Okay, we get it. Several of you think the game is over-reacting to profanity. But since Squad could get into legal trouble about it, how about we all just accept it as an annoying fact of life, move on, stop talking about it, stop asking for examples of it, and stop linking to examples of it? Please?

The Moderation Nation Space Program
Vanamonde replied to TheKosmonaut's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
DuoDex was bugging me to run a mission so he could make a patch for it. Anyway... Bill and Bob were feeling left out. "Why should those glory hound pilots get all the, well, glory?" So since they could not fly themselves to space, not being pilots, they made a robotic probe. A contract was offered to gather science from Mun, but they weren't sure their ship could do that, so they sent it to Minmus instead, without a contract. And so probe Landfall 1 was launched. (Note the remaining fuel.) After gathering science from a mat bay, goo pod, barometer, and thermometer from the surface and goo pod, thermo and baro from near-Minmus space, the return stage detached with all the science. And flew back to Kerbin. Where the mission garnered 482.5 science. Some clear shots of the ship in case Duo needs them for the patch. The lower end of the probe remains on Minmus as a marker to show which biomes have already been visited. I normally leave a thermometer on the lower stage as well for later "science from the surface of" contracts, but forgot this time. The end.- 218 replies

How to head in specific direction when landed ?
Vanamonde replied to Shingen's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My clunky solution is to zoom out on map view, align the camera so I'm looking past my craft at the destination, note which stars are in that part of the sky, then go back to main view and look for those stars, then drive toward them. Yeah, it's low-tech. -
Non-technical explanation: nitpickers, please don't bother complaining that I'm mis-using the word "heavy," that photons actually behave as if they have a tiny bit of mass, and that sort of thing. I am trying to keep this as simple as possible. To make an object go faster, you have to push it. The object now has more energy, but something we do not encounter in the everyday world is that energy itself has a tiny bit of bulk to it, so that when you add energy to the object, it actually behaves as if it is heavier. We do not notice it because the effect is so tiny, but when you put A LOT of energy into the motion of an object, the effect becomes apparent. What happens when you push a heavier object? It doesn't move as much, right? So as you keep making the object go faster and faster, it behaves as if it is heavier and heavier. You may start off pushing a grain of dust to reach light speed, but as it gets closer to that speed, it starts to respond as if it's as heavy as a baseball, then as heavy as a bowling ball, then like a car, a building, a mountain, etc. You can just keep pushing it and making it go faster, but it responds less every time. Due to some very complex math which, to be honest, I do not entirely understand, the result is that ALL THE ENERGY IN UNIVERSE would still not be enough to make that original grain of dust reach light speed. Only things which had no mass to start with, like photons, can be pushed hard enough to reach light speed, because if they're mass is zero, anything multiplying that zero mass still results in zero mass. And if you can't make something reach light speed, you certainly can't make something go beyond it, either. Science fiction stories come up with all kinds of ways to get around this rule, but they're based on speculation rather than knowledge, and nobody knows of any way to do it for real.

[SOLVED] Modded Install
Vanamonde replied to Jagrov's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Hi Jagrov. I'm one of the moderators here. I'm afraid we had to remove the log file from your post, because those are so large that they cause page loading problems on our forum. Please upload the file to a sharing site and copy the link they provide into your post here. And good luck with your issue. -
little and bad evidence for a massive claim is what this is

Please stop mocking the question, guys. @Abstract_Kerman, I see you believe the thread is now pointless. Would you like it closed? -
The Moderation Nation Space Program
Vanamonde replied to TheKosmonaut's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Mission director: "Jebediah Kerman, your mission, should you decide to accept it, and we know you will because you've never turned down anything we've asked you to do and done many things we've told you not to do as well, will be to take this specially and badly designed ship, The Omnibus, haul two tourists on a suborbital hop, and haul two more tourists on an orbital hop And rescue Tesen Kerman from orbit. And then rescue Dafel Kerman from orbit, also. Then return them all safely to Kerbin. Oh, and collect some science while you're there. Anything will do, even if we already have it. Do you accept? Jeb? Jeb? Do you accept?" Jeb: "Yeah, it's done." Mission director: "Oh, okay then. Did you have any trouble?" Jeb: "Well, the first rescue went fine, but I was running pretty low on fuel by the second, so I had to stop quite some distance away and hope Dafel could cross the gap and find the rescue ship in the dark. There were some tense moments there. But it worked out. Also, there was the problem that the only way to attach the crew cabins prevented them from being fitted with heatshields, so I set the ship on a rotisserie roll during re-entry. And by 'rotisserie roll,' I mean, 'violent random tumble which threatened to kill the crew and rip the ship apart.' But it turned out okay as well." Mission director: "And so you accomplished all five mission objectives for this launch?" Jeb: "Yes, and netted ??? after the cost of the ship, plus the value of the recovered parts, and minus the price of expanding the Mission Control building." Mission director: "Cool."- 218 replies

Wich real life rockets do you think look kerbal

Since this is about real spacecraft instead of those in the game, the thread has been moved to Spaceflight. -
We wouldn't want forum members advertising businesses or services. There's enough spam on the internet already. Nor would we want you fold bugging each other for money. But charitable things, as long as you are not profiting from it yourself, are probably alright. As this one seems to be.

Until the last 15 or so years, it was common for movies to use any tanks they could access and just slap WW2 paint on them. Nowadays they try to add fake parts to make functioning tanks look like the historical ones, but that is quite recent. Many of us grew up watching Patton tanks show up as Wehrmacht badguys, and that sort of thing.

I think Kerbart has a point. I would not like the content to be influenced by the party which contributed the most money.

Dr. A will keep you busy for a while. He wrote over 400 books, and less than half of them were fiction. Some of the info in them is out of date now, but he has a very clear writing style that makes complex subjects easy to understand. I've read a fair number of them, myself. And welcome to the forum.

Since this is more about someone's dream than the game, the thread has been moved to the Lounge. Also, please don't mock each other's posting styles, and just be glad to have others to share our KSP enthusiasm with.

Religious discussions never end well on this forum, which is why we've had to rule the subject off-limits. Please stay clear of that. -

Who spends a lot of game time staring at the KSC buildings anyway? And as the first tier, they would all have been replaced as soon as possible on top of that. I suspect that if they had just put those buildings in without showing them ahead of time, no one would have cared and this controversy would never have arisen in the first place.

Fairings are over-rated. With enough thrust and control authority, you can fly anything anywhere.
