left behind. Rockets aren't really yeeting the object, since they push it constantly most of the way there. Non rocket methods, however, are mostly: 1) Get thing going fast while you hold it 2) Release it (YEET) The release part is what constitutes the yeet, since no additional effort is made by the machine. The rocket not only stays attached throughout most of the journey, but may also push it more than once, thus not being a true yeet.
