  1. I saw your post and started reading some of it. I thought the people on here might enjoy this one as well:
  2. Prepping for Robotic Assistance - Sending Hardware Supplies to the OASS Another successful launch, docking, delivery of goods and destructive reentry of the Cygnus resupply mission CRM 2 occurred in the past week. The mission delivered the necessary equipment needed to prep the station for the upcoming installation of the Kanadarm2 and Dextre robotic manipulators for the proof of concept validation trials set to begin within the next month. Onboard were several truss segments along with the necessary fastners which will be mounted at various points on the station prior to the Shuttle's arrival. The truss segments in question are what the Kanadarm2 and Dextre will use to attach and hold on to the station, along them to move about the station. One the goods had been delivered, the Cygnus module was disconnected and de-orbited sending it to a fiery end. Along with the actual Kanadarm2 and Dextre, Atlantis will also be carrying additional components needed to finalize the installation of the robotic duo. Tests are scheduled to begin soon after installation and preliminary tests have been conducted. KASA wanted to perform these tests on the OASS since it allowed them to validate the robotic capacity while in LKO. The plan, if all goes well, is to use a second set of KA2/Dextre robotic manipulators and send them to a munar orbit, where they will be used to assemble the orbital munar station still in the works. No word yet on when that program is scheduled to takeoff. KASA had received a confirmed increase in budget in order to allow the construction of the Watterson Munar Observatory, but plans for the station had (up to recently) been put on hold. But with more lunar plans discussions occuring, KASA has decided to push and go ahead with the station after all, provided testings of the KA2/Dextre go well. The Kanadarm2 and Dextre combo, courtesy of the Kanadian Space Agency, and manufactured under contract for an amount of 500 million dollar amount, once mounted on the OASS will remain there where it will be able to perform repairs and upgrades to the station. 3. @IgorZ, ah thanks! I did not know it was KIS. I thought for sure it was KAS! But its actually quite realistic what im propsing (not wist respect to the mod, that is). In fact, just look at what the Canadarm2/Dextre did performing the battery swap on the ISS in the last month. That's exactly the sort of functionality I was looking at. Alas... I suppose I was just wondering if there would have been a way to sort of trick the game to thinking that it has a kerbal in EVA but that ''kerbal'' would actually be a part in that situation.
  4. I was just wondering about something. The Utilitron Grabber currently grapples on to stuff by functioning as a magnet, but I am wondering if it wouldn't be possible to have it function more like a docking port (a ''hard'' connection). Basically, I'm trying to go for a Canadarm2 thing where, like an inchworm, it can grapple on to something from one end and then let go from the other and connect somewhere else with that free end, disconnect from the other end (and so on... ) and thus move about. Also, (correct me if I am wrong here) but the magnet functionality does not allow you to then leave the ship, go to another or back to KSC, come back and still have your robotic arm attached, does it? But if it functions like a docking port (hard connection), then it would. You could leave it attached where ever when you're done, go away, and when you come back it'll still be right where you left it. Now I'm not entirely sure if this is feasible or not, but I thought ask about it, see what can be done. Cheers, and thanks so much for your work and this mod!
  5. Well, I can appreciate that setting up a comms network is a little tedious. But for me, my KSP experience is somewhat broken when Im not faced with real world counterpart obstacles. But what you said about uplinking a mission (i.e.: a set of steps/maneuvres to follow) once you have a connection to the rover, than letting it executing, that's perfect! You're bang on on that one.
  6. lol! I know, I know! But I mean if you pull a Curiosity or an Opportunity, and you have no crew in the area, only distant comms, Im assuming that you'll need an uplink to be able to input commands. I read the OP, didnt see anything mentioned about it. :D
  7. So, (im new to this mod) if I understand correctly, this mod does not actively drive your rover but only drives it in the background. Right?
  8. Im assuming you'll still need to have some sort of comms network allowing you to speak to your rover, right?
  9. I just discovered this mod... you're giving me too much to handle all at once!!! I'm bursting at the seems trying to contain my joy! Oh and question... does RT's signal delay affect this mod's behaviour in any way? Cheers!
  10. Wow! Those look GREAT! On a separate note (this is going to sound silly, I know), but is SSTU designed to be compatible with stock game size/perf or RSS size/perf? Cheers mate! Honestly one of the best (if not THE best) parts mod out there.
  11. Just thought I'd share a bit of what I was working on: loving the reworked goods!
  12. Just had a quick question: when changing the sizes of the robotic parts (medium, medium+, large...) does that also change the strength/power they generate?
  13. Robot Duo to the Rescue - the Kanadarm2 and Dextre Say hello to KASA's newest space toys: the Kanadarm2 and Dextre (short for 15 DOF Dextrous Autonomous Robotic Manipulator). Supplied to KASA by the KSA (Kanadian Space Agency) under contract by the manufacturing firm KMDA, KASA hopes that the robotic duo will provide it with what was yet an incomparable capacity to assemble, disassemble and repair orbiting equipment. With plans to potentially build an orbital science facility around the Mun, KASA wanted to find a way to better manipulate cargo and components while in orbit. Previous stations (such as the Orbital Akademy Space Station) were assemble via autonomous drones moving the components to their respective locations. But there was always a level of risk involved that KASA no longer wants to take. With sights firmly set on the Mun and Duna, KASA simply cannot afford any unnecessary risks that could jeopardize mission and crew. The robotic duo is designed to work in tandem with the main component being the Kanadarm2. Dextre is intended to be a dextrous extension to the Kanadarm2 that can be docked and undocked when ever its services are needed, or its task completed. KASA successfully completed, what is now considered a hallmark mission, the servicing of the Hubble Deep Space Telescope using the Shuttle's Kanadarm, the predecessor to the Kanadarm2, not too long ago. That mission marked the first time the Shuttle's robotic manipulator figured as the central piece to a mission's success. KSA feels confident, as does its manufacturer KMDA, as well as KASA that this system will usher in new age of on orbit servicing capabilities. P.S.: Dextre V2 screenshots at end of post P.S. preview: Dextre V2 - Improved design, mobility and capacity. Now with 18 DoF!
  14. So, if I understand correctly what happened (and I think I do, I've had the same happen before) what happens is when you load your game without all of the necessary (part) mods (i.e.: mods that have parts in them) and you have active vessels that are using some of those (now missing) parts, the game will not be able to load those vessels and basically ''deletes'' them from your roster of active vessels (you would have gotten a message as soon as you reached KSC telling you which vessels failed to load). If you ''ok'' the message and continue, you have basically confirming the removing of those vessels. To prevent this, you have 2 options: 1- when you reach KSC and you get that message telling you such and such a vessel was not loaded, DO NOT click ''ok', but hard close the game (atl-F4). This will prevent your vessels with missing parts from being removed from the roster of active vessels, 2- DO NOT load the game without all (part) mods being present where you have active vessels that are using some of those parts. To remedy this, you have again, two options: 1- hyperedit your crafts back in place, 2- substitute your save files with the latest backups.
  15. You have use the ''Insert other media -> insert image from URL'', which means either you create an Imgur album or whatever, dump your pics in there first and then use the individual screenshot url and use what I just specified.
  16. Don't worry about scaling the science benefits. We're way ahead of you on this...
  17. Dont think I shared this here before (its not a probe but a crewed vessel), but I honestly think its some of my nicest work:
  18. Could we then simply implement an option to toggle it? Everybody gets what they want!
  19. First I heard of it. Speaking of which, what are the planned updates/changes in 0.6?
