So i generate a flight plan, load it into my sim and load the sim. Update. Fine. I let it update and launch solitaire while i wait. And it plays an AD?!?!?! what!!!! Ads are a cancer. Paying to return to an adfree solitaire? No. I will not be extorted. I just wont play solitaire.

i hate greed. Im not a freaking ferengi.

While they can be annoying, I'd rather deal with ads than pay money. I have passed a lot of time on Candy Crush, and if I can support it (many voluntary ads you don't have to watch) without paying for it, then I feel like less of a leech.

@StrandedonEarth there is a HUGE difference between solitaire (which comes stock with windows and has since windows was a thing or very soon after, so DECADES) and an iphone or android game. Ads in a windows basic program is exceedingly leechy. Ads in a cell phone game is to be expected. It would be the same in my book if suddenly you had ads in your command prompt or in windows explorer or in ms paint or minesweeper or microsoft word or excel or powerpoint. Its gross.

And there we go again. Epic (Unreal Engine) is firing ~900 of their staff.

Apparently, they are in a similar position of Unity Technologies - spent too much without earning enough to pay the bills.

I hope the similarities ends there.

Now, Ubisoft and Blizzard are following suit:

Apparently not as bad as Epic, but still…

Sega is also cancelling games, and laying people off:

We definitively have a situation around here.

Wow.  If this keeps up, everyone will have to use Godot. :)

With so many workforce being fired, I think the best time to get funded and hire experienced people to work on the project is now!;)

This afternoon my nose out of nowhere started gushing blood for 20 minutes. No idea why. Seasonal change I suppose? Point is, I went through 1 box of tissues in 10 minutes, and drenched single sheets red very quickly. I’m fine, but still.

Bleeding for 20 minutes means a somewhat significant artery rupture. It's almost sure due dry weather, but usually the smaller arteries blow up.

In 9.999 between 10.000 cases, it's really only that - ruptured vessels due dryness, but I got "lucky" enough to be one of that remaining one cases - so I got in trouble.

Consider talking to your doctor and check for any anatomic anomalies in your nasal cavities and perhaps cavum. There's that pesky cysts that enjoy embracing arteries, weakening them, and you want to know about them the sooner you can if you are so "lucky" as I was!

i think im done with hack-a-day. it used to be a hub for the free exchange of ideas in the hacker/maker community. over the years ive watched the article quality degrade and seeing the site turn into just another link aggregator where most articles can be summed up by "watch this cool video we found on youtube". then came the waves of censorship where by they silently delete comments they don't like thus ending the free exchange of ideas. the new comment system is the last straw.

sometimes i think another video game bubble would be a good thing in the long run. if you cannot rely on rent an engine it would force game devs to get back into the nitty gritty aspects of game dev that are often glossed over simply because the engine does that for you. the end result is better games. some of the awesomeness you get in the indie sector would bleed off into higher budget games. if this also happens along side an f2p crash, that would be doubly great. gamedevs need to get back to the basics. good thing there are suddenly a large number of engine devs looking for work.

open source solitare exists. i see adds as a security hole. especially when they pop up randomly leading to accidental taps, next thing you know you are on a website selling genital enhancement products running who knows what kind of sketchy code. im fine with add banners so long as they stay put and stay out of the way of the ui elements. a few bad apples...etc. so now its scortched earth, eat pihole ads. if i want something il buy it cash on the barrel.

Picture of the day: a guy, late teens, walking down the sidewalk, hobbled over two takeaway bags from not-McDonalds, desperately trying to shield them from the rain. It's +6⁰C.

Fractured both my pointer and middle finger on my right hand yesterday. Can’t play any sports for a month or two, and can’t use the computer. I also have to learn how to write with my left hand. Right now I’m praying I can keep my grades up, much less how I will function with one less hand.
EDIT:

had to get a splint that covers my entire hand and arm. It’s looking like it’ll be there for the next 4 weeks or so.

I don't know what's happening with this industry, but I'm not liking it.

Thunderbird just forced the update to that crappy SuperNova version - buggy as hell.

Fortunately, this is Open Source - no one can force you to use something if you don't want it.

"users will just have to get to used it. We feel the old way is distracting.".

(Jesus Christ - Thunderbird is over with these guys on the helm…)

Arrogance.

I got off Ubuntu back in 2012 when it "went all Microsoft" and (mostly) enforced its new and radically-different 'Unity' desktop UI.

I had just got everything set up the way I wanted it.  A grand discussion began about how to "opt out" and Canonical had to eat some crow for its unilateral arrogance.

But it was too late for me: I then knew what Canonical was and that it wasn't an "open source" company.

I have been happily on Mint ever since.

(Same thing with Skype, btw: I jealously guarded a pre-Microsoft version installation for years, while I still used it.)

bad time to visit the wailing wall.

anyway i have hincefourth renamed shopping day to eating day. because it has become tradition to delete a weeks worth of snacks within 24 hours of restocking the pantry. now i got heart burn from lunch, indigestion from dinner (we will ignore the hotlinks of questionable origin i had for breakfast before i went shopping), there is a freshly baked apple pie on the stove, and a pound of hamburger i either got to turn into something or throw away because its been thawed out too long. it was meant to be sunday dinner but i opted to sleep instead of cook. im sure it will be ok in tacos if i add enough taco seasoning. that stuff can kill anything. the solution to this problem is to go back to sleep and hope the world explodes before i wake up.

Clouds keep breaking and filling here in my city

Same here. It's incredible how Sao Paulo's skies have this ability to get clouded on WeekEnds and special events - while being usually clear at working days at this time of the year. Yeah, good weather on working days, rainy on weekends. Marvellous. :P

I'm not even mad, because I was pretty convinced this would happen so I didn't bored to prepare for this event.

Oh well… People on Youtube will surely broadcast it. I will watch them under a blanket and a nice cup of tea on my hands.
