So, we had some kind of technical problem.

I forget which video says it, but its either the recent ksp2 saved video by obsidianant or the recent video by bellular news that talks about ksp2 that is called ksp cut loose. One of them mentions him near the end. 142701132025

It's that one that had to be removed from Forum due some non-forum-compliant-terms in the tittle! :)

But I found the Reddit entry for it, and it's "forum safe":

Probably so yes. But a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001µm wide sliver of hope exists <...>

I think it's a bit more.

Things will not happen fast, however. Expect months (perhaps more than an year) until something concrete to happen in a perceivable way.

These outages on Forum are not caused by lack of care, it's the other way around - we still have a Forum because there're people working behind the scenes trying to tackle down the problems as the budget allows, and the outages happens when the external actors ends up getting the upper hand for some moments.

For all I had noticed since late 2024, we'd already be dead if there weren't some people looking into this.

Meanwhile a thread about decompiling both games is up and running.

I'm back (fingers crossed) to having no 504s for now today. It's been smooth sailing for the past couple hours.

The irony of this thread is that it's the 404th post in Announcements.

You're not the only one to notice that - did a post on that is Network while it was still displayed proudly as the 1st thing on the forums.

There was a technical glitch in connection with the handover.

So it was that?

I though forum would be dead, because I detected that the DNS entry for forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com.cdn.cloudflare.com was deleted and someone on reddit told me that this happens when the account is terminated.

I will not lie to you - I was terribly saddened by this hypothesis, and I'm very, very, very glad it was not the case.

(had a hell of a night, because Forum going down coincided with some other suspicious events on my Day Job©, and I spent the night monitoring probable... "interesting 3rd party actions". :P )

any ideas what caused it? as far as i know, it was a global thing. did any of the other T2 forums go down at the same time? the primary KSP website was also down at the same time, if that helps.

Looking at membership roles it seems as though a lot of role/permissions changes have happened for groups like ex-KSP2 staff, admins etc. Is this indication that there may be some health in the old dog yet?

Appreciate that if so, you might want to be holding back on an announcement or something.

Haha, I was just about to post wondering if anyone else had managed to get back in yet - I was in the midst of writing a post when the forums went down last night, and upon a refresh was thus stricken with absolute terror, as my first hypothesis, upon seeing the corresponding error, was complete domain deletion or something like that...

Anyway I don't believe I can fully express my elation at the forum's return, since the mood was definitely of mourning around these parts.

i feel like the entire forum community was in the same boat. @Vanamonde, might be time to make a backup for the forums just in case. i'd host it but my computer would probably melt.

pretty sure everyone else who visits often is worried about it going down.

i'm gonna go try to figure out what caused the glitch. we should check to make sure nothing was lost. we don't want a repeat of the Great April Derp of 2013.

ok, best as i can tell, the primary CloudFlare IP for the forums went down, and was switched to a backup IP. it kinda makes sense that it took so long if this the case since the forums are so large.

ok. @Lisias, might be time to think about bringing that backup online, just in case.

It's not my intention to force anyone hand on the matter, being the reason I didn't considered serving the archive online until this moment.

Forum is alive, and that's what matters - and the day I realize that all I managed to accomplish with my backup is wasting time and money, believe me, it will be a very, very happy day in my life. Very few things in life would bring me more joy than realizing I did all if that for nothing!! :D

But if we manage to reach a consensus that it's possible to preemptively publish this material without risking any undesirable consequences on the long run both for Forum and "my" Archives, I will do whatever I can to assist, including with hosting services (as long I would not be the only one - no single point of failures, please).
