Yes, I meant to say marked/rated as up to date. I chose the wrong phasing then.

Spaceplane to orbit with air breathing engines.
JadeOfMaar replied to RavenpawKSP's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Whiplashes die at about 1200m/s (give or take 100) and 17km altitude. So this challenge requires the masterful, controlled use of ancient krakens? I'm sorry dude but with criteria like this, this thread needs to be closed. -

[v1.3] The Gold Standard - Minable Gold and Unobtainium for profit!
JadeOfMaar replied to Dewar's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
@DStaal @Phoenix Nebula Outside of the contracts and thing, these alternate materials would be good for one thing I can think of... submarines. Stock Ore is a poor ballast. Use one heavy metal to anchor your ship to the sea floor and mine the next metal if it's present there. Is this prototype of yours still alive? I've had a similar idea: to harvest water through stock air intakes and enable the ISRU to run electrolysis and produce fuels. I've had a fair deal of practice exploring the versatility of Karbonite. I haven't figured out the intake part but the other things, maybe I can help out with. -
@The-Doctor I cheated it there just for fun, but its dry mass is only 100 tons. It wouldn't be much trouble to deploy it through SimpleConstruction (gives EPL features to stock parts). But if I use Ground Construction I can send the whole thing over in a big box, and the local crew will build it out from the box. But that's a lot of weight to send to a planet as far out as Dres with near-Laythe gravity. Due to how the nodes are setup, I attach the dome glass first to the airlock then hold Alt while placing the floor so it attaches properly (stack) to the dome. Otherwise I radially attach the floor to the airlock and then offset it way back out, then hold Alt while placing the dome. @Thrimm May I ping you by the way? Given the floor's attach nodes are only on one side can I ask you to change the color of the opposite side? I built my base in SPH and not knowing heads from tails made for a good few wasted moves placing things on the floors.

I love spaceplanes too, so be sure that there are more options than usual for them when you start your career. You might want to check the GPP flags too. It looks like you'll be wearing the Grand Tour Silver (every world except Catullus) at some point. Or your end-game can be to build a restaurant at the edge of Galileo's universe and avoid having to wait decades or centuries for a transfer window back from there. Get some experience, then! (Please) They're so awesome to have and to make.

totm may 2024 [1.12.x] - Modular Kolonization System (MKS)
JadeOfMaar replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Okay, the oceanic extractor is supposed to be this way because it's firstly about water, hence Karbonite is a tiny or "unintended" bonus? Like gunk that typically gradually collects but is actually quite useful? Not a problem. I'm among Galileo's folks and I know what needs to be done so that config file is already there and makes for 1/3 of the awesome. I'll be sure to ping you for help for something/anything else. -
Today I tested the waters (literally) with surface base design. I designed and deployed an actual floating mining base. In addition to the new Reefs biome coming to Gael in the GPP update, this is my provision for adding value to "Kerbal Sea Programs," moreover, Gaelian Sea Programs. (This aspect is already available to GPP users). That absolute 1% efficiency situation very badly needs to be answered and dealt with. I'm going to try to write a buff for that. Later, I dropped a version with stock drills instead of ocean pumps on Gratian and simply had some fun with it, EVA and the sandstorms. Jeb was very happy to participate in this development. Val wasn't very spunky today and stayed very near the cabins.

No spaces in any names inside of GameData. Flag images must be inside a "Flags" folder. Also be case-sensitive because it matters on Mac and Linux (and is easy on the eyes). You should have GameData\CustomContent\Flags\MyEpicFlag.png

This isn't the glass fortress I promised a few months ago, but it's close. I built this today (with more stuff but then I made a trimmed down version, this). With 3 more large domes and several tanks, including procedural ones, it simulated readiness for TAC LS storage and SimpleConstruction integration. This one is the "smalltown" and merely a fuel cache and medium outpost. The open pads need docking ports or KAS connectors for craft parked on them. ... Jebediah's ignoring the yellow alert.

[KSP 1.12.1+] Galileo's Planet Pack [v1.6.6] [23 Sept 2021]
JadeOfMaar replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I experimented with ocean bases earlier today and have been thinking about how miserable Ore is as a ballast. I can't get around to it now but it'd really be nice to have a fuel switch config to add the LeadBallast resource to stock or procedural tanks. I will try to make one. While you're making submarines, make ocean bases too and dock with them. Refuel while you swim. The only worthwhile stock planet to try this on is Eve, but any Galilean planet will allow viable ocean bases. (Of course, this requires Karbonite to be installed as well.)- 7,372 replies

totm may 2024 [1.12.x] - Modular Kolonization System (MKS)
JadeOfMaar replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Howdy. I currently only install Karbonite and I'm wondering if a condition needs to be met to allow the ventral ocean harvester part to operate at full (or at least higher) efficiency for karbonite. It tends to only ever draw 1% of the rated karbonite value for an ocean. In Galileo's Planet Pack, the oceans are intended to be karbonated™ somewhat like real oceans are salinated to make this particular part useful. Is it nerfed due to reality-based constraints on an water filter? Am I doing it right by installing several of these to get a decent input rate? -
Beautify KSP - What mods do you use?
JadeOfMaar replied to KryoWorks's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Basically all of these. Also add Texture Replacer (specifically, the RangeMachine alt that works in KSP 1.2) and your favorite choice of skybox (universe background) if the stock universe background gets no pardon. -
New challenge- New career-Gameplay mod recommendations
JadeOfMaar replied to Noel32's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I'd like to recommend not all of USI, but Karbonite for use with TAC LS. It is an incredibly versatile alternative to Ore for fuel processing; its parts even let you grab Water from oceans, and refine Water, Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen from Karbonite on the fly. -
After everyone's suggestions have been taken, scroll up or down in the flag selection window in game depending on the name of your new folder. Flags are grouped alphabetically by mod folder name. Example, USI Flags appear way up top in that window because they're in the "000_USITools" folder and numbered folders are read before letters. I'd like to ask my own flag question while I'm here. Is there a code or syntax to make KSP not load a flag? I've made over a dozen flags for a solar system mod and they're practically completely hidden because there are simply so many stock flags.
-
Procedural Parts is your best bet. It isn't officially rated but does work just fine with current KSP. If you want to recolor the entire tank in the process this is the way to go. If you merely want a flag on the side, look-up the Decal Stickers mod... Even use these two together.

Merely opened KSP.... Between experiment shenanigans of my own making and of @Galileo for the ever-coming GPP update, my probe found itself orbiting in atmosphere and taking 39 gees of force. Sometimes you just gotta sit back and watch the thing burn. I was ready to see Jeb magically die again too. He's not far at all from that probe.

Spaceplane to orbit with air breathing engines.
JadeOfMaar replied to RavenpawKSP's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That's exactly right. I know my mod parts well to use them together and to "orbit" for brief periods in atmosphere. Interestingly, I have a spaceplane than can get an SOI change while still in atmosphere but I've never sent it to Mun. It doesn't have the TWR for landing in vacuum.
