[1.0.3] Editor Extensions v2.12 - 23 June
Superfluous J replied to MachXXV's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I've had that problem forever. Never really though of it as a bug though it obviously is one. In my experience, what happens is you're in symmetry mode - say - 5 and your mouse passes over something that was put on in symmetry mode - say - 2. The game changes symmetry mode to 2 but EE still thinks it's 5. So when you hit X or shift-X again, it goes to 4 or 6. I never use alt-x (though I should) so I don't know what it'd do in that case. -
The Positive Forum Movement (Updated 4 December 2015)
Superfluous J replied to Deddly's topic in Kerbal Network
Some people want to be spoken to directly. If you think they're dumb, they want to hear it, preferably in that way. regex (in this thread) implied that he is this way. If regex treats most people the way he wants to be treated himself, then... well... he's already doing that. But many people take offense at his directness. Presumably, he could take offense at more positive ways of speaking, wondering if you think he's stupid by treating him as if he needs handled with kid gloves. That's just 2 very obvious examples of where treating someone how you would want to be treated could go awry. Generally, though, I think as long as you consistently treat people the way you want to be treated, you can at least say "Hey, that's how I treat everybody. I wouldn't have taken offense if you had said that to me" when things go wrong. Of course, you need to mean it -
I don't think he said it was okay, just that that's the kind of thing that attracts "fanboys" because in general, the only reason to cheer for a football (or any sports) team is that their stadium is geographically closer to you than any others'. And the thought that entertainment doesn't benefit Humanity makes me both laugh and wince. I actually find the term "fanboy" annoying. It's so easy to paint anybody with the brush and there is no way to spin it positive. "Oh YEAH I'm a fanboy. I like thing X with no amount of thought what so EVER. Boo-yah. Take that rational person with reasoned arguments!"

I love the limits on creativity, and the creative ways you can overcome the limits. I think this game handles that dance very, very well.

Seeing as you agree that the practice is terrible (and, I presume, that we should be admonishing Squad for partaking in it) I'll happily agree that they aren't the first to do it by a long shot. I'm not sure why it needed specifying, though. The important part isn't that every software company sucks for doing it, it's that Squad is sucking for doing it.

It can, but it'll probably load slowly. Just put your entire ksp_win directory on it, in the root. And enjoy the wonders of drm-free gaming. As far as other things, only you can answer that. Nothing you don't mind losing and nothing you don't mind others seeing (passwords, bank account info, etc).

The problem is, KSC is almost the ideal place. The only thing you could get better would be to have it on a mountain to cut dV. If you make KSC 100%, then most other sites would just be higher percentage. Which isn't a bad thing per se, and would possibly keep you from having to rebalance part costs.

Change Flag on Launchpad From Default?
Superfluous J replied to Landwalker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I believe it's that only the top tier has the correct flag, and it's a bug. Maybe we should ask Claw... -
Burn out on it. Usually it takes a year or three, but you can burn out on the game. And then you'll stop just naturally. ...for about a month or so.
-
This right here is the crux of it. You have 2 choices: 1) 32-bit supported mod, with an annoying workaround to get it to work in 64 bits that if you do it you'd better shut up about any problems you encounter. 2) Nothing. The third option: 3) Everything you want for no work on your part. doesn't exit.

One question is not zero effort. It's small, sure, but it's not zero. and small nonzero effort tends to multiply into large annoying effort when a lot of people put that effort on you. By your reasoning it takes zero effort to realize you're playing the mod on an unsupported platform, and therefore should take zero reasoning skills to realize you should STFU and not bug the modder when he or she specifically said you were doing something unsupported. Things that also take zero effort: Asking for CKAN support on the CKAN thread instead of muddying every modder's thread; and searching a thread instead of posing your question (usually with the acridly ironic, "this thread is way too many pages for me to read it all") that's been asked hundreds of times (all with that same claim).

Dag, the new aero is screwing up EVERYTHING.

Actually having the mass in the front is good for a Cessna for the same reason that the hammer's head ends up hitting the ground first. Your example and mine are actually in agreement, and disagree with your contention that things that have their mass in the rear should not flip around.
-
Go outside right now (or wait until sunrise) with a hammer, and toss it up into the air. Try as hard as you can to make it land on the handle, instead of the head.* Air resistance FORCES the heavier parts of craft to the front, all other things being equal and sometimes in spite of your trying to make them unequal. This was not modeled correctly prior to 1.0 and is modeled (more) correctly now. It's not a bug. It's a fact of life. *And please do so away from anything breakable. Preferably on soft ground too like a lawn instead of a driveway.

I think it's paralleling the "Bring Back The Barn" "movement" from earlier, which also wanted something that was planned but never actually put in the game. The Barn had a bit more info posted about it and looked a lot more likely to make it in the game, but other than that this is similar enough I suppose. I've spoken my piece about this in other threads so won't go into it, but I (like others here) would prefer we had something to do more than somewhere to go. Adding a planet will not keep anybody entertained for more than a couple hours.
-
At 2am in the morning sometimes you need redundancy, but I agree. "97 degree tilt" is more descriptive than "retrograde." The problem is, "retrograde" is easier to say, remember, and (in Venus' case) understand. I personally never think of Uranus rotating retrograde. I think of it rotating "on its side." I've not enough experience cataloging planets' rotations to know where the divide between prograde, uhhh... side... grade... and retrograde are. But I figure maybe just split it into 3's and go 0-60, 60-120, 120-180. Not that anybody in the scientific community is going to reference this thread in a proposal to change anything

That reminds me of the differences in the ore maps between blobs, lines, and dots. No commentary on that. It's just making me think.

Stupid things you noticed too late in a Mission
Superfluous J replied to Leoworm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think my worst was when I sent a rescue lander to Duna and it wasn't until I was slowing down there and decoupling my transfer stage that I noticed I forgot to bring the orbiter and the return stage. Poor thing didn't even have enough fuel to take off again, after using its fuel to make orbit. I had to send a refueler for the rescuer. -
I can't help but imagine this as a superhero.

No hate from me. I hate very little in life, and no video game could reach that level before I just stopped playing it. My biggest peeve though is that the game released (i.e., 1.0 came out) about a year too early. When 1.5 (or whatever) comes out next year sometime, I think right about then I'll consider the game worthy of a 1.0 label. - - - Updated - - - Please show a screenshot of the place in the VAB where you can see contracts you have not yet accepted, so you can compare those words to the words on the pictures in the VAB.
-
Sweet irony that you let the thread die down for a full month before pointing that out.

Stock fairings' mass reduced by 100% in 1.04
Superfluous J replied to Col_Jessep's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Which is why they can sue you for it. I never said if they'd win or not </pedant>
