What screen capture/gameplay recorder do you use?
Superfluous J replied to Kuansenhama's topic in KSP1 Discussion
+1 to OBS. +1000 actually. It's a bit daunting to start but once you get it set up it's a dream. No "I swear this is a game. Please record it." "No" interactions like with other software. *cough*FRAPS*cough* Also, it's actually legit free and open source. For editing, I like VideoPad. It's not free but it's pretty cheap (Like $50 I think) and has a great workflow. Granted, I've been using it so long that I'm used to that workflow, but still. It's great -
[QUESTION] How do I get more money now?
Superfluous J replied to Deoxys_101's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
For your problems with rendezvous (and when you get that down, docking) I have made 3 videos on YouTube that break it down into 3 steps: Rendezvous (getting it so at some point, your ships will pass close to each other) Approach (Getting your two ships side by side and stopped relative to each other) Docking (When a ship loves a space station...) -
[QUESTION] How do I get more money now?
Superfluous J replied to Deoxys_101's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You are butting against something we call the Tyranny of the Rocket Equation in which to get something somewhere you need to lift it. And to lift it you need fuel and boosters. And then you have to lift that fuel, with more fuel and more boosters. Soon you're doubling the size of your rocket and getting about 10 seconds of thrust that barely even makes a difference. First, you need to strip down your upper stage. 4 drills? Try 2, but just for symmetry. Use the small ones. Also you seem to have 4 or 5 Vectors there as well. Those should be Terriers and you should probably only have 2. Not sure what that that RCS tank is for, but I personally would lose it. But I hate RCS fuel If you just do that, I'd not be surprised if you could eliminate EVERY SINGLE white tank and Mammoth engine in the lower stage, and still get to Mun. I'd have to try it, but I wouldn't be surprised. Second, you need to fly efficiently. You should be doing a gravity turn and then burning up to Mun's orbit from LKO at the correct time. Maneuver nodes are your friend. It sounds a bit like you're not using them at all? You can make one, and drag it around your orbit until the orbit line prediction tells you you'll meet Mun. Then just follow that node. Same goes for getting into Mun orbit and even landing. Third, I'd never laugh at a new player. You should see the monstrosities I made 3 years ago. I shudder at the thought. -
It'll get cut right as it's about to take form. All the wasted money will be used as an example as to why NASA is inefficient, and they'll lose funding. Or did you mean what do I want to happen? It'll take people to Mars, of course.

Poll - how many people affected/having fun
Superfluous J replied to p1t1o's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I believe you may be having fun. I'd go with that one. For me, I would also like an option between blissful joy and laptop-throwing ire. I figured I'm having more fun than hate (which is why I'm playing. Part of me wishes it was still the other way around and I could get to some other games on the pile) so went with the current majority. And no, I'm not surprised at the outcome at all, though as always I am skeptical at the usefulness of any poll on a forum. At the most, we can say that about 50% of the people who answered the poll are in my shoes. -
[1.2.1] SimpleConstruction - Stock rocket building v3.3
Superfluous J replied to MatterBeam's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I say offer 2 downloads: If you do not use Interstellar Fuel Switch (If you don't know, use this one!) If you do use Interstellar Fuel Switch Not ideal, but the best I can come up with -
I get this when I drag my mouse cursor off the screen while in map mode. I have a program running that won't let the cursor go between screens unless I'm holding down CTRL (It's called Mousenitor if you're curious) and figured that was causing it. Some combination of holding down ctrl, going to the far right of the screen, and then the mouse no longer being in the KSP window. When I bring the mouse back, it stops. Also, it doesn't happen every time I play, but when it does happen it happens for the entire session. I have no idea if any of this will be any help to you, but maybe it'll jog something.

KSP getting boring? I want to get back into it.
Superfluous J replied to ZedSpace's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Play a different game for a while. Human beings were not made to do the same thing over and over for months on end. Your malaise is not a symptom of KSP needing to be fresh, but of you needing to do something else. -
Especially when a major version of a game engine is implemented into a patch version of a game...

I thought that was 1.1.1? I can't test it now as I can't download several gig over my cell phone. This one I can confirm without downloading a whole bunch of stuff. And confirm it I have

I would probably read this (and watch the movie) but nothing else. The story does not need or even suggest anything even remotely like a direct sequel.

It's very simple. When you mean three, but want the listener to think two, you use "a couple"

troyfawkes gave you the Windows option but if you're on Steam, right click the game, go to Properties, General tab, Set Launch Options, and just put -popupwindow in that little text box. Note: This will work for Steam desktop icons of the game as well, as those icons don't launch the game but instead tell Steam to do it for you. Regarding the original post, I have had a single CTD since upgrading to 1.1.x and it was in 1.1.2, when decoupling SRBs while staging engines on ascent from Kerbin. I would have reported it but I could not repeat it, even with the exact same ship. My VAB has never crashed and I've never crashed due to alt-tabbing away, which I do quite often. However, I use the -nopopupwindow switch and have since about the time I started doing KSP videos (i.e., since 2013)

Is this capable of Eve Ascent?
Superfluous J replied to Diddly Feelerino's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I had this problem as well. Try placing AIRBRAKES at the very top. They don't even need to be in the airflow all the time. Just have them so when the craft starts to tip, they catch the air and nudge it back into place. Here's a post with a ship that shows what I'm talking about:- 21 replies

Should KSP have a Delta-V readout?
Superfluous J replied to bsalis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This right here is where you and I fundamentally disagree. dV numbers are as important to a successful space program as a toaster is to making toast. EDIT: And I'm going to bed right now so won't be able to reply when someone says "You can make toast without a toaster." So let me reply to that one now. That's the point. You can, but it's a huge pain in the thing the filter here will probably turn into "donkey." -
Is Kerbal Space Program possible in real life?
Superfluous J replied to RenegadeRad's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Oh they solved that one, did they? Cool. Wake me up when they can upload my brain into a computer. -
Is Kerbal Space Program possible in real life?
Superfluous J replied to RenegadeRad's topic in Science & Spaceflight
You (OP) mentioned Eeloo, so let me point out that Pluto (Eeloo's RL analog) is 90 years away in a Hohmann transfer. Assuming you could keep them alive for the whole journey, a crew of teenagers would all be centenarian when they got there. In short, RL doesn't have time warp. -
2nd quicksave slot
Superfluous J replied to Lunar Sea's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The only problem with Alt-F5 is that it doesn't work retro-actively. If you've never used it, hitting F5 by accident as you're coming down into an unstoppable crash will still ruin your day and possibly your save. That's why I like Dated Quicksaves, one of Magico13's very useful modlets. -
The Future of KSP
Superfluous J replied to Pthigrivi's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Haha I picked 3 of the options (though could have picked 5 or more easily, I tried to - as you suggested - keep it down to what I consider critical) and those 3 are the top 3 so far. I'm like Ohio. However I vote, so votes the community. FTR I voted for Graphics/Sound overhaul (mostly for clouds but also we should never be able to tell where the pixels were on any surface), Mission planning (mostly for dV and something that shows transfer windows), and Surface Features (because until we have actual reasons to go to the current planets, there is no real need to add more). -
Dynamic KSPedia Pages?
Superfluous J replied to Kerbart's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
To write a KSP page you need Unity. You need to know how to use it, as well. There is a learning curve just to get started, and after that you need to learn how to make the pages. Once you've learned all this, you have learned how to make KSPedia pages and nothing else. To write HTML you need any computer made in the past 50 years. Sure you need to know how HTML works but it's likely you already do or - at the very least - what you learn in the exercise will be useful in many other applications.- 5 replies

Games I'm nostalgic about, eh? Well there was Adventure on the old Atari. That game was amazing, and still is if you can find a playable remake. Several exist out there. Then on the Apple //c I really loved both Elite (The original wireframe. no polygons for me!) and Lode Runner. For IBM Clones (I could also get nostalgic about that phrase) the big winner was Rogue. It was so great it got its own genre, and that genre is so great it got ITS own genre. And it's still among my favorite types of game to this day. When you say "DOS games" I think of 2 big ones: Doom 2 and Carmageddon. Doom was the first game I made levels for (and the first time I played remote multiplayer. Over a MODEM!) and Carmageddon was just amazing fun for hours. Windows games I loved in the past include Stars! (Exclamation mark is part of the name), Unreal Tournament, Grand Theft Auto (Esp. Vice City), and of course Counterstrike. Stars! was my first (and last) love in the 4X genre. UT2K4 is the only game I've bought 3 times for myself (Original, again when I lost the install disc, and again on Steam because it was dirt cheap). GTA was the first game I first pirated and then bought (I've bought all of those except the most recent 2 twice since pirating the original. GTA4 I bought once, and 5 not at all. I'm feeling a bit burned out on that genre. FTR I pirate nothing these days because I understand that if I like the game and don't pay for it, it's one less incentive for people to make those types of games). Counterstrike was nothing less than a phenomenon. Nintendo? I'm so nostalgic for Mario Kart that I still buy the current ones even though they're just remakes of the old tracks. Though the last one I bought was for the original Wii, as I gave up on the whole company when the Wii-U was announced. I also played a LOT of Tony Hawk games on that system. I consider the XBox 360 a bit too "new" to be capable of nostalgia, so will refrain from anything I've played from that point on. Plus, holy cow this post got long.
