KSP2 Release Notes

I think they'll start about where they started with KSP1. KSP is basic concept-level rocket science that they need to sell to kids and adults alike. They will want to give you the tools (parts) you need to succeed in getting to space right off the bat (and orbit later), both to give the feeling of a win early on and a compelling reason to keep up the struggle of learning a difficult subject. Struggling against poor tech is realistic but not fun for most people. The challenge of figuring it out with good tech is enough for beginners. Most of the sales will be to "novices," not dedicated fans. Some want more realism: There's RSS/RO for that. It has its moments, but sometimes it's too much work after a long day at work. Also, they don't want people refunding because it's too hard in the refund window. Just pat them along to space for two hours so that's out of the way.

Devs insight about KSP2 bug (© ShadowZone)
TLTay replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I'm reading that they were unable to fix the unity particle problem having to do with speed (trail of puffs from KSP1) and decided to go with mesh effects instead. Also reading better aero is a distinct possibility. -
If you think we've got it bad waiting another year, think of what the mods will have to deal with in that timeframe.
-
I appreciate the personal video message. This at least gives me one thing to look forward to over the next year.

In 4 days, we'll find out if KSP2 is as well.

You know what, I was looking at tbe wrong slide... If it's really delayed till 2024... I would not be shocked, sadly. At that point it really risks getting cancelled.
-
It's definitely fake. Some bozo put games released in previous years on the future releases slide. Pft.

I still remember the feeling that I had when I saw this post for the first time... We'll look fondly back on those feelings when it releases in late 2023. (I'm just being sarcastic, don't light me on fire.)

I get the sentiment, but some really like updates. It's the most engaging thing about indie games. I remember following the original Kerbal blog before it was available to download at all, before you could pay for it, and way before it was on steam or officially released. I miss that engagement... Oh well, at least waiting for KSP2 has provided something to look forward to these last 2 years.

Kerbal sprinting punctuated by the occasional faceplant or trip. Faster travel the Kerbal way. -
Unity 2021 LTS brings KSP2 closer to release
TLTay replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Not sure clickbait applies. It'd be nice if the planets looked like that, but I'm always reminded that they're designing this game with PS4 compatibility in mind. I think it'll look good, but not that good, sadly. It's more a reflection of the constraints in hardware, time, and money than designer skill. I'm sure there'll be scatterer2 or something... -
Unity 2021 LTS brings KSP2 closer to release
TLTay replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Probably porting KSP2 to this (didn't this unity edition just release this month?) would take another delay. Not super interested in another delay just to port it over, much less to redo all the effects they've already done with the new stuff. If they don't call something good enough at some point, they will eternally be upgrading an unfinished and unreleased game. -
Unity 2021 LTS brings KSP2 closer to release

Looks great. Is there any indication they are using this? The clouds and atmospheric scattering posts from the dev team both credited a named individual or team of people for the work, but made no mention of tools used. -
I haven't really played Kebal since the KSP2 announce (I'm abstaining, it was only supposed to be six months or so). I'm occasionally struck by the uncomfortable idea that what I enjoy might be the fond memories of better times playing a game I loved, and that if my current gaming habits hold for KSP2, I will have spent far more time anticipating release on this forum than I will actually playing the game. It's a sad thought, so I'll go have some ice cream. It's sad that it has to be 100% before release, I really loved the engagement that early Kerbal had with fans. Every release was a new present.

KSP: "Not Planning to be at PAX East this year"
TLTay replied to DrCHIVES's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Yes. This. Very much this. I want to earn the views of the new planets. -
All I saw was the ESRB logo. Where is this showing up for you?

After the recent video talking about neat things they're planning on adding and hoping to kill the kracken... feels like if it was about to be released it wouldn't be a plan and they'd have already done all the key stuff (And have stable physics at the very least). Couple that with the fact that T2 hasn't narrowed the release window beyond a one year period like they have with literally EVERY OTHER game they plan on releasing this year... Not looking or feeling good for 2022.

I think it'll be okay. I get the impression that Nate and Tom at the very least seem to actually care about the franchise and the product that is released, which is more than can be said for the people designing many games. I think it's in good hands, it's just been unfortunately delayed due to circumstances. Besides, compare the videos from 2019 to the current product and tell me it's not at least much prettier now. I'm sure they've been putting that kind of effort into everything else, too. All is well.
