KSP2 EA Grand Discussion Thread.

Thanks to everyone at IG and KSP2 for everything you did for the game and the community. You pushed through the hardships until lots of promise showed, and created one of my favorite games of all time.

It may be over for now, but you guys can stand strong behind Jeb knowing you brought something truly great to Kerbal and it's legacy. I've been there since the beginning and showed support and hope until the very end, and what a journey it's been.

I don't know what the future for Kerbal holds, but I can say for certain I am happy with where we are now. Thanks for the memories IG.

Appreciate you guys <3

When it comes to tribute, homage, there is not a lot of room for negativity. Though I definitely cannot read that "[...] you guys can stand strong behind Jeb knowing you brought something truly great to Kerbal and it's legacy". They damaged it so hard that I know more players who stopped playing KSP1 than people who discover the whole license and enjoyed it. Including myself, for dozens of reasons already mentioned way too often.

Now this is time for a tribute and homage and thus I won't go further. I thank the team for the try, for their devotion against a very bad situation, for being part of what could have been the best game for another decade. So yeah, thanks for the tentative. It ended nowhere, but individually you're are not part of the failure, it just happened.

I threw up in my mouth reading this.

They did not push through the hardships, they effed around for more than half a decade and found out.

They did not being something truly great to Kerbal legacy, they barely pushed out a Science update and patch that fixes all the bugs ForScience reintroduced. They found a new low point for KSP2 legacy.

You're in the same place you were in before KSP2 - a working, awesome KSP1 and no KSP2.

It’s fine to be angry at the devs, and to express that anger, but do not take out that anger on fellow community members just because their opinions differ from yours.    Some posts have been removed.

Damn. I came back here after 3 months and did my usual 3-month-pulse check on KSP2. So am I reading and seeing it correctly that KSP2 is effectively dead for now? All devs being fired for now. KSP2 having a 7% recent approval rate on Steam (i.e. 93% of the recent reviews are negative).

Daaaaaamn. It's not like we didn't see it coming from the moment it entered Early Access. Even if some of us were still hopeful until the bitter end and didn't want to see it. It's so sad to see this awesome game being run against the wall and being milked for pennies. :-( I wish I would have been wrong about it and that they would have still pulled if off. I really do! Still playing KSP1 ocassionally because I just love that game concept so much. Oh well, trying to see the positive side here: At least I got my money back from Steam even after 4 weeks after purchase when KSP2 first entered EA. :-/

I seriously hope that this endeavor didn't kill the franchise though. Also, looking forward to whatever HarvesteR is doing next. =)

Depending on the level of Trust you put in Take Two Interactive, this is correct. If you believe them more than you believe your own eyes, then KSP2 will continue to receive updates and the studio has not been closed. If you are more inclined to believe your eyes and the reporting of outside parties looking in, claimed sources etc, then Take Two Interactive axed everyone in Intercept Games and is looking to sell off the entirety of Private Division, the publisher arm KSP2 was under. This is with them also entertaining offers for individual IP's such as KSP2, and everything under the PD label is open to offer, it seems.

Private Division has yet to manage to release both a critical and commercial hit, and instead has a history of middling games with middling sales, or critical hits with commercial failures. With overbudget millstones like KSP2 around their neck, this final outcome isn't hugely surprising. The speed and complete lack of grace by which it has occurred is surprising, along with the deliberate fog of war of pretending absolutely nothing is wrong.

Keep your eyes open

To not have any info about closed studios but a lot about record profits and cost cutting.

I listened in on the last one and was highly disappointed.  I will be on a plane during this one, so I am hoping someone else out here is able to summarize all the bullet points they didn't talk about.

"Record Profits"  I mean, a net profit of negative 2.9 Billion is some sort of record

They cited a net loss of $262m for the quarter, and that number beats most forecasts, and a chunk of that is due to them purchasing Gearbox.

If you want a fun quote, quote "We don't expect any impact to our titles in development." Though that probably goes for NBA2K25 and of course GTA VI.

First they failed the game. Now they lost the net. (Btw, made of platinum or why so expensive?)

Can they ever fish without adventures?

That legacy being a dead IP and (as of writing this) the 39th worst reviewed game on Steam of all time.

I'm not bringing this up to discuss review bombing or to make anyone feel bad about what KSP2 means to them. Everyone has the right to love or hate this game. But, as time allows us to look back we can see that the overall legacy of KSP2 for most people (outside of our tiny circle of die-hard fans) is shaping up to be a cautionary tale for consumers. KSP is now known to most not as a fun space sim game but rather as a symbol of poor practices in the modern gaming industry.

The damage this IP has received from KSP2's development (and the recent lack thereof) can only be harmful. How bad? Time will continue to tell the further we go. But even at the peak of its success KSP was still an indie-level game meant for a niche audience. Add on the "baggage" of KSP2's current reputation, reviews, and the product itself... I just don't see a way any company or player community can redeem KSP2. Blame the publisher, the dev team, the fans - it doesn't matter to me. What does matter is that as the dust has now settled it is clear to see that KSP2 was an overall failure that has greatly hurt the franchise's chances of further existing in the future.

Looking at the larger impact this game has had in the world of video games, KSP2's legacy is one that I strongly resent. (thx for coming to my TED Talk rant)

I think we already know: The franchise went from being the object of a multi million dollar deal with hopes of becoming a mainstream giant (think spinoffs, plushies, nasa integrations, and so on, some of which were already a reality) to literally nobody wanting to buy it. Of course there's the caveat of how much T2 might be asking but whatever they're asking is clearly above the perceived value of the franchise.

I still think the Kerbal IP as a whole has value, if only as a new game in the hands of a new studio and publisher.  However, at this point why bother paying a lot of money for it?  It's value may be positive, but rather low.  I'd just make a spiritual successor to KSP instead, with new emotive characters.  The failure of KSP2 means such a game likely wouldn't even be called a "KSP ripoff", but instead "KSP2 done right".  Sure, it's an easier pitch as KSP3, but only a little easier.  I'd certainly be up for trying any new rocket sim with a build-and-explore loop and a light-hearted tone.
