Ooh, we might have Starship SN6 hopping and Electron returning to flight on the same day!
-
Perhaps also make sure that yaw, pitch and roll on the control surfaces is definitely enabled?

Mass simulator! Also, I reckon this is the last level of the high bay before they put the roof on... -

Actually, they said the static fire would happen on the 24th, but brought it forward a day due to weather -

Static fire replay! Let's hope that the hop goes as planned on the 28th. -
@Pie Guy Maybe try using the Mk1 inline cockpit with a nosecone on the front.

R.A.R.V. (Ridiculous Atmospheric Reentry Vehicle)

@Tyr Anasazi It's not ridiculous if it works as intended Good work! -
Adding helicopter blades to StarshipX

For Mars a combination of aerobraking and retropropulsion is best. For a vehicle as big as Starship landing on Mars, a parachute would have to be like a kilometre across, and that's just impractical. -
@Askerad I saw a couple of these tracks on youtube a while back, these are amazing! Looking forward to installing this and listening to your great music

Adding helicopter blades to StarshipX
RealKerbal3x replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I don't really think a rotary rocket would have any advantages over a propulsively landing rocket anywhere. Perhaps on a planet with a very thick atmosphere, but parachutes or simply a drag-based descent like Starship is using would still probably be a more practical solution. As @.50calBMG, there's a reason why Roton was cancelled. -
Try changing the command pod's control point to 'docking', then the fins should actuate fully.

Adding helicopter blades to StarshipX
RealKerbal3x replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
@Spacescifi Starship isn't an SSTO, it uses a reusable booster to reach orbit. (also, it's SpaceX Starship not StarshipX) Anyway, what advantage would enormous helicopter blades have over the engines? They'd be draggy and hard to protect during launch/re-entry and useless dead weight in every situation other than final landing. I'm pretty sure they'll sort out the tile and leg damage soon anyway, the damage was mostly due to SN5 having to rotate quickly back to vertical as it was flying on an off-centre engine. -

NSF stream of static fire attempt, going live soon: Edit: Tank farm is now venting. Edit 2: Vehicle now venting! Edit 3: Looks like SN6 detanking, they may have aborted. Edit 3.5: There are still 8 hours in the window, so it's possible that this is simply a recycle. Edit 4: Cars to the pad. Probably an abort for now. -
I sent a probe on its way to Moho, for the first time both in this save and for my entire time playing KSP! Launch aboard my standard reusable launch vehicle. This thing is a workhorse, and, incidentally, way overpowered for this payload. Moho transfer burn. Thanks to the dismal TWR of NERVAs, this burn took over 7 minutes. Though that was made up for in efficiency - this vessel packs a punch with almost 6km/s of dV fully fuelled. It should have no problem with the >2km/s insertion burn at Moho. In fact, this is such a capable probe design that I plan to send slightly modified variants to Dres, Jool and potentially Eeloo. Inside the fairing structure I've also included a rover with a skycrane - I intend to land it on Moho and glean science from a few biomes. Let's hope this mission goes to plan - it has a course correction coming up in 26 in-game days, and it'll arrive in around 140 days.

Nothing beats the daily sound of the wind, reverse beepers, people hitting things with hammers and the construction of a giant launch pad! Let's hope we see a SN6 static fire today! -

I made this rocket motor in Wings 3D. I plan to make it into a proper KSP mod part at some point. It's not very detailed (though I plan to change that) and I'm only learning 3D modelling at the moment so it's probably not that good, but can anyone guess what it's meant to be? 100 nerd points up for grabs

I can't wait to see SN8 fully assembled, that'll be amazing! And the launch pad is still a launch pad, and not a water tower. -
