KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
And impressive! Amazing work there. Also impressive! Any trip to Eve where you come back is a win in book, but you actually made it look ... well no it still looks hard. Also, you're in 2nd place all-time and leading the pack of people who have not finished. And you are also the 2nd to ever get the coveted "To Do" list in the leaderboard, because it's shorter to list what you have NOT done, than what you HAVE done. Did you do it unmodded? I've marked you as that for now but if you were modded, you won't count as Caveman, because you couldn't submit that save to the Caveman thread. -
KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well done! My only recent update is that I installed Kopernicus so I could delete Moho, not just from this save but from the game entirely and forever. No, not really, but I did realize that I do truly hate playing without the mods that I just thought I hated playing the game without. Nice to know I was right. I'm installing KER again, for dV in flight. I'm also installing KAC, Precise Node, NavHud, and the Transfer Window Planner. And maybe even a few others that I happen to notice along the way. And yes, I'm going to keep playing this from my "KSP_Stockish" directory and pretend this is stock. ish. -
You seem to have mistaken a set of feature requests as a list of additions to the game.

KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
This makes me happy. I finally got to all worlds during my Kerpollo series on YouTube. Like @jonny, I always got caught up in the running of a space program and never got around to playing the game In Kerpollo, I set the goal to land on and return from every single world I could, and I refused to quit until I had done it. Part of the reason I started this challenge is because I wanted a reason to do that again -
KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Ouch! Also, tied you for 2nd place! Because that would cause you less work. See? It DOES exist! I don't envy you that, but hope roving Moho will make the effort worth it! -
Sorry I've been pretty lax lately. I do not know if this works in 1.3. It did work fine in the last version of 1.2 though. It should work with custom tech trees, in that all the parts will have contracts and the trees will be chopped down and used for firewood (i.e., the trees themselves will be not useful at all). It will not work with custom categories, as I wrote a config for each category. I don't recall if I wrote a config for "everything else" but think I may have. To add support, look at the config for any category. Utility is pretty generic, and Engines shows some custom pricing based on things like Isp.

I just realised the Mun has been renamed
Superfluous J replied to 2204happy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I see no problem thinking that the Kerbals would call all satellites "Muns" and the one "Mun" that they knew from ancient times is "The Mun" And I have pronounced it exactly like I pronounce "Moon" since day one, and refuse to believe that any other pronunciation exists. -
KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Welcome back and well done! It's nice to remove that "A" from your flags list. -
considering the modern Minecraft console ports are still (severely) limited in world size, I'd assume that KSP would still have a limit. 300 isn't that bad really.

KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm feeling the same. I've stopped taking contracts and am just raking in the World First cash and science. If I feel I need any science, I'll set up a lab around Minmus but this challenge doesn't actually mention the tech tree at all, so if I don't fill it out no bigs. I had you down for an Eve landing already, and also for the Moho return though I think that was just my poor bookkeeping because that would have been 7 points and I had you down for 6 points. So I think you got 1 more point here, for the Moho return. If I'm wrong let me know. Cool beans. Thanks for confirming -

Welcome to the group! What are Kopernicus and Modular Flight Integrator for? They look like they themselves don't alter gameplay, but allow you to potentially alter gameplay with them. -
Well that was a strangely prophetic way I worded that. But anyway. I stand behind what I said in this very thread half a year ago:

KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge

Wonderful job! And congrats on your permanent residence at the top of the leaderboard! Unless I split it between participants and winners, in which case you'll be at the top of the winner list. Ouch. If you want to continue you could edit your save file and enable reverts. I'll have to remove that "H" tag but at least you'll still be able to play! In any case, thanks for giving my little challenge a try and thanks for bringing a bit of an extra challenge to it. I'll keep you on the list until someone shoves you off the bottom. -
What was your first screen shot on KSP
Superfluous J replied to kerbinorbiter's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Here's my post on the thread @HebaruSan linked to: And the image. It's from July 2013, so it's from about a month after I started playing. -

Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Very well done! That's 2 more points than I'd be willing to try for under your constraints. Note: Your Duna mission has caused me to solidify the rules for "returned from." I've updated the first post with the following: There are two valid ways to return from a world: 1) Bring a part of a ship that was on the surface of the planet back to Kerbin and recover it. 2) Bring a Kerbal who was in a ship that was on the surface of the planet back to Kerbin and recover him or her. -
Is it safe to assume that your KSP install is in "d:\kerbal space program" ? What folder is EditorTime installed into? I just checked out the zip install on GitHub, and if you installed it correctly it should be (assuming the above) in the folder it says it thinks it should be in. Scratch that. PluginData doesn't exist in the zip. I apologize.

KSP Caveman Evolved Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I think you did too. I also think that perhaps when I switched from putting (stock) and (modded) in there to having flags S and M and whatnot, I accidentally marked you as M. I've fixed that. I also noticed that you did a basic caveman AND a Jool 5, so I've added the C tag to you. -
This looks really cool. I've liked procedural tanks but have never liked the interface. Tools like this could propel proceduralness (a.k.a. procedurality) to the next level.

I did good, and got 3 unlocks in 2 missions. Dres is done and Moho is... well... it's Moho. -
I click the VAB. 90% of my rocket design is done in the VAB. The other 10 is in flight.

My station turns into spaghetti?
Superfluous J replied to CoreI's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
Yes, though they're not as strong so they may not cause the problem. -
These are correct. To be specific, if you double click the sun (or tab until it's the focus) in the Tracking Station OR in Map Mode (it works the same in both), then all Sun-centric orbits will show up. In the Tracking Station, you see all of them whether you've accepted them or not. In Map Mode, you only see those orbits for contracts you've accepted.

My station turns into spaghetti?
Superfluous J replied to CoreI's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
The problem is reaction wheels. Turn them off. ALL of them, except maybe one or two nearest whatever the control part is. Or, leave SAS off. This happens because reaction wheels (and RCS jets) don't know where they are in relation to the control part, or how they're aimed. They assume they are perfectly in line. Also, while in a perfectly rigid system it doesn't matter where reaction wheels are, in a bendy one like your station they can introduce local torque that turns the area of the station they are on more than the entire station. So, if you get a bit of a bend in your station (which happens as it's turning to align with whatever SAS tells it to align with. It can happen also while just holding a line) then the wheels will turn slightly incorrectly. And in disparate parts of the station other wheels will be turning as well, slightly incorrectly. This causes the control point to swing in an odd way, which causes the wheels to turn in a different - also incorrect and usually slightly larger - way. This can easily become a feedback loop that destroys your station, as you've seen. -

Aaaaah. The Kerbal way! I've given you credit for it, which puts you above me on the list but I'm not changing the list order for 2 reasons: It's a huge pain. Well not huge, but it's a pain. I've a video coming out tomorrow morning which gives me some more unlocks, which will put me back in 3rd place. And while I don't mind going through the pain once, doing it twice to end up at the same spot...
