It appears to have fallen slower than freefall, but ... one of the screwy things about Mars is that freefall isn't anywhere close to what we're used to, so all our perceptions of gravity in videos like that are widely off. That function is crucial in case you accidentally fill your habitat module with a hydrogen-oxygen mix during an attempt to make water from hydrazine.
