Somewhere around a decade ago or so my ISP was throttling YouTube TERRIBLY to the point it was unwatchable. I installed a downloader tool on my browser (and exactly which tool has changed over time but I've been using "Easy Youtube Video Downloader" for years now) to download the videos onto my computer. Then I installed and configured Plex so I can watch (and delete) them on any screen in my house (though it's easiest with a Roku). I almost never actually watch videos on YouTube anymore, just download them and watch them later. These days it's not throttled at all but I still do it mostly because of ads. Not that I'm suggesting it. It's a decent amount of work to set up and configure. But that's how much I hate ads

What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)

The best part now is that I don't even need to install them. They just sit in a list that maybe some day I'll do something with. -
What have you been playing recently? (Other than KSP)

I've been playing "Collect free games on the Epic Games Store and then never play them." I've not played games such as Iratus: Lord of the Dead, Ring of Pain, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Submerged: Hidden Depths. I didn't even bother to not play this week's games, Hundred Days and some game that I know to avoid because it has the word Royale in the name. I double didn't play those two as I didn't even get them. I'm a bit excited about both of next week's games. I can't wait to never play Spirit of the North and The Captain. -
KSP2 : Do I have to say what it stands for?

Joking aside, to land on Moho the bare minimum from the DV map is 870, so yes 1000 is probably a good number to go to as @jimmymcgoochie states. If you want to get back off of the ground into orbit, you'll need BARE MINIMUM 870*2 = 1740 m/s before you start your descent, and it's much better to have at least 2000. Note if you're daring you can start to descend before you're under a local TWR of 1 just so long as you are over 1 before you get close to landing. So you could note how much dV you have currently, quick save, burn enough to to get to TWR 1, and then restore from the quick save and plan ahead so you have that much TWR with a few hundred m/s left in your descent. It'll be a harrowing landing but it will be possible with care. I did it on Tylo once. Once. You could also use the rocket equation to do all this but I've never used it myself and don't plan to in the future.

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
Superfluous J replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Because "it's pretty likely this will be in the game" is enough for me. Because the amount they have told us over the course of the time they've told it to us is enough for me. Also, I enjoy the bulk of the conversations I read and/or participate in. Those are pretty much why I hang out in all the places I hang out on the Internet. And even in real life. I find positives in it and those positives outweigh the negatives. Here's some advice for you: Never ever EVER buy something because someone promised you it would have a feature some day. Buy something because you want it enough the way it is NOW to pay for it. You will spend your life far less disappointed.- 1,629 replies

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
Superfluous J replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
To be frank, I don't "expect" KSP2 in that way. I mean, in the way that if they never come out with the game I won't be all "but you PROMISED" about it years later.- 1,629 replies

[New] Space Launch System / Orion Discussion Thread
Superfluous J replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The Horseshoe crab has not had the same negative effect on its own living conditions as humans have. Some would argue that makes it a lesser animal. -
So there was this road leading up to my house. It was pretty short, just a couple hundred feet but it was paved and everything. Then one day my dad told me "Son, we just realized that this stretch of concrete we've always called a road is actually something different. It's a driveway." I was SO mad. I mean, why did my dad hate our stretch of concrete? What did it ever do to him? Just because it didn't stretch across the country or even across town, it was longer than some other roads that were still called roads. He gave all these reasons to ruin the elevated status of our "driveway". It was on our property. No driveways connected to it. It ended at our garage. They all sounded like he was just making up reasons on the spot. To this day I still call it a road. It confuses all of my friends and anybody I give directions to our house, but dang it no one's gonna tarnish MY perceptions of what's right and wrong.

Not by a long shot. I am liking it as well and think it has a shot at being the best stuff in the LotRCU (lol) that Jackson started over 2 decades ago. It's certainly better than anything in the Hobbit trilogy. While Gandalf was my first thought, I don't really think that's reasonable. We'll see, though. I kinda thought it may be Sauron reborn. I mean, some version of him has to get friendly enough with everybody to gift them a bunch of rings, right? Or am I remembering that all wrong? Sauron gave away a bunch of rings of power and everybody was like "oh man that's awesome thanks dude you did us a solid" and then he was like "oh yeah by the way I have the ring that controls all of them and you're so boned now" and they were all like "dude what the what man that sucks" Paraphrased, of course.

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
Superfluous J replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I'm with you that the marketing could be better. I won't go so far as to say it sucks. I'm not with you that it's hurting me at all that they're not releasing more than they're releasing. And I'm not even sure it's hurting them. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's helping them. The biggest mistake they made was telling us too early. They couldn't know in 2019 what was going to happen in 2020 but still it was the biggest mistake.- 1,629 replies

My 2 favorite are: My very first mun landing, in the 0.16 (or 0.18 I don't recall) demo back in 2013. I decided that if I could land and return from the surface of the Mun and still be interested in the game, it was worth the $24 or whatever they were charging. Best $24 I spent, even though it went on sale like 3 days later Landing the asteroid shown in my signature. I spent WEEKS designing and testing each stage of that mission EXCEPT the landing because I wanted to capture that on video without having done it before. No one on the planet was more surprised than I was when, after re-entry and the slowdown wobbling, it just leveled out and flew like a well-crafted glider. Which is exactly what it was not.

I knew there was a thread for this. 6 years ago we would post in it to include new acronyms. I suspect all the important ones are in there but even at 6 years old the thread would still be relevant today. Assuming anyone on the team remembers how to change the list

New KSP 2 Image Posted to Instagram?
Superfluous J replied to Deadmeat24's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Weird I get the image, and a bunch of images, and at the top I've got a LOG IN button and a SIGN UP button indicating I'm not logged in (or in fact even signed up). Who knows. I won't pretend to understand how it works as I'm not even a customer of theirs little alone a representative. But it underscores the importance of KSP, Priviate Division, or Take Two being the owners of the site this stuff is posted on. Too bad they don't have a site already up and running that thousands of their fans visit every single day. -

Would my calling it the "second news" or the "first news" entice someone to post a link to this video? -
New KSP 2 Image Posted to Instagram?
Superfluous J replied to Deadmeat24's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I don't have an Instagram account and when I clicked the link in the OP I saw the image. My turn to not know of one (Great marketing, KSP2 guys) but I don't think I know of this video and there is no new video posted to YouTube (Probably unlisted like all their videos) or a mention in Announcements here on their official forum. -
The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!
Superfluous J replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
I think the lack of Saruman a.k.a. Sharky shaking down the Shire in a pitiful stab at rounding out the Hero's journey was one of the things the movies got exactly right. That and leaving out Tom Bombadil. -
The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!
Superfluous J replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
I can only really go by what's in the show and what others say, as I didn't read enough of it to be able to speak with any authority. In the show, they seem to have come to Middle Earth specifically for the task for stopping this great evil thing of which Sauron was a big part.
